| Like a hgame without the sex... yet. by drunkguy on September 15th, 2009, 7:11pm |
|
I've always wondered if Fumizuki Kou writes for eroges. Ai Yori Aoshi always struck me as an hgame or visual novel series turned into a manga. (Lots of random nakedness, a few parts that could have become sex scenes, etc.) Umi no Misaki feels like a single less dramatic slower paced hgame.
The guy pops into an isolated island and learns to live with the local customs. He gets wrapped up in it and starts having relations with three local girls all looking to hook up with him. The main draw is that the story largely deals with him adapting to life on the island. The main turn off is that the character isn't likely to decisively pick a girl any time soon (i.e. standard harem problem). Since the focus of the story has more to do with the former than the latter, it has been a rather easy going and enjoyable read. When it does go into the choosing period, I imagine the story will become one hell of a lot more dramatic/agitating.

| Don't let first volume fool you by topboy on July 30th, 2009, 8:32am |

I second serogane comment. First volume art is great, story is rock and character acts cool. But after that this great setup turn into
Spoiler (highlight to view) 3 girls fight to laid on main guy No need another sub characters just only need 4 characters. Not have even one rival (in love) for main guy,he can always take what he want. And did u sure that heroine is maiden ? (look for them acts, guess not) Chapter after chapter flirt flirt kiss kiss chat chat and attempt to score and repeat the process. Less plot than to love ru and don't teach you anything, just only harem+ fan service

| Great series by Anabiotic_Pineapple on July 29th, 2009, 10:53pm |

| I really like Ai Yori by this author, and Umi no Misaki delivers as well. The relationships develop at a fast pace and it feels like he could end up with any one of the girls, although if it follows the rules of most harem manga, it'll probably be the first chick he met when he came to the island. Expect laughs, bitter tears (from yourself), and drama that isn't over the top by any means while reading this. Even though the premise seems a bit odd, the way it's executed is brilliant. |

| Stupid grin indeed by serogane on June 23rd, 2009, 3:39pm |
|
(After reading volume 1)
I also think that the setup for this harem series is absolutely ridiculous, but I also can't get this stupid grin off my face.
It's really one of those situations where you can't help but laugh.
The main character is likable though since he always knows what to say.
(after ch 49)
...I recommend those curious stop after volume 1. It goes downhill pretty fast after volume 2.
Spoiler (highlight to view) once you get past that loopy opening the story is reduced to the three girls fighting to get into the main character's pants. It's really not as good as it sounds.

| A refreshing take on an overused genre. by monkeyvoodoo on May 27th, 2009, 12:38am |
|
I can't put this title down, and reading it sticks me with this permanent goofy grin, which makes me feel really stupid. Giggling like a little girl and grinning like an idiot simply cannot be healthy for a guy my age.
Uncomfortable reading experiences aside, UnM is so much fun. It makes me feel a little stupid, ranting so glowingly over a harem manga. But for what it lacks in uniqueness of genre, it certainly makes up for in every other aspect.
It may feature four of the major female character archetypes, but it doesn't take long to realize that while they may be somewhat cliché, they're all actually quite interesting and lovable. Though it's quite obviously a harem-style story, that's not immediately obvious to the uninformed, and the back story is quite elaborately set up. The experience never feels like a cheap excuse to get girls flocking to a guy, like most harem stories do. Even the pantsu, oppai, kissing, blushing, and general non-stop fan service somehow don't seem like cheap ratings-oriented inserts. The artwork in every single chapter is absolutely gorgeous. The story is actually pretty deep and explores themes like, fate and destiny, purpose, responsibility, indoctrination, self-discovery, culture, love and friendship.
I can't find any way to say anything negative about this title - even it's generic/clichéd aspects go far above and beyond the expected. If you're not already reading this title, here's a piece of advice for you: stop whatever you're doing, right now, and go read this.

| It's ok. by Unrequited on April 19th, 2009, 3:43pm |
|
It started a bit slow, and the male lead is ok I guess. He was overly-dramatic when confronting the girls' problems/attitudes in the beginning imo. Arbitrarily denying the ancient customs of an island because "It' just not right." Anyway, the situation was handled poorly imo. But of course, they respond to his lame defiance. I'm not a big fan of the *knight in shinig armor* thing I guess. Anyway after the girls warmed up, he seemed more tolerable.
One of the better things about this manga is that the lead pays attention to all the girls. Ai Yori Aoshi might as well have not been a harem because the other girls didn't even seem matter. Anyway, development is more proportionate or equal.
Because of this, the moment I start to prefer one girl, the next chapter(s) make(s) me like another. It's balanced well and now I'm hoping for a harem or open ending. Kinda tired of getting multiple, likable, and lovable characters only to have them left to the side in the end.
Anyway, check it out for yourself.

| Sweet! by 2wcp on January 7th, 2009, 4:33pm |

This is gotta be one of the best romance manga ever. The characters are great, the story is, well, makes sense and the best thing about the manga is that, many of the scenes involving hero and any one of the heroine are romantic sweetness! Very recommended.

| This is a great manga, really enjoyable and fun to read.. Fumizuki Kou sensei is truly a masterful story teller and his art even tought it needs some getting used to, I consider to be quite unique and expressive. I hope to see more of this manga and can't wait to for the next chapter and see how this story develops. I highly reccomend it and also his previous work Ai Yori Aoishi. |

I really like the story for this one, as unbelievable as all these harem mangas end up being.. because of the setting/character Umi No Misaki comes across quite real and its fun to read! Art quality varies though, it looks amazing for most part but some times the facial expressions are just weird. |

| all i have to say is that i like they way the story is told. its a harem so we know that we are in stored for some laughs and some peverted moments. THe thing is, i hope that when it is time to end the series that the author does not rish it. that is exactly how i felt with Ai yori aoshi. |
