From Manga-Sketchbook:

Young Ko is about to learn a new hobby...

Ko Higaonna, sharing a moment with his not-quite-girlfriend Satomi, is disturbed to discover a sallow-faced man watching with infrared goggles from the darkness. Ko's sense of privacy is offended, and soon blood is spilled, and the goggles pass into new hands. But the Voyeur remains, and now Ko is his pupil, about to discover what goes on beneath the smiles on people's faces... What goes on in private, in the dark...?

For years I dismissed this because I thought it'd be twisted and disgusting, but as I grew older the idea of "professional voyeurism" became intriguing enough to push me to read. I'm quite happy with my choice, as the concept was unique and the execution quite amusing.

Oddly enough, the unrepentant social deviant Takuro - the protagonist's 'mentor' and eventual partner-in-crime - slowly grew on me due to his unusual life philosophy, talents worthy of an Interpol spy, and calm, surprisingly mature demeanour. (Though I guess his utter lack of arousal at seeing anyone naked/in sexual situations, watching it all with detached academic interest that spoke to the psychologist in me, played a big part in that). The protagonist, Ko, on the other hand, was your typical hot-blooded 20-something guy -- not particularly skilful or appealing in any way. Still, he did provide a good foil for the stoically composed Takuro, and brought with him the 'emotional,' 'man-on-the-street' facet of the plot.

It's a shame Shin Nozokiya was never scanlated to completion; I'd have loved to see how the mangaka takes this weird "occupation" to new heights.

At least the first part/chapter (it's divided in two) was a really great one that gave me access to a few different emotions. The second was a more standard take on a "PI with a twist"-manga.

This manga was very interesting in the way it did what it did. Gives you a slightly different look at voyeurism. A more proffesional look so to speak.

Creative. I just wish that this had went longer instead of moving on too voyeurs inc.
