Actually has more depth than I expected

Aside from the rushed ending this manga was actually pretty well-rounded especially in its nuanced approach to dealing with adolescent boys' temperament and psychology and all that jazz while still managing to maintain a fairly believable romantic atmosphere. I suppose the author had to wrap it up quickly to fit the space limit allowed for a tankoubon, but since there's a sequel to follow I'm not too bothered by the ending's abruptness. Hope this couple will get a proper conclusion there.

Mixed feelings on this one...

I didn't have particularly high expectations for this manga, and Keigo's hairstyle somehow didn't help any, haha!

BUT, I was actually quite pleasantly surprised! There were some really very good "oh the feels" moments.

BUT (again) the actual wrap-up of the story seemed rushed and insufficient. So my rating went from an expectation of a 6, to a potential 8.5 or 9, back down to a 7. Womp womp.

Art better than the cover

Again, I just needed to say this. I've been fooled so many times by the cover up there, you wouldn't believe. So, that much is certain: the real thing is much better. As for the story, I liked it a lot. The pace was right, the characters are endearing and funny and fresh; there's no overload of stupid comedy and the romance-ridden anguish is quite well placed. An entertaining piece on love and coming to terms with one's own feelings, I guess. I wouldn't mind a kiss or two -- c'mon, you're allowed to kiss in shonen-ai, ahah. But it was still quite satisfying. Their feelings seemed and felt real, that's all that matters smile

This was really sweet! It's one of my favorite in this specific genre so far (and you know there are *so* many friends-fall-in-love school life stories), because of how real it felt. It wasn't a case of the second boy deciding to give it a shot within minutes or days, rather the changes in Keigo and Chihiro's relationship were gradual and even kind of subtle, as Chihiro grows more comfortable with knowing that Keigo is in love with him, and then once that happens, as his own fondness for Keigo develops into something more like love.

One very small thing that happens in this story, which I haven't seen very much at all (if ever?) in BL is one of the minor characters is a lesbian. But it's a quiet sort of thing, the same way as the rest of the story, without anymore attention drawn to it than is required for the plot. It felt natural and right, like all the other parts.

(FWIW, my ratings appear to skew lower than others', because I don't like to give 10s to everything I like and prefer to save them for the really outstanding "I would use my rent money to buy this" books. This story might have received an 8 from me if the art style were more original, or if the story itself had more impact instead of being low key, but a 7 from me is quite good nonetheless.)

So, I was expecting to dislike it from the very beginning. I didn't like the art on the cover, the story didn't catch my attention, it started in a way I didn't really care...so the only reason I kept going was because where I found stuff about this manga, it said it had some angst (which I adore).

I was totally wrong.
Not only this one was great, the story surprised me a lot.
Although it is the common "childhood friend turns to lover" kind of plot, the way it is developed isn't what you would expect and it's not without a lot of suffering that they get together.
It wasn't as fluffy as to give you a sick feeling, it had just the right amount of cuteness and some hurtful moments.

The art also gets better as chapters go on, and once you get used to it, you start thinking it is cute.

I was in need of something sweet and pure, since I've just read Minami Haruka-sensei. So I think the fact it was shonen-ai actually helped out a lot.

Although I missed a deep kiss or a proper "I love you" from Chihiro, that's what the sequel is for (although I've only seen the raws) - but don't expect much more than kissing.

Keigo was a character that grew in my heart. At first, he was just a crybaby (which Itotally hate on semes) with a kind personality. But he turned out to be jealous as anyone else, perv and everything else you would like. Just like a person in the real world.

I can only say that my heart was racing along with the characters' (especially when I though, every time, that theey'd finally get together)

Not Out of the Ordinary, But Still Cute and Enjoyable

I found Harete Bokutachi wa because I was looking to indulge in BL (like most of you). So for all you horny walruses out there...

- It's not smutty. Shounen-ai is correct. Though at the same time of course it isn't squeamish like some shoujo manga out there.
- In my opinion the drawing style is really cute. It's somewhat better than the cover art shown here.
- It's a better than average BL manga. It has a story that ties it all together. Plus Chihiro has a personality that is just so....ravishable. buhahahaha By the end you really want to see the two be together.

So I guess because it's a bit slice-of-lifey there's not instant sexing. But that's ok, it's still really fun. If you really have to have the hot n' heavy, go read stuff by minami haruka.
