Annoying but has some good parts by cswave on August 4th, 2009, 12:20am

Honestly, if you can stand it after volume 3 then you should be able to read the series. The first few volumes...are...how to say this...insanely annoying. I don't recall ever bring this pissed off at a manga. Momo is dense and extremely gullible for the firt few volumes, she gets better later though. And her rival is a total "female-dog"...nothing good about her at all.

Worst Heroine ever by topboy on June 28th, 2009, 9:43pm

If you wanna know who is the worst heroine ever in shoujo manga, here she is. "MoMo" remember her name. People said she is indecisive ,NO, she isn't. She just can't think anything at all. I wanna know how much of her IQ maybe less than 40IQ. I'm glad for toji that he can finished escape from this hell but feel sadly for poor kairi ,he is in deepest level of hell.

Wow, I can't believe I liked this before. by Jeli on May 4th, 2009, 10:56pm

I read this about a year ago, and actually liked it. But now, I really hate it.
Spoiler (highlight to view) The story was a cliche, and at the end she turned into a real slut. Like what the hell. She finally ends up with Kiley in the end... after Toji was about to rape her.
All the characters are annoying. I guess it was good of me to have thought that this book was about a slut when I picked it up.
Sae is the most annoying. I mean, at one point, all the guys would have heard rumors of how she REALLY acted from another girl.

This one stupid manga. Momo is annoying and so are the people around her. The scenes are all so cliched and superficial. It drags on and it just irks me so much. Stay away from this.

It seems that some people on here don't know the difference between well-written drama, and unconvincing, horribly written drama. Peach Girl is the latter by a mile.
I'm not gonna put up a long rant about it because every one of the negative comments has already done the work for me. If you want to read well-written drama, then Bitter Virgin has it in spades.

Needy, annoying by Dragonfiremule on February 16th, 2009, 1:06am

I must say, Momo is the most NEEDY, BITCHY, and indecisive main female lead I've found in shojo thus far. I mean, there are the normal, idiotic, stupid, can't make up-my-mind shojo girls, but this is just ridiculous! I mean, she is just so needy... UGGGH. Its disgusting!
The story itself just seems to be repeating itself over and over, only with different characters. Also, I dislike how Momo drops the male leads, forgets about them completely, leave them to be slaves, and then comes running back to them when she gets dumped.
Sae is idiot and plain stupid. She is no doubt the worst villian ever, on top of all that. She is as needy as momo, but even stupider and more annoying.

Great Romantic Epic! by deelink on February 8th, 2009, 5:52am

I really recommend this manga to anyone who wants to read an interesting psychological romance, where yourself as a reader, really reacts to what is happening to the heroine, whether it is cheering her on, or crying with her. Or even wanting to slap her! And the best thing is, one can really feel that about all of the characters, even though most people would want to poke Sae's eyes out. It's fun to feel like that about characters, because then you know the author has a real talent for making the characters seem alive. It IS typical, but it's FUN. And people should understand it's a girl comic, and take Momo's naivety and insecurities all within context.
To the person who said Momo should have been raped, if you are a female, I really feel sorry for you and your existence, and if you are a guy, I hope one day you understand that joking about it is tasteless, and perhaps next time try envisioning one of your own female relatives being raped. I just hate offhanded comments like that, obviously wanting attention through shock, it's just so depressing to witness. At least READ the manga before making a comment.
10/10! Ueda is one of my favourite mangakas!

Shoujo at its finest by PansyWansyLinsy on February 7th, 2009, 7:59pm

Peach Girl is like the mother of all shoujos. It runs the gamut with just about every popular shoujo device – from catfights to love triangles, from petty school bullying to the typical relationship melodrama – Peach Girl has it all. For those looking for an unconventional shoujo, I advise you look elsewhere because in Peach Girl, Miwa Ueda takes us through the relationship woes of our bronze, misunderstood beauty with the flare and drama typical of your regular shoujo. However routine Peach Girl may seem on the surface, I still found it to be an enthralling read (especially the drama).
I see a lot of complaints about the wishy-washy nature of the main character, Momo, but I think fans need to look at it with some perspective. Love triangles are tricky animals. There are usually two variations of love triangles - the ones thrown into the story for the sake of creating drama, and then there are the serious ones that run through the entirety of the manga. Not a fan of the former (does anyone think that perhaps all the hate for the love triangle probably stems from its blatant overuse in shoujo?), but a big fan of the latter.
A lot of the complaints about Momo's indecisiveness are overblown. Whatever guy Momo happened to be dating at the time, she was devoutly loyal to him during their relationship. She may have had a few bouts of regret or what if moments, but she never strays. It’s not until we get into the final story arc in the last 3 or 4 volumes that we see a lot of Momo’s insecurities with both guys come to a head.
I think it’s naïve to believe that it’s impossible for an individual to care for more than one person in their life, and if Peach Girl did anything else, it was to showcase this possibility. Momo’s indecisiveness was realistic; she cared for both guys, and both loved her. Nothing in life is so straightforward as shoujos would have you believe - especially when it comes to love - and Peach Girl does a good job showing us that.
With all that being said, I was sad to see the end of Peach Girl. At 18 volumes long, it’s probably one of the longer shoujos I’ve read, but I enjoyed each and every chapter. I look forward to reading Miwa Ueda’s other works!
ETA: I also wanted to add that I'm glad Momo picked who she did at the end. Life is also about moving on, and in doing so, Momo was able to really find her best love.
