Love It! by dezin19 on July 6th, 2009, 9:20pm

This really is a great manga. Sports manga can get a little boring, especially if you're not into that kinda stuff, but this one is different. The characters really keep you going strong. Mihashi is really unique (haven't seen his type in a manga before lol) and his relationship with Abe is funny to watch. The other characters are great too, and really grow on you. I also loved the details about baseball. It's taught me a lot! (now I can listen to a baseball commentator and know what he's talking about ><) Also, Higuchi-sensei really knows how to keep the suspense going, so you'll never get bored and ditch the manga; you'll always want to know what's going to happen next!

Long story short; give it a shot. Whether you grow to love it or not, it won't be a waste of your time to check it out.

Great by pichie on April 26th, 2009, 12:02pm

I am absolutely hooked. I am a fan of baseball mangas, and I say, if you are one, you can NOT miss out on this one. And even if you are not as much of a sports or baseball fan, I'm pretty sure you'll still learn to appreciate this masterpiece!

A definite good read. I am very much looking forward on how the series progresses. I find all the characters likeable. And quite honestly, I am a bit surprised the mangaka is a woman. Haha! Probably why the team's coach is a woman.

Like it by slm on February 21st, 2009, 3:31pm

OF is the only sports manga I can stand ;] It doesn't bore me to death (like your avarage sports manga), all baseball unrelated scenes (well, there is just about 7 of them, short as... as... oargh, short) are well-thought, they tenses readers down.

However the shounen-ai based jokes - catcher Abe (seme personalized, catcher is also synonim of uke) and pitcher Ren (if he were, he would be uke. pitcher=seme), "I like you" etc, are sometimes a bit irritaiting (I've said it with a smirk wink )

Why is OF categorized as seinen anyway?

so good by waftingwish on February 4th, 2009, 6:18pm

I'm not a huge baseball fan irl but this story has me hooked. I love reading about all the characters and seeing them grow as a team.
The artwork is not amazing but I really like how the mangaka managed to give each person a unique look, especially since there are so many characters. Overall it's fun to read and I find myself getting caught up in all the ups and downs that the team goes through.

baseball by whindel_21 on October 14th, 2008, 11:04am

I really really like Abe-kun >_< Mihashi most of the times is very annoying, but he is very persistent so that makes up for it. The characters are all likable and they are also funny. Recommended sports manga. I haven't seen its anime though...

I got hooked o.o by Tomoko on October 10th, 2008, 5:35am

Ok so, I came to love baseball when my teacher and the class I was in tried playing it. Actually, we just went for a soft ball coz we didn't have any baseball field or something at school. We only used the rooftop. XD Anyway, so there, I loved baseball. Then, I watched the "Major" in HERO tv. I became addicted to it. Then, when I was browsing the new animes in animax, I was shocked to see Big Windup! Then, I tried watching it. In no time, I'm so hooked xD

Best sports manga ever! by planet12 on September 23rd, 2008, 11:36pm

I agree with jamievalero that Ofuri is the best, addictive sports manga this time around. I've never been a fan of sports manga myself since I thought most of the stories are cliched. But Ofuri just blew me away for some reason. Must have been the characters and the plot I suppose. One thing I like about this manga is how the mangaka manage to explain in detail about baseball to the readers.
.

I'll give this one a 10/10 rating for being excellent. smile Can't believe I used to hate this manga when I first I read it.... Well, I changed my mind for the better.

Best high school sports manga around... by jamievalero on September 21st, 2008, 5:11am

Being a sports fan myself, I find the technical aspects of their training very interesting. How they grow as budding athletes is fascinating for me -- developing their individual talent together and becoming very good team players as a result.

The emotional element comes from the team efforts to support Mihashi, the most immature player in the team. I find his whiny nature somewhat irritating, but it's counterbalanced by his perseverance to work and better himself. A lot of panels are devoted to Mihashi because of how needy Mihashi is emotionally, and the willingness of the other players (esp. Abe) to invest themselves to his individual growth is a vital element in the story.

This is not to say that the other characters are underdeveloped. All the characters, even the opposing teams, are given enough space time in the manga so that the reader can get to know them better.

Overall, I think this is a really great manga, it makes me think a lot about the characters and what is happening to them both as developing athletes and as growing kids. And when a manga like this makes me involved this much as a reader, I know that what I'm reading is something really special. This is manga is definitely a perfect 10 in my opinion.
