liked the music theme.....

This one had a music theme which I liked. For the most part I really enjoy this mangaka's work. Her art is always nice. It has a softness to it that I find refreshing. There was no deep plot here. It centered around a student who wanted to get into a music school and the teacher who helped him. They end up spending time living together because of the student's mother who is apparently a real piece of work. I do have to agree with a previous poster about the student, Tanaka, being a major whiner and crybaby. Too much for my liking. Other than that though, the story was cute and simple. A nice light read. A story doesn't have to have a major plot to be enjoyable, especially when it's more like a "slice of life" type story. And it is a oneshot........

Yoshinaga Fumi is considered one of the best storytellers in the genre, and most of the time rightfully so, but this work strikes a bad chord. The characters are thoroughly unlikeable, especially Tanaka, the big, brawny, junior-high "rebel" who dresses like a delinquent and has been drinking since he was around five but had no idea what sex was until he was sort-of raped by his teacher and is the wimpiest, girliest, most irritatingly whiny uke to ever grace the pages of June. I would criticize the plot, too, if there were any plot present to criticize.

Seriously, after Gerard and Jacques and Antique Bakery, I'm disappointed.

its rather good actually, considering the time the art was well drawn enough but for me the real knocker to what made me like this is the story. i've read a lot of yaoi and shonen-ai but i still like this comparatively to some of the others simply because it applied and attached itself to my inner romancist.

I'm in love with all of Yoshinaga's works, and this is no exception. I will say there were a couple problems with characterization (like how Tanaka, with a mother who brings home men and even drinks with him, could be so naive about sex), but her characters are still cute together, and her art is so expressive. I'm always impressed how just a tiny change in expression from panel to panel, so small it's barely noticeable, can portray so much emotion. I wanted more of Tanaka and Kugayama in the end (did they get together?!), but Yoshinaga-sensei always focuses on story first, and that's what makes her such a great writer.

There are a handful of mangas that i feel like they are classics which as a yaoi fan you must read and this is one of them. The art is good, particularly for the time and the story is quite interesting.
