not worth it

I was highly disappointed in this one, and it was not worth the money I spent on it. You don't expect a lot of storyline from a collection of shorts like this, but most of the stories here were lame, stupid, boring. There were a couple of good stories in this, which is why I gave it a 6. And I agree with other posters who said there were too many animal boys. I would never reccomend this one to anyone for buying.

Waste of Money

Total waste of money. Honestly, I really don't like saying this stuff about yaoi because I am a huge fan, but this anthology is a waste of your money.
There are a few good oneshots to be read, but for the most part, it's filled with extras from different series. I don't believe in wasting my money only to get the extra at the end of a story. It's really a pity they blundered it like they did.

I enjoyed this book. As said a great read for new Yaoi fans. But the first half was much better. Then the second. A good read, but not a great buy.

Not a Comprehensive Introduction to Yaoi, But Don't Miss It!

The back of the English licensed book says, 'J-BOY is a great introduction for new yaoi readers and a delicious treat for long-time fans.' Scratch the former and keep the later, and the marketing team can continue to get their paycheck.
There are far too many animal personification stories in this collection for it to be a 'great introduction' to yaoi. And most of the stories are light-hearted and silly. My favourites were the ones that held an element of seriousness to them. I enjoy a ridiculous yaoi from time to time, but if this was my first introduction to yaoi, it would be mortifying to even consider the genius experiences I have had that i would have completely miss out on if I made any decisions based on this anthology. I shudder at the thought of lost passions due to unfortunate first impressions. But the variety, although not awesome, is passable.
The darker, more twisted or deeper psyche genres were completely amiss: Nobody came close to the styles of either story or art of Saika Kunieda, Mika Sadahiro, Shin Mizukami, Rieko Yoshihara or even any of the classics like the serious and thought-provoking, discussion-inducing Year 24 masters. Where were they? What about someone who touches base with both sides, like Hinako Takanaga? She would have been at least a slightly milder introduction to include.
I'm glad that at least #4 and #5 and Naduki-sensei were included, or it'd be a total write off as far as a comprehensive introduction.
The humourous side of yaoi was well covered. Perhaps some of the decision makers in the publishing company are still stuck in the pigeon-holed original late 70s/early 80s concept of Yaoi being only shocking and laughable pairings of canon straight characters, largely played out in the doujinshi world.
I think this is more of a volume for the already adept in the BL world. Like a 'filler' for when you only have a few minutes to read and would like to read a quickie and potentially discovering an artist or story weaver that you enjoy.
Worth the time and purchase all things considered, though.

Some really wonderful stories here

This one is really worth buying. There are 19 oneshots in this volume. A few are reprints of oneshots that appear in other manga (Thief x Thief from Clan of the Nakagamis appears here)so that's a little disappointing, and some are side stories for other manga like Kurashina Sensei's Passion and Our Kingdom. However, these are still enjoyable.

The ones that really stand out are those in the first half of the book as the other reviewer mentions. There's the very funny and sexy "Indecent Encounter" by Haruka Minami to start things off, but my favorite of the bunch has to be "The Pale and Wavering Sketch" by Waga Sagami. This is such a sweet, funny, romantic story. I highly recommend this compilation of stories.

I enjoyed the first half of the book, knowing than an anthology wasn't going to have many developed stories. But even accepting that fact didn't help me with the second half of the book, which was filled with more humour and animal!boys than actual plot. However, I must say, the first story almost made up for the cost of the book. I certainly don't regret buying it, if only for the first half.
