I finished it..

Even though I can see how it's going to pan out from the start...Huhh

Spoiler (mouse over to view)
When GLOR//ON start appearing, I can see where it's going...and unfortunately, it does go in the direction I predicted. When she start accepting ON 'suddenly'...I have been thinking "Ah...He is going to die, and he did". Maybe this is just the result of reading too much manga. Even the end/epilogue is so generic, whyy..

These (Cipher Hajime-chan ga Ichiban! ) are some of the mangas that helped me predicted all the cliche plot, there are enjoyable parts to them, don't be mistaken..read them if you want some more that is similar in vibes but different story altogether..

A tad dramatic, but pretty good nonetheless

GOD this manga is good. I started about 7 hours ago, and thought I would stop in the afternoon, but I continued until bedtime. I just had to keep reading!!! The romance in this manga is mostly bittersweet, but the angst isn't so overwhelming that I would want to slam the computer down a trashcan. Thankfully.

PLOT OF MANGA -- 7.5/10
Whatever you do, guys, don't read those spoilers. The spoilers really gave away the climax of the whole series. Well, I read the spoilers and still really enjoyed the manga and ending, but if I hadn't read them, I would've been more affected by the author's twists and stuff.

The overall plot is pretty predictable from the beginning. A girl has an angelic voice while singing on a snowy day, and a popular singer happens to pass by and hear her sweet tunes. And yup she's got her career set for life--singer. Anyways, I don't want to spoil anything else, but let me just say that the angst/troubles surrounding music industry was mostly glossed over. Instead, the story focused more on the characters' relationships, friendships, and etc.

Unfortunately, there were some scenes and drama here and there that weren't necessary to the main plot at all. Like, what's the deal with Ashley/wutever and her nonstop involvement with On? If her background had been expanded a bit more, it would've been acceptable. But she was one dimensional.

CHARACTER DEPTH IN MANGA -- 6/10
I didn't really like Mayu, but she didn't really bother me, and I came to like her more by the end of the series..... The story centered specifically on Mayu, the main girl, and her relationships with those she comes in contact with (mostly potential love interests). She is very sensitive to others' reactions and feelings, and can be heavily affected by their moods. In fact, the characters in the manga even criticized her directly for being so sensitive. So, we just gotta accept it as is. She's a sensitive girl.

I came to like her for her determination. Despite her easily influenced mentality, she never gives up and has people who cherish her and wish for her success. I came to really like the advice given by the "side characters."

My favorite characters are: Yuya, Touga, Kei, the photographer woman, and On.

The one thing I dislike the most is the lack of development among the side characters and male leads. Actually, I'm really disappointed the author didn't further feature my favorite characters....or any other character for that matter. Sure, the love interests were given history and some personality, but we only see those traits when a necessity for teenage angst comes along. Also, we don't see how these people act in normal, daily situations.

And as for the side-characters? They were barely remembered...and I forgot all of them by the end of the series even though I read everything in one day.

RELATIONSHIPS IN MANGA -- 10/10
On a brighter note, the dynamic relationships were my favorites throughout the manga. There were quite a few potential love interests, and they all had a somewhat REASONABLE cause for finding Mayu attractive. Three of them had especially nice bonds with her, and I would've had to guess throughout the manga for the love interest if I hadn't read the spoiler alerts.

Overall, this manga didn't break any grounds or make me understand more about life. It wasn't registered in my brain as something to remember forever (such as Skip Beat, One Piece, and etc) but I definitely found it entertaining.

So, give it a try. You might love it more than I did.

This manga is... special. Which is to say, it's unique. That is, it's unpredictable (mostly. Anyone can see that Mayu's going to be famous from the first three chapters), because the mangaka just sort of does whatever she wants with the characters, screw the consequences.

On the one hand, that actually does work out very well for her. This is a riveting story - I read it all the way through. It has all the implausibilities and the partings and the moving-on's of real life. On the other hand... I never really did entirely like any of the main characters. Especially On. I never did care much for On.

Also, poor Tougo... ending up with his wholesome image destroyed.

I went into this totally unprepared. Usually I read reviews, but not this time. It has the apperance of a love triangle story, but I felt that there was actually only one person that really really loved her.
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Too bad that person dies horribly in a later chapter... I literally cried buckets.

Cookies for not making me drop it. It definitely could hold my interest. It's pretty much a show biz drama with all the clichees, but still very enjoyable.

Prepare tissues though!

Potential trashed.

This manga isn't particularly special in any way. The plot, characters, art - everything was so-so. Nothing impressive at all so I didn't expect much from it. However, I did hope it wouldn't make me want to throw it out of the window. Everything just became much much weaker towards the end. It was as if Makimura didn't even think twice about what she was writing and that spoiled the entire journey for me. It was never great to begin with but it was at least somewhat satisfying and had potential. It's a shame that got trashed.

I really liked this. I feel like it was a really great journey, and I think you can feel the passion the characters have for music. The character development as a whole is really great. I thought it would focus more on the music, but it ended up being really character-driven, which was great; you see many of the characters develop and go through a lot of difficulties. For me, On was the highlight. I think some people will always dislike him because his loyalties are always in doubt, but that's the reason his character stands out. He is tremendously conflicted and one of the best things about the whole manga - he has a massive influence on the plot and other characters. Without a doubt this brought the manga to a whole other level for me. (By the way, what's in the spoiler tags spoils pretty much the whole story, so don't read unless you're sure you won't regret it!)

Spoiler (highlight to view)
I really, really loved the parts where On and Mayu are together. You felt like he was being consumed by darkness and Mayu is the only thing he's got even though he's fighting it and how much he loves her. They are violently, irresistably thrown together, and there are so many things going on and so many conflicting loyalties, and all the while On is tremendously torn. That's the brilliance of it. All the other characters think it's a bad idea for her to pick him, and some people might think it was only out of pity, but there was something tremendously valiant about the way Mayu sought to help On. Because of how much I loved his character, I was quite annoyed that he died, because it felt a bit like the author killed him off only because she wanted Mayu and Yuuya to be together at the end. However, in the end, I did accept it. It was probably the best way things could have ended and I probably would have hated a happy ending - in the end, On's sacrifice proved that he triumphed over his darkness, and it was another thing that made the manga even deeper. The resulting angst wank was suprisingly heartrending and managed to bring me to tears.

It's been a while since I cried because of a manga and I was quite surprised it managed to evoke that much of a response for me. I think that shows how much you can get attached to the characters and the story. I think it did work out okay in the end despite my doubts and I quite liked the ending. Like bkmstr I wasn't too sure about the extra at the end...

Spoiler (highlight to view)
Mio (Yuuya and Mayu's child) and Tougo?! Isn't that a bit creepy?! What's the age gap, I wonder?

But, to sum up all my feelings, I think this is a great shoujo. It's not all about the romance, but the romance, where it does strike, is wonderful. I think the manga really hits its stride about halfway through and I definitely recommend it to shoujo fans.

I loved this manga and loved how Mayu tries her best to be with Yuuya, but certain events toward the end felt odd and the ending somehow felt artificial. The extra was ok, though it ruined another wholesome character's image.
