Abusive relationship
by ElanorR

There is literally no point to this useless drama...something that shouldve been resolved in 4 volumes has taken so may,...Whats disgusting is how door-matish Kazumi is, and Ena is just an asshole who deserves to be in jail. Really, there is no moral to be leanred or objective here. Just people making stupid ass decisions and not using brain cells. Pointless drama. NO ROMANCE.

Thanks for the spoilers. I won't continue reading.

I finished 5 chapters and had serious doubts about the story. Then, after reading @darkline81's summary, my suspicions that this manga sucked got confirmed. @hotarusasaki's review is spot-on too.

My interpretation is that this manga is way too messed up and it's UNHEALTHY to read -- the situations and the characters are all way too unreal, in a bad way. Please, if you know what's good for you, don't read this. It's this type of stuff that makes people think things like this is normal and is okay. I don't think girls in Japan are like this at all. @SteReo_R says this is Slice of Life and etc., which I can understand as things like this *could* possibly happen, but NO, I can't accept this manga.

I wish I could explain better but honestly, PLEASE DON'T READ THIS.

My 4 star rating is because I honour the mangaka's effort and the art. Otherwise, I think the storyline, characters, and overall portrayal is rubbish.

Late review to correct some misunderstandings
by darkline81

This is much later than other comments, but I feel I should make it anyways to prevent misunderstandings for those reading spoilers from other reviews. Most importantly,

Spoiler (mouse over to view)

For clarification, Sakashita Kanori does NOT end up with Ena. She meets someone that has a similar hairstyle with Ena (but completely different personality). But yes, she does not end up with Kouta. As BimboSilly says, the two original pairings don't work out and the girls find other guys to be with.

So, at some point in v12, Kanori is dealing with family issues (the same old divorce shit, mom wants her to move with her elsewhere) and bumps into Ena visiting Sakagami Kazumi, who is finally starting to realize how messed up her boyfriend is and in v11 broke up with him. Worried due to the abusive nature of the relationship (especially since in v11 he forced himself on Kazumi when she wanted to break up), she also follows to Kazumi's home. When Kanori is resting in the living room and Ena is trying to force himself onto Kazumi (who is now not so lovey-dovey with him anymore and thus is unwilling), Kanori notices this and barges in with scissors. At some point, Kazumi finally stands up for herself and asks Ena to leave, officially ending the relationship completely.

Kanori and Kouta's relationship is going fine, including some emotional support for Kanori's family matters. Then there is this girl that seems to barge into Kouta's room, acting like a stalker, using the key she stole from Kanori in v11. I'm not sure what specifically her relationship is, but apparently she was a middle school classmate and likes Kouta. After Kanori and Kouta's New Years Visit (I guess), he comes home to find her there. She tries to force herself on him, he pushes her away, Kanori visits, Kouta tries to hurry her away outside but fails, and finally out of revenge the girl tells something to Kanori that makes her break up with Kouta. Not sure what it was but it was probably a terrible enough secret (probably from what Kouta was the same as Ena before) that makes Kanori's trust in Kouta fail miserably.

v13, Kanori starts avoiding Kouta. Kazumi sees that Kanori is depressed. Ena somehow starts to miss Kazumi (and well, fuck him, because all he does is use his groin to think). After she meets him again, she uses this opportunity to try to get Kanori and Kouta together again by having all 4 of them visit an amusement park to go down memory lane (no luck). Later, Kanori moves away.

After than, about 4 months later where Kanori transfered to, a boy named Okuno (if I'm reading the hiragana おくの correctly) seems to be friendly with her, and it seems he actually likes her. He invites her to the fireworks, which she agrees to go (and does in her yukata). While watching fireworks, she cries remembering the past. The final chapter (v13c56) is her visiting her hometown and meeting up with her friends (including Kazumi) and happily playing around. Kazumi has Kouta go to a place where he would bump into Kanori, and they see each other but Kanori still can't accept him. She returns home where Okuno is waiting for her and he offers to walk her home when she is depressed. On the side note, Kazumi seems to have started to get closer to a workmate of hers.

But anyhow, I don't like any of the characters except Kanori, who I feel doesn't deserve all the crap pulled on her all the time. And though her personality is a complete doormat, I just plain feel sorry for Kazumi, who is constantly emotionally cornered by her boyfriend into this messed up relationship due to her devotion. Really, I'm happy that both of them discontinued their messed up relationship with the two male leads, even if Kouta wasn't all that bad for the duration of the story (though I can't speak for his past). Ena is a complete jackass that I wished he got some punishment, while ironically it was Kouta whose past came back to haunt him.

Anyhow, a screwed up story about terrible relationships. A somewhat cynical view of real-life relationships when things go all wrong, I guess. A bit too long for everything to play out the trainwreck, and its quite a depressing trainwreck.

EDIT: Going back a bit through the RAWS, if I'm understanding correctly:

Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Kouta sleeps with that stalker girl (end of v7c27, hinted at in v8), hence cheated on Kanori and hence her inability to trust him anymore due to him being the same as Ena in her eyes. So justice served because he doesn't have a happy ending, although Ena is far worse so it's somewhat unfair.

Depressing

Lemme just say that I generally LIKE dark, depressing and angsty stories but this..? This just left a horrible taste in my mouth. I still read it despite the bad reviews because I thought it was just that they don't normally like this kind of story which is why they didn't like it... I wish I had listened to the reviews because even for someone who likes the genres listed the story was just horrible. In a way I like how it's not your typical cheesy and loving shoujo but that's all the praise that I can give it... It's just not worth your time just to leave you feeling like you're losing faith in love and relationships. Now I feel like boyfriends are all two-timing eggheads! Now that I look at it, most of the good reviews come from people who have only read a bit of it which makes sense as the start was decent but it goes downhill so fast! Unless if you WANT to get depressed, angry and fed up with the characters bs and you want to lose faith in anything humane, please don't read it. On a side note the side stories are so annoying, the authors art style makes it hard to tell the character apart and then the author draws new characters in side stories unrelated to the main plot that looks exactly like the characters in the main plot and then messes with your head.

While I said "i hate it" that also means "i love that but i hate the ending". I love seeing Kota and Kanori together, but seems like that didn't work out.

What is the point of all those pinky flowers before if in the end they didn't get together?!

I hate that ending. I feel like being cheat when i saw Kanori goes with Ena. I hate that.

Be prepared to feel angry

First of all; I can sort of love and hate the manga. It's really good, but at the same time you don't want to read it. I definitely recommend it for people with patience because this manga will push your buttons.

Now for my rant:
13 volumes of hardships and then it just ends up as sh.t! I know it's supposed to be realistic, but me who kept on reading for so long and to get a ending like that ...! I am pissed and annoyed.

Spoiler (mouse over to view)
I hoped for an ending which would blow me away or leave me with a happy feeling - after 13 volumes where I am irritated/angry over half the time, you'd think that the mangaka would gift the reader with a happy ending!

I really can't understand the actions of the supporting female character. She makes me really angry because simply put, she is just a horrible person and has the intelligence level of a fly. I understand that she has emotional causes for this, but I'm sorry, I can hardly sympathize with her. If it wasn't for her, I would have continued reading. Average art. Average story. Some interesting characters with good development. Recommended if you can handle that one girl and her atrocious personality. 5/10

The story appeals to most High school girls, I'm totally serious. Stuff can totally happen when you just get a boyfriend when you just knew him recently. The main character's relationship was still okay. However the sub main character, her boyfriend is totally atrocious, her own innocent and pure feelings were totally played by her bf. It's totally atrocious. Although the story might be pissing, but due to the fact that it's Slice of Life genre then I'll have to agree with it alot. Gosh this guys really can't think. -.-

its sad

..it would be nice to show why Ena is what he is...since 3 people are already being analysed here...who knows? it might be in the subsequent chapters..

Spoiler (highlight to view)
..Ena kind of reminds me of someone I had been with except for the 6th Chapter...which was disgusting....Ena has no qualms on cheating women...but he can feel jealousy....it surprises me how some people live in that kind of deception....

.... The sad thing is that Sakagami will definitely take it out on Kanori...I have seen that thing too, sakagami's jealousy when Ena mentions Kanori, though it is very manga-like for sakagami to screw it over by trying something with Kota- I am glad the mangaka gave Kanori a backbone to retaliate which most mangakas never give their protagonists...

looking at the raws...i dont quite understand how that kazumi escapes rape trauma...she was perfectly okay to talk to the rapist etc...i really dont get this aspect of mangaks..glorifying forceful intercourse- it probably is expected in hentai but in shoujo- uh uh

..for those who want to know the ending....as I understand from the RAWs..none of the couples work out
...

.a string of assumed stuff and unfortunate misunderstandings and insecurity issues. Sakagami does not know who to trust...its a pity they never make a manga with honest girlfriends...one of them has always be a cheating kind..they say you know a person by who their friends are..basic law which no mangaka follows- a very unrealistic POV...
