Description
This story is about a relationship between a teacher and his student, Homura. It just so happens that Homura's older sister, Kaori was the teacher's first girlfriend. Back then, the teacher would always use Homura as an excuse to run away whenever something happened, and he would never get in the "mood" whenever he was with Kaori. One day, while going through the exam papers, he noticed that Homura wrote "I like you, sensei" in a corner. Will he accept Homura's confession?
Side Story: Unbreakable Bone The side story is of two childhood friends who meet again after 14 years. One is a policeman now, and the other is an ex-delinquent who is working at a ramen store.

I quite liked it by prettykitty20034 on October 21st, 2009, 12:59pm

I agree with some of the other reviewers, in that the story itself was average. However, the mangaka managed to take the tired, old, worn out student/teacher romance and turn it into something interesting and new again by creating some interesting characters. The pair and their relationship were well written and engaging. Sakuragi's art is excellent as well. Her faces are particularly expressive. So, I found this book to be entertaining and fun, even if isn't going to win an award for originality.

I Enjoyed this Pink Candy, And I Usually Want Black Black Spice! by MightyMaeve on November 10th, 2008, 3:47pm

That, my friends, is what I call pure, unadulterated story-telling talent! Draw me in and make me love your boat drink when I usually turn up my nose and beg for a sour margarita!
I am really liking this mangaka. I like her humour, her pathos, her quirky illustrations and her likeable, fallible characters.
At only 1 volume, the story is tightly woven and captivating without being disappointing by the time the end rolls up. The conflict is basic: It's simply the student and the teacher who really doubt themselves. Sensei doubts that Homura would love and want him, an 'old man.' He has issues of self-esteem when it comes to relationship, and is quite naive and virginal due to his unexplored homosexuality and social fears. Homura doubts himself, his frightening anger and his ability to be valued and loved in Sensei's eyes as an adult.
The illustrations are worthy of a long stare. Their faces (especially their mouths and eyes) are intriguing. I could look at them for a long time: The lips are elongated and full of emotion with a simple upturn or downturn. And the eyes are magnificent. I could 'see' the shock or lust or fear or happiness expressed through them.
They really seemed focused and caring about one another by the end.
She has made me adore her gentle characters. Isn't that a fabulous ability? To create a story, even a basic plot one, that a reader who normally wouldn't 'do' 'sweet', would discover a happy love for her absolutely memorable and even arousing short stories!
Woot!

[edit by mod, Warning: Possible spoiler] It's not really the same as Abiru Junjou; saying they have the same plot with a teacher/student affair is insanely general and the argument could be used for just about any other manga that goes down this road. In Abiru Junjou, the journey is the two getting together, which is the climax/finish of the story; in Nee, Sensei? they get together in chapter 1, and it follows their lives from then on. Abiru Junjou is also quite dramatic, whilst this is much more lighter and cuter; although they could have gone down the road of being more dramatic with Isa-san's lack of experience.
I enjoyed Nee, Sensei alot it's my kind of story; however it may always be in the shadows of Abiru Junjou since it was quite dramatic and heartfelt with just a hint of sassyness in the right places.

Abiru Junjou, which has almost the same plot: teacher + student affair, is much better. But this story wasn't too bad either. Read it if you're bored, but don't expect anything amazing.

Minor Review of Sorts by HCB on January 25th, 2008, 10:03pm

Average story? I think not. It was surprisingly sweet when it touched upon the insecurities that they each hold. The art's not bad at all, although I was minorly disturbed by some oddly long fingers in a few scenes. Now, if g0nfr34ks was talking about the side story, then yes, I'd agree.
