Description
From Yen Press:

Nightschool answers the age-old question—Where do demons get their diplomas? Schools may close for the night and the lights may be off, but class is still in session. At the Nightschool, werewolves, vampires, and witches gather to learn everything from spell casting to calculus. Alex, a young weirn (a particular kind of witch) has always been homeschooled, but dark forces seem to be drawing her closer to the Nightschool and the mysteries within.

[The series is finished for now. But the author hints at a possible sequel.]

Although the series indeed borrows from existing tropes (Magic School - Harry Potter; Night Class/Day Class, Hunters - Vampire Knight, etc) I like the concept of 'Wrein' witches with 'astral projections' which appears to be entirely original to this series (as far as I could find), with Alex's astral providing most of the comic relief. The first half of the series is very intriguing and well paced, but it speeds up a little too much in volumes 3 and 4. Yes, a continuation is planned, so I'm ok with the unanswered questions, but
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
the Sohren went down a little too easily for all that build up… and it wasn't explained too well HOW they went down, either

While the art isnt typical, the setting is. There are dozens of manga and anime that have this monster high school theme. Nightschool; The Weirn Books, is the only series to do it right. I was excited to see this setting put to a great story and to have things logically put together, a world constructed where monster and hunters make sense. I can enjoy the world the author has crafted with out the headache of awkward ecchi content or horribly illogical character behavior. I look forward to seeing more of this authors work.

I have read two volumes so far now, and I definitely am liking this. The art is refreshing and cool. The storyline is unclear yet, but I like where this is going. I am looking forward for this author to continue.
