Rather more representative of the Nishioka siblings' writing style than Kami no Kodomo, this is a collection of one-shots that explore the thoughts and feelings of ordinary people in an odd, surrealistic manner replete with atypical and symbolic illustrations.

More than one reading may be required if you are to completely grasp the core message behind each of these stories.

It was good, and interesting. As usual.
I liked it, I like the art and the plots but some stopped too abruptly for me, especially because I couldn't grasp the meanings. I'm sure they were something to think about but I'm sure a lot of people couldn't grasp them as well and that's why it doesn't appeal to the readers.
It could also be because of the culture differences. Some symbols are more obvious in different countries especially for the older generation.
Thanks to sarah who explained one for me, else I might have never known. I don't think I fully understand any one of these, or even halfly.

if the person below me dont explain the story, i would never know the true meaning. thus you understand when i mean it is hard to understand, it is me particularly that fail to grasp the subtlety and complexity of the Japanese mindset and culture. multiple readings with moments to reflect on the stories individually is a must.
it's a good manga, certainly different than most others. try it smile

beautiful stories where you'll have to look a little beneath the surface to understand the meaning
i especially liked the one with the woman who has a snake in her mouth
if you're wondering about the meaning of the story, here's a little explanation:
the man in the story was in love with a woman who lies alot(snakes are always used as a symbol for lies)
he couldnt trust her anymore and he felt that they no more communicated like they used to do
he was growing curious "what is she thinking?" "what is she hiding?"
but the woman continued lying nevertheless
after a while, the man's curiousity turned into pity
and he stayed with her for the sole reason that noone else would take care of a dishonest person like her
at the end of the story, when she says "the snake has bitten me" it means that she finally started feeling guilty
and the "this was our first conversation in a long while" means that they started connecting once again
its a very beautiful story..and alot of people can relate to it
