quite an amazing series....overall plot, character depth, development and complexity...and beautiful artistry in the way it was done.... it was obvious that the author tried to seriously research the material in mythologies, correct use of language both latin and french in usage, sayings, prayers, application etc...
IF only...the last part wasnt rushed to a close.........well it looks more like the publisher wanted it to be closed quickly and or the author was running out of time to even continue his research for correct length of the ending...........regardless it was rushed........it was well done rushed...kinda open ended......but again rushed none the less..and many key aspects to the plot remained without answer or any closure......so because of that its only 8/10 rather than 10............
seriously why do publishers kill projects that have sooo much potential....or truly brilliant works of art...
Interesting play on history using real people and the facts and rumors that surround them into great fiction. The anime is also great in it use of real events and people and alter it into fascinating supernatural story. If you really care about historical accuracy, this play on real history is not for you. This is not historical documentary here, it's a manga story with some historical elements, I don't know why some people complain about that.
It depends on what you're looking for, I guess. This is a manga with supernatural elements (it has people that turn into monsters, our main character gets supernatural powers when possessed by his sister). I don't know how much historical accuracy can be expected in these circumstances.
I myself read it for the suspenseful story and the beautiful art (reminiscent of Hellsing).Unlike the anime, the characters have more personality (D'Eon is a ditzy, sweet, geeky fellow with a smart-ass servant named Robin), the atmosphere is completely different, much more mysterious, and many story elements follow another path. In other words, the anime and the manga seem to be separate, all they have in common is the name of the characters and the general premise.
