Description

I read Mayu Shinjo manga for the same reasons some women read romance novels or watch soap operas. The characters are horrible, the plots are lame... but there's a certain *something* that sort of pulls you in and quickens the heartrate. Maybe it's the strong male lead that defies the politically correct notions of reality. Maybe it's the totally cliched power dynamics in the couples. I don't know. All I know is that her manga is a guilty pleasure of mine.
That said, this manga is lacking that magic. Sure, it has a more capable plot and more likable characters... but it's missing that certain magic that makes me liken Mayu Shinjo's work to the bodice ripper novels of old. And to be honest, if I compare this to other manga I read (the ones I don't consider guilty pleasures - ie the ones with good plots and characters), it falls short.
So I'll go back to what I said in the beginning. I read Mayu Shinjo's manga for the pulpy guilty pleasures of unPC male leads and bodice ripping action. This contains neither.
It wasn't bad, by any means... but it's lacking that certain something.

I wonder why not all of her works are like this?
Instead of seeing a dumb heroine being thrown around like some tramp, we finally see a heroine who is capable to stand by herself, the guy too is not the usual Mayu's macho guy trying to rape her on the first sight.
It's so refreshing to have Mayu's story with a strong heroine and no rape for once. I too would like that she would push those idiotic weak heroines away and bring strong girls in. They make the story taste much better. |

I can honestly say I'm surprised with this. Why, WHY can't all Shinjo Mayu stories be like this I actually love most of the characters in this oneshot, and do you know what is more surprising? None of the male characters want to get into the female lead's pants And the male lead doesn't profess his love by raping the female lead! In fact, if he tried, the girl will most likely castrate him, seeing as she actually has a backbone and has no problem kicking a guy's d**k. If you are interested in reading something different from shinjo Mayu, you should read this. |

it was so cute!!! even though it was just a oneshot it had sense and story!! it wasnt made up from misunderstandings and then sudden confessions in the end...
