Description
Jinbe is a very subtle and soft tale by Adachi, and certainly it'a story that deals a theme a bit more conflicting than most of his other works.

At first sight, Jinbe is the story of a young 17 years old girl, Miku Takanashi, who lives alone with her step father Jinpei Takanashi (nicknamed Jinbe or shark).

Jinbe has been living with Miku since his marriage 4 years ago, and considers Miku a God's sent gift from his high school sweet heart late wife. While Jinpei does his best as an over protective and jealous father, we have that Miku holds feelings for Jinbe which are much stronger than the ones an adopted daughter is supposed to have. The main core of the story is to deal how the strong, tender and unrequited feelings of the young Miku put to test their step - father and step - daughter bonds, without jeopardizing any of the happiness that she feels by being close to him as a proper daughter.

People are weird by Hell_Clues on July 14th, 2009, 8:57pm

How many stories are about siblings, or some authority figure that's a bit older ect. Before I talk too much about the manga let me explain that he became her step father when she was 14(or 13 about to turn 14).

Anyway, it has a lot of adachi's qualities but it's closer to adventure boys in the way it tells the story. It's also very short, but still has a slow tempo like its not in a rush. Adventure boys was about grown men revisiting their childhoods. While keeping the humour, this story is sort of a bit more serious, less slapstick. Adachi doesn't cut or refer to himself throughout either.

It's the volume equivalent of a one shot. So if you like his other works, it's worth reading. If you don't.... then you really have to ask yourself if you're okay with the topic. And also whether you wouldn't mind an ending that's not that conclusive. Adachi in general doesn't stick around for his endings. Usually letting you imagine what could happen next.

Just pretend that last 3 pages don't exist by topboy on July 12th, 2009, 6:04am

I feel like this manga is slice of life. It is cute short story about relationship between stepfather (39 yrs.) and stepdaughter (17 yrs.) [Read Description]. Tell u the truth if this manga don't have last 3 pages that's not-so-good plot-twist , I will give 8.5-9/10.
Spoiler (highlight to view)
It will be better if relation between them be pure stepfather and stepdaughter, not love interest. Don't know why adachi think like this.

Short and sweet. by zeidrich on November 6th, 2006, 6:32pm

Won't take much time to read. Not worth the usual dedication Adachi's fans are known for. While the manga uses Adachi's style in artwork and storytelling, it just doesn't seem to come together. Not worth the read, unless you fantasize about marrying your daughter. Bleh. *Laugh*
