Description
Shiratori Ryuji wants to become a picture book writer, and he moves to an apartment, Narutaki-So, in order to go to an art school in Tokyo. The Narutaki-so is an old Japanese style one-story house which doesn’t fit in with the urban scenery. It's owned by the cousin of his mother, but the manager of the apartment is Aoba Kozue. She is his second cousin, and they met with each other when they were children although he doesn’t remember her much. She is in the second year of a high school attached to Aoba Junior Collage.

There are five people living in Narutaki-So. First, Chanohata Kotomi is living in the room #1. She is a best friend of Kozue. Then, the resident of the room #3 is Momono Megumi. She is a kind of person who goes her own way. In the room #5, Kurosaki Sayoko and her daughter Asami are living. Asami is in the first year of a junior high. Finally, in the room #6, Haibara Yukio is living with his puppet, “Johnny”.

They are all characteristic and eccentric persons. However, in fact, the most eccentric person is Kozue. She has a secret; when she is shocked at something, she changes her personality. Not knowing this, Shiratori moves to Narutaki-So to realize his dream. What kind of a new life will be waiting for him?

Absolutely hilarious by ogreenworld317 on January 7th, 2010, 10:05pm

I really liked this manga; At first, its a bit slow, and its humor is okay. But later on, this manga really picks up- Theres a lot of character development (especially Kozue's personalities), and its really funny. Also, the ending is great(not the last chapter, but the chapters leading up to it).
Btw, the anime is awesome too, although i hated the ending because it was so different from the manga.

Maybe here. by jessicali12 on August 6th, 2009, 3:57am

One of the few manga that really uplift my spirits! I wished the series was longer and some common shojo-themed parts were expected but the art, the story and the characters fit in well enough to cover them up. Love it, definitely recommended to readers who like light shojo and a bit of happiness ^^

Another recommend by topboy on July 27th, 2009, 3:17am

They all meet, share some time of life, or even depart , here, Narutakirou.

Many events some happy while some sad (mostly happy).
All tenants here are so much friendly, good peoples, lovely.
This story is touching, said about friendship said about love said about family. It's part of life that's so cute.

Only problem is too many character (110+ characters included animals and dolls that have named) but it's worth 10/10

most pleasant read by songofthewaves on June 24th, 2009, 5:30pm

really uplifting, with an a-grade feel good factor. like reading a ghibli movie. all the right ingrdients. extremely likeable characters, with well developed back stories (even johnny get one!!), a full and deep plot, romance, trials, and prevaling against adversity, and a extremely satisfying conclusion. major thumbs up. small advice though, get out the tissue. even as a bloke, some bits were a bit eye liquid producing.

very good read by phoenixlight on May 23rd, 2009, 1:13am

I recommend it. Sometimes the chapters a bit confusing at first but it's explained towards the end of it and it all clicks then. Some chapters were also presented in very interesting ways. A+

Touching.. by SomePerson on May 5th, 2009, 9:33pm

Waaaa~
Loved it, very light-hearted and comedic, but it also had its deep dramatic moments. I have to admit it bored me a bit at times, but towards the last half of the story it got so much better. There are very unique and special characters, and each and everyone of them develop greatly, there is a huge amount of development in the characters and their relationships. AT times this manga is really touching, it stresses the simple importance of just being together and living life, as happily as you can. The last few chapters were great, especially the scene in Chapter 61. And in 62, the mini-personalities were LOL XD

Looking forward to Kojima Arika's next work, Manabiya!

Suprised me by flapple on March 26th, 2009, 11:32pm

it kinda suprised me at the end. either i have psychic powers or i have read this before (well im pretty sure i didnt.) cause i could predict the ending.

well besides that this is a really good romance/comedy manga. Although, i still hate how the main character is a girly guy. hes a least tall though. This kinda bugs me but it also brings a LOT of comedy into the manga.

The first few Volumes were painful it started getting better around volume 8. from vol 2-7 it was really boring. oh well.

GREAT CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT.

sweet manga gotta read it.

Top-notch romance comedy, with a dash of drama by mangum44 on March 5th, 2009, 4:47am

One of my favorite mangas ever - and one of the few I keep always close to re-read once in a while.

Marohaba has a fairly unique concept (main heroine with multiple personality disorder), but that's just the beginning of it. Every single character has been carefully crafted, so that what initially comes across as just another stereotype (such as party-girl Momo) turns out to have a detailed and often heartbreaking backstory that gives insight into the reasons why they act as they do.

It's a real pleasure to see the relationships between these persons develop as they get to know each other - and themselves - better, grow up, and deal with their various issues. Mahoraba contains a small amount of drama for all its comedy, a streak of darkness inside the general lightheartedness it proposes. This is generally handled in a rather nuanced way, making for the unusual spectacle of a manga that contains drama but almost no melodrama (if you know what I mean).

It certainly helps that this is a very "positive" manga, where all the conflicts are eventually resolved in a very satisfactory way. Even the subcharacters, depressed as they are for not getting enough "screen time", eventually deal with their plight through rather awesome, if understated, means.

The drawings are simple but generally very cute, and occasionally hilarious of their own. Aside from the male main character's poor fashion sense, everything else is very "correct!" ;-)

A really nice plus is the extra material appearing alongside the chapters. That includes a visual novel of sorts, an card RPG of sorts, magic tricks which you can learn, and a general abundance of funny stuff happening in the background. Why, there's even a 12 panel story running *on the spines* of the volumes!

It's not often that you can find a story so well planed and executed; but more important, a story that has so much heart. All the main characters - and some of the secondary ones - are bound to be etched into your heart for a long, long time.
