In this prequel, we learn more about the painful backstory of Yashiro, the yakuza boss from Don't Stay Gold, and how he and Kageyama first became friends in high school.

The oneshot adds to readers' understanding of the characters from Don't Stay Gold and Saezuru Tori wa Habatakanai, but also can be read as a standalone.

There's something different about this mangaka's stories. The ending was one of the most moving I've read in a BL manga so far. Definitely no romance here, but it's something different and it's good quality (great art and great story). I'll be keeping an eye on this mangaka's work!

I felt like my heart ripped out...which is not a nice feeling....

I've read plenty of tragedies, plenty of yaoi, plenty of drama before - some volumes and volumes long - all while rolling my eyes at the stupidity of those in love. It's been a while since I last felt like crying my eyes out, and it took Yoneda Kou only like what, 40 pages or however long this was?

I generally don't really like stories about unrequited love and the sort as you're almost guaranteed an unhappy ending, but I'm really glad I went ahead with this one. I love Yashiro's character; he's so complex and so freaking heartbreaking. Really, half the time I feel like ripping his head out and the other half I want to give him this big hug and tell him everything'll be alright. He's not your average character; he's smart, insightful, and dammit he's "hella good looking". I read this just for him.

Overall, this is typical Yoneda, with beautiful art and the well-rounded characters (Yashiro is by far one of my favorite characters of all time). The stories she writes are so very real, and they hit really close to home. It's like being on an emotion rollercoaster. Go read this now . It's one of the greatest one-shots I've read about love.

On a related note: If you want more Yashiro, go read Saezuru Tori wa Habatakanai . I think we may get a happy ending for him, FINALLY. Seriously, he really deserves it.

It's the unsaid things that build up tension, and in this oneshot it's silence that speaks. Sad and heartbreaking but if you read the sequel you'll kow things will be ok so don't miss that!
it's a 9 though, because sometimes you have to read the bubbles twice to get who's talking, and this is one of her recurrent problems, but it's well worth your time smile

A beautiful sad story with unusual characters, unhappy circumstances, contrasting personalities and the likelihood of forming a bond that you aren't aware of.

Yoneda Kou manages yet again to present a captivating story, the deeper meanings revealed by images and silent moments in between the dialogue.

A must read in my opinion!

the BEST oneshot I've ever read!

I've no idea how to describe how much I love this oneshot...
First, our brilliant mangaka, Yoneda Kou totally groundbreak BL stereotypes, she was dare to stepping out of the save zone and wasn't afraid to 'break' her characters... It makes the story more realistic and open our eyes to reality (that not every BL always ended up with 'good ending' even in a real life..)

Second, it just amazing how 38 pages can contain lots of progress, character development and their background without looking rushed. And I can feel how Yashiro's poker mask painfully broken little by little as the story goes.

and finally, the most beautiful thing from Yoneda's works... it's the deeper messages that you can get by pictures of characters action/emotion without dialogue in it... (you'll find this a lot in Saezuru Tori Wa Habatakanai, Doushitemo Furetakunai and many of her doujinshis.)

In my opinion, this manga is totally worth to read.. she brings BL manga to a whole new level.

This is my most favourite yaoi story I've ever read despite its lack of romance. It has one of the most beautiful endings also. I'd honestly recommend this to anyone, as long as you can stand SM in a story (I'd even recommend it for that aspect because it has a lesser-seen take on a masochist's thoughts).

Normally, I hate unrequited love and unhappy endings, but the beauty of this one outshines all of that and leaves me honestly happy to have come across this work.

@GOKI408 I like that it ended ended somewhat tragically. Not everything can be a happy ending but I think that this actually makes the sequel better. Knowing the history between these two characters makes it much more interesting with all of the things going on later.

I don't like oneshots, but this one is so emontionally deep (and the feelings seemed quite realistic to me, too), that I think it's the best one shot I have ever read. On top of that I rank it as better than most of yaoi series. On one hand I cried for continuation with happy ending, but it would only destroy all the story.

Page by page I felt my heart breaking until there's nothing left anymore. In here we see the early stages of Yashiro's twisted mind and his unrequited love. You gotta read the sequel to see how it progresses!
