To me, the story seemed too short; it felt like the series was cancelled needed to wrap up in a single chapter. It irks me when a story does that because there's usually so much more that can be done with its premise. Plot lines are left unresolved and characters are left with little to no development.
I also didn't find the jokes very funny. Dororo, who I think was the story's comedic relief character, was simply obnoxious most of the time.
On the plus side, the main story involving Hyakkimaru and the 48 demons was very interesting. I liked how each encounter with a demon brought some kind of moral dilemma, especially in the last volume. Hyakkimaru was a good character, someone who's willing to save people from the demons but is also fighting for selfish reasons and is usually seen in a negative light by the people he saves. If the story was about him and his struggles and left Dororo out, I would be fine with that.
I'm glad I read it, but at the same time I'm not. Hopefully the 2019 anime does a better job at... well, everything.

this is what most shounen try to be, but fail to be. gripping plotline, interesting characters, feel good messages without being corny, comedic yet full of suspense and drama...wow, this manga is freaking awesome.
yes, the ending is a bit unsatisfactory, but apparently the 'author die before completion'. still, nice enough to tidy it up. the art is simple yet it is easy in the eye. it can be childish, and it is, but thats one of the plus point.
very recommended.
