Nice romance for a shounen!

The only shounen manga that made me liked the tsundere relationship between the main lead & the heroine. As much as I love the fight scenes what hooks me to this manga is the romantic sub plot. So yeah I recommend this manga for those who looks for shounen with good romance, epic fight scenes, non slutty female lead & mature tsundere hero.

SDK might be typical but you will grow to love the story as it progresses and additional factor is the ending of the manga was wrapped up nicely without any loose ends.

it wasn't too long. Unfortunately, I don't have the attention span for mangas as long as this, so I had to drop it. Nevertherless, I still liked it, even though I hate some parts- like the comparison between Kyo's first woman and Yuya, if it was me, I would HATE to be compared to someone else. Like someone else said, I was disappointed with Yuya's degrading from a badass to weak heroine. Other than that, I do love the art- it's pretty decent and the story is fine too, but obviously not mind bending, or overly unique, just normal. Everyone also said some more useful reviews about this so I'll leave it to this...

Good read

The very first shonen that I completely read and love.
The main character is a badass anti hero at first but as the story progresses he develops appreciation for friendship and love.

Although there are some long fights that took 3O chapters or more of this manga but I don't see anything wrong with it since it's a shonen manga.
Anyway I gave this manga 10 because I love Kyo and Yuya's subtle romance and the side characters that made this manga worth the read.

Remarkable!

Remarkable piece of work! Samurai story about friendship, finding the truth and strength, and the true meaning of happiness. There is plenty of enthralling and really beautiful sentences coming from the characters while they're fighting in order to find the true meaning and purpose of their lives. There are many characters, but all of them will eventually capture your attention, maybe even heart. They are so warm, funny and just human! You can find all of your flaws in them, and mature together with them. Even if they were at first antagonists and bad guys, they are not the kind of bad guys you hate until the very end, but you come to emphatize with them and possibly even like them as the story flows, and in their last moments when you see that they weren't always evil, instead, they were gentle and wanted to change the world, but lost themselves in the process and ended up corrupted, in the end, you forgive them all so there isn't anyone to hate anymore smile
The most magnificient thing is the bond between Kyo and Kyoshiro, and Yuya. Kyoshiro who is gentle, protective and warm person, but also unstable and likely to do something wrong while trying to help, and Kyo who is cold, wild, and aloof, seems to actually be quite wise, witty and rational when it comes to his comrades and even enemies. Yuya's and Kyo's bond is something that will keep us, girls tense all the time, cause...you just have to read the manga till the very end. One thing I must say, and I know that there are others who don't agree with me, cause it's maybe clichéd, but this is the manga with one of the most beautiful and heart-warming ending I've ever read. So, please, enjoy it smile
(And pay special attention to Hotaru and Akira, really two hilarious guys that will make you laugh to tears)
Enjoy!

Could have been good

I went into this series with fairly high hopes, as I've heard a lot of good things about it and I like Samurais. But still this series is poorly done

As you've probably guessed it, the theme of this manga is about Samurai in the Edo(ish) period. There are some likable points to this series. For example there are quite a few of coolers characters who will likely keep you interested/excited. The plot isn't bad either, does a solid job of explaining things while keep it mysterious at the same time. What really kills the series is the action(really sad for a Samurai manga). It's one of those dumb Manga where the good guys win in lame ways. In this case Kyo(the main character) will be clearly weaker than his opponent, but as his bloodlust rises he magically gets stronger(and it has never been stated in the manga that this is the case for him), so he ends up beating really opponents who were whupping on him before, just because he's enjoying the battle. It's lame, and it's really lazy on the mangaka's part. I guess I've been spoiled by Naruto, where they almost always do a great job of explaining why a certain opponent won, and therefore manga like this really annoy me.

While most of what ayanechan said below is true, I would say the manga is still worth a read. Even with all the shortcomings, there are still quite a few epic moments that will definitely make it worth your while. I am a sucker for happy endings so suffice to say, I was really happy with the ending and epilogue. For all the cliches and annoyances, SDK still shines through.

I thought that SDK was pretty interesting and...i still do. I'm up to chapter 160 or something and i really want to know what happens, that's the only thing keeping me reading this manga. Kyoshiro turning into Kyo at first really confused me, i though he'd change back...i thought...until i had to accept that he probably wasn't coming back. Yuya just gets utterly wimpy!! I mean she was so badass at the start and then she totally falls, and all she can do is comment on the fights while they go on. Also every time Kyo falls its all like "Kyooooooooo!" i mean get a room already.
COMMENTING its so fudging annoying, i mean we can see whats happening ourselves! Every fight someone had to tell us every detail, how scary they look, how they can't see the move.
Also the plot is really slow...i think that Akimine should have sped it up and cut out the first hundred or so chapters. The fights are really repetitive, its all Kyo loosing and then he gets this massive killing aura. ANOTHER THING the killing auras just seem to be getting more frightening every chapter, there has to be a limit to how much a frown can scare you.
A character that really annoys me though, and we don't even know her yet is Sakuya. I mean Yuya is like compared to her so much. I would be angry as if i were compared to her, its like Kyo doesn't like Yuya at all (right now there's hardly been romance...but it is shonen) and he likes how much she reminds him of Sakuya.
All in all, this manga has a REALLY interesting plot, well once you get past all these things, but if it doesn't bother you GO AHEAD.

I first saw the anime for this series. It was pretty good in my opinion, a tough guy making a servant out of a tough young woman and threatening to kill anyone strong. The anime touched lightly on some romance, but the manga hints a LOT at it. In fact, just the little bits of it are enough to keep a girl happy without going too shoujo. The drawing is very well done, and the characters develop really nicely. This is great!

first few manga is not very captivating.... just so-so....
but quite good to follow, then when it reach 11 and up volume, become more and more interesting,
and I cant stop read it! especially when it reach 20 volume and up....
one good point is, the ending is good! I love the last chapter! a story without word... but full of meaning.
Good Job Kamijyo Akiine-san!! >.<!!

In me opinion, this manga art and fighting scene is even on a par or a least nearly at the level of those top shounen.
The story is fine, but the never losing plot is a bit dull though most shounen go that way.
The settings of side characters is very nice. All of them is unique and likable.
Take Bleach as an example for this manga, there lines of characters, friends and foes, each of them fight each other, the enemy is always overwhelming but somehow we will manage to win.

BUT the 2 main characters is so damn dense, that make the whole plot shallow. It's a bit sad since this manga should be much better
