Description
Tamiya Nika is a beautiful, outgoing, popular high-school girl. She has just the right look, just the right fashions, and is everyone's friend. What everyone at school does not know is how hard Nika works to keep up this perfect image, and what she is REALLY like at home. When not at school, Nika is a scary, sloppy, tight-fisted girl who wears glasses, an ugly sweatsuit, and has her hair pulled back into unattractive buns. She lies around playing video games and reading manga. Her attitude is bossy and cranky, and she travels far out of her way to shop where she won’t be recognized.

Not typical shoujo I think. It is funny and with adventure and normal people problems included 🙂 couple is solid which is a plus, strong female lead and good looking ml, what else can I want 🙂
All the comments are very old, give it a go I think this one is one of the classics.

The premise is very similar (*cough* straight up copied) to Kare Kano, so it's easy to pass judgement on Switch Girl as unspectacular. However, Switch Girl, is in its own right, pretty entertaining. The characters are different. The interactions are different. The general vibe is more light-hearted and silly. That gives it enough originality to be entertaining in comparison to many other ongoing shoujo series.

If you want a more serious, romantic type of shoujo manga that is not too cliched.....this is not the manga for you.
If you just want a manga that is lighthearted and funny, however......then yeah, I definitely recommend this.
The plot arcs and some of the characters in Switch Girl!! are actually not all that interesting; some stuff seems unnecessary.
However, the comedic stuff.....the way the heroine reacts....the things most of the characters in this manga go through.....absolutely HILARIOUS. I had never laughed so much at a shoujo to the point of tears until I read this manga. I especially love the way the author draws out her characters' expressions.....often, her characters appear to be on the verge of becoming awkward and demonic, which adds to the hilarity of the tale.
Seriously, I don't regret reading this. It makes me wonder how people perceive me when I'm out and about, versus when I'm at home....alone.....where no one can judge my own embarrassing ways. xD

Read it...Seriously just do it! I won't take no for an answer!
Originally I just read the two firt chapters but then thought that this wasn't something for me. But that was mostly because I didn't realise it was such an emphasis on the comedy and at the time I just wanted to read a sweet story with a PRETTY heroinne...Hahaha, Nika-chan is nothing like that in her off-form wich probably was what scared me away, haha.
BUT THEN I CHANGED MY MIND!
A year later I took it up again because I went through my list and didn't want to leave it unfinished. (I have OCD about that sort of stuff, haha). Anyway, if I be damned this isn't the FUNNIEST THING I HAVE EVER READ.
Firstly, the changes between her off and on mode are hilarious and, let's face it, I'm not the only one who thinks that I'm exactly like her. I was a little bit reluctant to admit it, but then I took a look in the mirror and realised that the story might as well be written about me. Isn't it what we all do? Put up a nice facade when we go out to meet people and at home we PIG OUT!
And now to another IMPORTANT aspect of this series. I read some of the comments, which basically say that they are disapointed in the realism of their love life and so on and so forth. but what Aida Natsumi-sensei has done is pure geniousness...
She has, without a doubt, took every single part of a shoujo cliché and put it in here, and made it hilarious. Think about it...
List a couple of clichés in your head, that you think is typical shoujo. I guarante you that the mangaka has taken them in to this story. But here is the genious in it all. She makes all these clichés funny in an ironic way. Which is why this story is so funny to begin with.
Nikas family is the solemn reason to why I cannot keep reading this late at night because I'll wake my neighbours from laughing. And those little special segments in the end of the chapters when the auhor explains different types of switch girl "syndromes" makes the most of this entire series.
Needles to say, I love it, and if you like comedy, you'll love it to.
Also, I wrote this while wearing sweatpants, greasy hair in bun, no make up on and pigging out on pocky to my hearts content. Like a true switch girl in off mode!

Nika becomes best friends with her enemies, just like every other manga, (Hana Yori Dango for an example) and she also brings in the "third wheel" who stirs things up between the couple because one of them likes her and/or want to take revenge. Etcetera, etcetera, etcetera.
List a couple of clichés in your head, that you think is typical shoujo. I guarante you that the mangaka has taken them in to this story. But here is the genious in it all. She makes all these clichés funny in an ironic way. Which is why this story is so funny to begin with.

I love this series because of its quirks. Drop the melodrama: if you want a good shoujo, this isn't the proper one, as I think the story in itself is not the best. But the comedy is what makes me give this a 10. Maybe I am too slack about it, but every time I get to a chapter, my belly gets hurting because of some of the jokes. Of course it's over the top, but that's what makes it great! And I can, without any doubt, see myself in some of the comments and criticisms (even if I hope I use a lesser degree of it!!).
So if you want a good fun time, got for it!!
But if you want a true romance that makes your heart beat furiously, I suggest you continue looking!

Nika telling Arata to forgive his mother for nearly two decades of cheating on his father is just disgusting.
The series is interesting with a funny heroine and a different situation but this is just such a moronic turn of events. Hate is a perfectly reasonable feeling to have for someone and telling someone to get over something like that defies belief.

I'll be honest, I had great expectations after reading the first couple of chapters. The story was funny, the main female lead wasn't like the average shoujo lead, and the art looks really good.
However, as the story progressed it quickly started to disappoint. Examples (contains spoilers from first 5 volumes)
For me this was a manga that started really good, turned cliche and used these cliches badly. Events should have extended and handled better. All in all, still a good read but fell really short from my high expectations.

I found it really annoying that almost the next day after the female lead realizes that she is in love with the main lead, a love rival appears, starts blackmailing her to sleep with him [he knows her secret], she refuses. He then confesses his love for her. She starts thinking he's not such a bad guy [wtf, he just tried to blackmail you, literally a day ago] and starts wavering between the 2 males. (shoujo cliche used badly number 1)
My second disappointment was how the male lead back story was handled. His mother was cheating on his father from before he was born till he was 12. So 12+ years of infidelity and she only stopped when she was caught in the act. 5 years later, she shows up wanting to fix their relationship. All that is fine .
What i had a problem with, the moment the main female lead hears the story [he tells her he still sees the images clear in his head off his mother cheating] she tells him to go live with his mother o_0. (shoujo cliche used badly number 2)

I like the art and the story was okay but the main reason why I dropped this was because of the main character. I hate her attacks on the main lead. I know it's meant to be funny but it just pisses me off because I've seen lots of manga with love crazy girls. She's strong when it comes to defending others and stuff, I don't know I forgot a lot I dropped it ages ago, but when it comes to her own feelings she's so very insecure! Like come on! Other than that it was a pretty good manga but just a lousy main lead.
