Description
From DMP: 27-year-old Nishioka is a selfish and irresponsible yet talented young photographer living on his own in the world. Then there’s Matsukawa, a man working for an advertisement agency, who infallibly makes Nishioka’s work a smash hit. At first glance, these two look like they don’t get along, but underneath it all there’s actually a burning love for each other….
I like that this is so well paced. You get to know the characters, get a feeling for how they act, react and stand to one another. The story builds up well, first showing their jobs, current problems, private lives, and then slowly revealing about the past and their feelings.
There's a lot of nice details, like the photo Ken passed to Daisuke, which kept making him laugh out loud randomly in meetings and such.... it's those kind of details that make the story feel alive and the characters human.
The characters just work together! There's the right kind of chemistry, and while Daisuke being the stoic, calm and composed man and Ken being a cheerful, playful tsundere, it is Daisuke who relies on Ken when he needs help, and they both have a bittersweet, tragic past that influenced them... there's just so much to these characters!
I'll recommend this to anyone, because it's got everything a good yaoi manga needs! An exciting and interesting plot, likable characters, twists, secrets, drama... sex, and a good art style. The only thing that bothers me would be that it's softcore yaoi, and I'd prefer it a bit more steamy.
It was a sweet story, but I couldn´t feel the chemistry between the two main characters. Felt kinda shallow. The art was good though, and the plot was okay. I´m usually not a big fan of " I had a dead lover before you" kinda theme, but this time it worked out.
I just gotta say that this shouldn´t be branded as a yaoi....at all. They had like one sex scene in the whole manga, and that was between Daisuke and his dead lover. And between the main couples they didn´t show ANY sex scenes, just hints. So I think this should be branded as a Shounen-ai.
Either way, If you´re looking something lighthearted and fluffy, this one is for you. If you´re new to the whole yaoi/shounen-ai genre I would also recommend this.
after reading the other reviews, i came to this series with high expectations... i wasn't super disappointed, it's definitely good, but not engaging enough for me to call it amazing, or even the best. i found myself taking many breaks in reading because i just wasn't interested enough to continue and skipping over parts. toko kawai always does a good job of creating honest and likeable characters, but something is missing, maybe the couple is too vanilla and rose-tinted for me.
The art isn't as good as some of her other works but the story rates very high. I got pretty emotional reading it and I really like the types of characters depicted! The scans weren't very high quality in the later chapters though and that was kind of annoying.
It's been so long since I've read this for the last time, and it's still so good even now! Okay, I'm totally biased here because I am an openly Kawai Touko fan...but this is one of my favorite titles from even her! Nishioka is one of my all-times favorite ukes. He's simply adorable. He's not whiny, he's just scared and really, really shy. He has also a lot of regrets about his past, but still can't be straightofward, so he's often pained by it. Even so, he is a really attentive person and cares very much about Daisuke and everyone else he loves. And Daisuke has only one word to describe him: perfection. He's quite pushy and perverted, but just enough to get Nishioka's own needs out, even if he doesn't tell Daisuke himself. And he ALWAYS knows what Nishioka means and wants. He's a really caring seme! His past is the best character's past ever. It is as good as the main story, and really heart-breaking...and then you see how he finally moved on when he met Nishioka and love this couple even more!
I like especially how their relationship progress slowly, from casual things that happen. Although we can see Daisuke's been aware of Nishioka for a long time, it's not mutual until Nishioka remembers his past and doesn't want to make the same mistake with Daisuke. And then a series of events start when Daisuke kisses him. I love how Nishioka goes through every single aspect of falling in love, from desire to jealousy, and back to showing your emotions in front of that special person.
Apart from the relationship itself, the characters also grow as human beings. Whille Nishioka learns how to express his feelings better and even be selfish when he needs to, Daisuke learn how to finally suceed in love and thinks more about Nishioka then about himself.
It amazes me how Kawai-sensei can turn an ordinary plot into something very special and beautiful. She adds twists to it that simply get you involved deep enough to get in love with the characters forever. Even the dialogues are brilliant. How Daisuke tells us that Nishioka is a virgin ("still so pure and sweet") instead of just saying it, for instance.
And it's just the MOST PERFECT art. They're both drop-dead gorgeous. Nishioka is cute, but he's also sexy. And Daisuke is so freaking hot!
Seriously, you should't be wasting time reading reviews. GO READ IT ALREADY!
This was my first yaoi manga and i have to say it was and is still one of the best yaoi manga i have read. i also would like to add that this is an great manga for you to read if your just starting out and don't know if you can handle some of those hard-core yaoi moments.
I find it kind of funny that Daisuke looks so much hotter starting from chapter 5, lol.
Anyway, aside from the art discrepancy between chapters (which, even the artist herself pointed out), the story itself is overall cute and lighthearted, and it does have plot and character development, which I like. Definitely worth a read if you're looking for a longer series with not so much heavy angst (not to say that Loveholic doesn't have angst, but just not that intense).
I didnt like daisuke's past lover, he was such a jerk who was sleeping with both daisuke and his fiancee at the same time. but diasuke knew he had a fiancee so he shouldnt have overreacted when he found out his fiancee was pregnant, why would he care when he laughed when he found out his lover was getting married? but daisuke was more much more possessive about Nishioka, and Nishioka although he tries to act selfish has honest feelings for Daisuke and although he tries to run away from their relationship unlike Sei he actually stays with Daisuke, i think he is a better match for Daisuke. i liked Nishioka past and i wish it had been longer, it would have been interesting if he had shown up later in the story to give competition to Daisuke. Also, great art, as always! also, sorry to get off topic but has anyone noticed how beautiful the hands of the characters this author draws are? so long and pretty.
the backstory for Daisuke, "The Cold One" is really cute. It shows why he has that tattoo on his arm. Actually, both of their backstories are bittersweet. I feel like they're more interesting than the actual plotline... but the story itself is really cute too
