Description
On the island of Opal live the world's most colorful birds. The birds have attracted a school for aspiring "Palettes" — wizards who have the ability to "borrow" color from one object and paint its qualities onto another. Young Cello has the potential to be a great Palette, but she just can't seem to control her power. As the end of freshman year approaches she's on the verge of failing, so she's going to need all the help her bird, Yoyo, can provide.

I think this manga is underrated or at least not very well known. I found it in the library one day and I just love it. It's a sweet story - takes place on a tropical island that makes you feel relaxed while reading it. I like the main character, Cello, because she's strong and tries hard, and isn't stupid (even though she does fail in school). Also, the love interest, Dr. Guell, is fantastic. He's unemotional at first and then slowly starts warming up to Cello. It's a teacher x student romance (sort of, he's a school doctor) but it's not super dramatic and no one cares about their relationship or tries to break them apart.
I definitely recommend this if you want something a little different than typical shoujo manga.

I recently picked up a copy of Volume 5 randomly and I welcomed the lack of angst it had. It's refreshing to read something that doesn't give you stomach pains because of the harsh emotions of the story (*cough* Nana! *cough*). Everything was easygoing with likable characters, a dash of romance, a teaspoon of drama and tension, and a simple but attractive artistic style.
The fact that the manga-ka sometimes tells the story from the birds' point-of-view is also appreciated. Yes, even the birds in this story are given some page time. I'm getting sick of dramatic manga!! I enjoyed Palette immensely. Thank-you, CMX!!!

I finished this manga rather quickly...it wasn't her best, but it was sweet and funny at times ^^
I do think that 6 volumes for everything that happened is a little long, seeing as there wasn't much romance involved...
Anyway, a fun read!...?
