I have just finished the manga and I'm so sad it's finished ;_;. This manga just blew me away. It's funny and sad, but theres a (thank god!) light-hearted feel to this. I really came to like the character Aya, and in a way all characters are lovable, even the criminals, because they can be really funny. And if this is thought to be a shallow manga in any way, it is not. It put all the common points of common storylines and put them on a platter for the readers to see. I highly recommend this for everyone. I loved Neuro's character! Sadistic characters like him are the best.

It started off kind of mediocre, and ended after getting a tiny bit draggy, but volumes 4-20 were great! This is just not your average shounen manga- the heroine is funny, and her obsession with food is borderline insane, but hilarious; Neuro must be the only psychopath in the world who no one can dislike! The plot was quite well thought out- considering that this is shounen and not seinen, anyway. Yako is such a strong character- there's no doubt that Neuro is brilliant and has unparalleled battle skills, but the story goes on to show that there is something just as important to an investigator- a heart and mind capable of understanding others. Also, I am incredibly thankful towards the author for not developing any kind of romance between Neuro and Yako- though some people probably expected it and was disappointed, I feel that it is completely unsuited to both of their characters, and would have ruined the feel of the story completely. I liked the ending too- it was nice to see how Yako had changed, and how Neuro himself had learned a lot from his experiences in the human world, but still hadn't lost his sadistic, egoistic nature. The art is really bizarre, and kind of ugly, but I like it. It's one-of-a-kind, and portrays the twisted, abnormal minds of killers very well. Recommended for anyone who's tired of the usual cliches that most shounen manga has to offer.

The characters are lovable, the plot is great, and the character development is awesome!
The art may irk you at the beginning, but it does get better to an extent. Personally, I didn't really care and thought it was really cool, in my opinion. It's different for the usual styles that I come across most of the time ^_^
Great read and I wish that I could give it a 1000/10 rating XD

I've been reading this series since only chapter one was out and it was by far one of the BEST mangas out there and you should read it because you will NEVER find another manga like this. It takes mystery to a whole new level and the main characters are unique in their own ways. Even if some people might not like the artwork, I personally don't mind it and even think that its a really good art style and not to mention even if you don't like the artwork you would be blown away by the storyline itself.
It's a must read and you definately won't regret it.

A must read manga. by vampirecabbit on June 7th, 2009, 12:01pm

This is possibly my favourite manga. One thing i love about it is it fits into almost no genre entirely. Its funny, psychotic, action, psychological and in a way mystery, and blends all this together fantastically. I say in a way mystery because the emphasis is usually less on figuring out the crime and more on the motivation of the criminal. Exploring what drives people to commit crimes and seeing their various motivations is fantastic, especially the variation from those who kill for stupid reasons and those who kill for great ones, to the point you truly sympathise with them. Its a real change from most detective stuff.
The Manga is filled with interesting characters, all of them beautifully filled out. The main villain for the majority of the manga is especially well done, a boy with amnesia who treats humans like his playthings as he trys to discover who he is, and his assistant whose roles are in complete contrast to Neuro and Yako's relationship.
I have actually bought the manga, but unfortunatly it was done far smaller than most so when you read it online its usually three or four times its real size so the resolution gets screwed. Despite this i adore Matsui's artwork. Whilst the majority is the standard affair, he then splits into this great style of surrealism every so often, which more than makes up for the fact he has to cut back a little on the rest early on in the manga to spend enough time on the important pages.
In conclusion, if you like a wide spectrum of unique and interesting well developed characters, a different kind of artwork and a manga that can be funny and tragic with pages difference, read this. If you dont want that, your a nut. |

I just gotta say the character creation: name, skills, abilities, design of this manga is by far one of the strongest i have read so far... It's amazing how the mangaka elaborates preety deep characters and awesome word games.

Slight decline, but still decent by AmishSamurai on February 14th, 2009, 11:52pm

My rating lowered because the entire Sicks arc has devolved the series into a Battle Manga at the moment. Also, there is usually very little evidence shown before Neuro's unveilings, though the manga-ka was getting better at that. Neuro and Yako's relationship is hilarious, as well as Neuro's psychotically huge ego. Better than most manga in Jump at the moment though.

Sadistic and Original by moonrabitt on February 9th, 2009, 4:31am

Don't confuse this for a "Conan" copy, it is not.Though at times the faces are creepy and disturbing, it's part of the story. It's hard to not love the story and relate to it, since enemies and even side characters often appear later on in other chapters. It's hard to not laugh at Neuro trough his different personalities disorders. Just like "Merlerna "advised to read chapter 138...Also try to read "168" for it too has really funny parts XD. And just when you think that the mange is getting serious, the author will throw some funny parts too.

Neuro is the best!!! by Merlerna on January 11th, 2009, 7:18pm

Truly, one of the coolest manga around. Sure, the mysteries could be better but hell, with Neuro as the detective or "assistant" it adds a very interesting appeal. The artworks at the beginning of the series aren't that pretty but later on it'll get better. If you guys wanna see how cool (and psychotic) Neuro is, I suggest reading Chapter 138: The Sadist. Neuro is someone you wouldn't want to mess with. ^^
