The story follows Tohno Shiki, a teenage boy who, after a near-fatal accident in his childhood, gained the mysterious power to perceive lines covering everything around him. When he cuts along these lines, whatever it was immediately falls apart with a clean cut; in other words, killing it. He would have quickly gone insane from living in a world that could fall apart so easily, had it not been for a wandering self-proclaimed magician who gave him a pair of glasses that blocked his unnatural perception when worn.

Soon afterwards, he was disinherited from his family and sent to live with some relatives. For eight years he lived a normal life, hiding his special eyes, until one day he receives a letter inviting him to come back home. Shiki suddenly becomes caught up in strange and life-threatening series of events, ones that are somehow linked to his childhood accident and a forgotten past...

Awesome series, recommended to anyone who's wondering which one to pick.
I keep this one on the wish list for a while 'cause the series seem to be dropped, but I did not expect it to be this good.
By the way, i have yet to watch the anime so no comment about that.

Based on the description. In fact if you haven't yet, don't read the description at all. It basically explains a plotline that's delivered slowly and artfully over like 6 whole volumes in 4 huge paragraphs.

And it gives you the wrong opinion about this manga. Or...if not the wrong opinion, at least the wrong idea of what the manga is like. The manga is about Shiki. Shiki is badass. He is so badass he's almost GAR at times.

End of story.

No need for huge explanations in the manga description.

The manga follows the game pretty closely. It is also a pretty decent series, though you might say recently its gotten a bit 'violent' but that was how it always was, in the game and the overall mood. none I like it, though I hope the author won't choose a bad ending O_o the ones from the game were too sad...

I agree. The characters in the manga have a lot more personality and are much more likeable, similar to the original game. In the anime, they are all dreadfully serious and it feels like one of those stories that emphasize symbolism.

I hope to one day have this series complete downloaded with translations from Japanese scans...cause the DrMaster scans are god awful (hell if they weren't I would just buy the books). The artwork is great as are the characters. Shiki is way way cooler in this than he is in the anime...he's just kinda a sissy in the anime.

I stated off by reading a bit of the manga before I watched some episodes from the anime. I have to say the manga leaves you with a much more satisfied feel in terms of character relation and development. The manga's protagnist Shiki has a much more kinder and much more accpeting tone of character. While the Shiki in anime has a colder and selfish attitude. I can recomend this manga because despite it's horror and action genre, it brings different tones to the story like comedy for instance so I give it an overall 9 thus far. I can also only hope that scanlation goes smoother and faster ; ;.
