Aya and her twin brother Aki thought they were going to a celebration of their sixteenth birthday at their grandfather's home, but the funeral-like atmosphere tips them off that something's not right. Their "birthday present" turns out to be a mummified hand--the power of which forces an awakening of unkown powers within Aya, and painful wounds all over Aki's body! Grandfather Mikage announces that Aki will be heir to the Mikage fortune, and Aya must die! But Aya has allies in the athletic cook and martial artist Yûhi, and the attractive, mysterious Touya. But can even two handsome and resourceful guys save Aya when it's her own power that's out of control?

In 1998 Ayashi no Ceres won the Shogakukan Manga Award for shoujo.

Ayashi no Ceres Gaiden included in 6th volume of Fushigi Yuugi: Genbu Kaiden.

Better than expected

With this series, Watase Yuu have surpassed herself. After recently having finished Fushigi Yuugi (and cursed it), I started reading Ayashi no Ceres without any expetations at all. I was only expecting just another boring nd unrealistic love story-manga and got blood, organisation, angst and death pushed into my face.
This is a series you got to read.

I loved this manga. It has a good balance of romance and sorrow with a good amount of action in it to keep cynics like me still enjoying every volume with well timed comic releif to prevent things getting too angst. While the love is exagerrated, as it is in all good love stories, I still found myself hooked by the plot line, which adapts so much you can't get tired of it. The plot is deep and there are a good number of characters to ensure every finds something of interest without things becoming too cluttered or confusing. A draw back is the weakness of the main character, she often cries which irritated me but suited her role as a victim. Other than that a very good manga even if, like me, romance isn't your genre of choice normally.

I read this series and loved it.I have to say it is one of my favorites. It made me cry so much.I also liked how the love triangle was turning every few seconds.I was surprised to see so much killing in this book.Sure I've read other books by her it's just a little different.I also liked the humor she added in.It really is a Horror Comedy Romance made in Heaven!

aya - the main female lead
13 volumes of either:

Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Aya getting a forced kiss
Aya having sex with touya
Aya getting raped minus the penetration
Aya asking for sex but somehow not ended up going all the way

For 13 volumes, her body was to satisfy every man's lust, whether they are good or bad men.

if you are into these kind of stuff, you will definitely love it

then theres the final volume for the revelations and conclusions, just to give it an end

it was weird, the title is so wrong, "Aya the
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Slut" wouldve been much better

The story could have been better.. and the holes in it were many, and always around the corner..
it started bad...went worse..AND suddenly everything and everybody went bananas, and it got interesting smile (lol im so cruel i only liked it when everybody was miserable), but the the whole:
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
"Honey guess what?, i'm half-fish kind of thing or i dunno really what i am kind of plot".. .-.- just was Hoorrible! and simply pathetic...i mean?? REALLY?...
is this finding Nemo mixed up with the little mermaid meet Darwin's evolutionist theory on drugs or what?! :haha:
didn't really get why the ocean was so involved on the past and birth of Tooya, but whatever -.-'

The love story..."all u need is love", <3 that's what they say, but this one just went DOWNHILL!
too fast, too FAKE and cheesy too my taste! , any pink-and-bubbly shoujo will be proud LOL,
no offense, i've had my share of shoujo, and i think i know the subject!
(and i can't believe i'm gonna say this but... i've seem BETTER shoujos! LOL
and that genre has his own failures! and BELIEVE ME! i've seen them all! sad ...
-.-' but my eyes were bleeding in this one! ...u know!! BLOOD!!! was coming out!, just by seing this poor excuse of.. (whatever it is that it is..) ¬¬'
and also just a little thing more to add..
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Aya is a whore, just a little prostitute :haha: and she's always naked! and that pisses me off!

and The characters... OMG!! where do i start to destroy?, i mean review them.. -.-' biggrin LOL!

the truth is that the girl is annoying, well...REALLY annoying.. AND stupid... AND makes more drama than a mexican soup opera!... :'(
the boyfriend has no feelings- then he has them- then he doesn't, then he doesn't know if he has them,... and so goes on and on...¬¬
(his brain is sooo f*ck up, that i'm surprised that he even remembers his name!)
and all the other characters just keep on dying!... so funny LOL!
cause everytime one of them dies it was like a scene on a bad drama movie like (when they kill the girlfriend of the protagonist and he just kneels on the ground and looks up into the sky in the middle of a lonely streat, (with pouring rain of course), and screaammmsss "WHYYYY?? ooohhhh whyyyy??" -.-' ... and latter the tippical "take me instead"- kind of crap?...¬¬
weeeeeell eeevery time !! damn!! soooo stupid!! but i laughed when it happened so.. i won't complain laugh )

the truth is that i imagined that they will
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
got her pregnant around the 56 episode...
so.. i promised myself that if that happened, i would take the little dignity that got left (for thinking this was a good series), and skip the whole thing to the end,
just to satisfy my obssessive complex of not letting anything ever without finish..
And so i did.. and i must say i'm not more happy or proud of myself..

Mental note: not see ANY series you think is stupid, because it probably is girl!! listen 2 urself!

I personally loved this story, it had value that I had not found for a long time. Through out most the manga I was really shocked and relieved. I had lost interest in a couple of sections but struggled to read on. In the end it left me in tears, and joy. When I look back at this manga I will always probably remember not to take life for granted.

I don't like this manga at all. It's very boring but i guess it is because I am getting bored of the shojo cliches. Anyway, this manga is very fast paced. No real developments between the characters. It was like.. really really fast.

I had seen the anime first so because of that i was not much surprised with how things would turn out. In fact i thought this to be a great read and it was a pretty well made anime because it followed the manga very closely.....That being said though i really wanted, not for the ending to be different because i thought it fit well with the manga, but for something more at the end that would let us know exactly what happened after her leading man disappeared.

I sometimes found Ayashi no Ceres hard to bear, but when Watase-sama spun all the aspects together, with just a hint of comedic relief by Q-san, it was a very enjoyable manga. Beware violence and sexual themes... *blushes scarlet*
