Onani means masturbation. And that's what this guy is good at. Every day after school, he sneaks into the mostly unused girls bathroom on the 3rd floor, and masturbates. Until one day, when he's caught by a bullied girl with a hidden agenda. This is a story of mistakes, redemption, and the choices made in between. It contains the worst and best of the human condition.

It was good.
It was 3am in the morning. I was listening to some anime tunes on YouTube, and of course, needed to read something to pass along my time. I had previously overlooked this series once before based upon the fact that it didn't have what I had been looking for (ecchiness, you know, whatever I was in the mood for, etc.) and I decided to just try it and see how it'd do... I never went to sleep.
Now, for the whole sha-bang: Art was kinda funky to look at initially, but you really do get used to it after a couple chapters in. The characters were great (though I kinda wanted to punch one specific antagonist in the face all throughout the beginning, just because she NEEDED IT).

I rather liked how Nagaoka stuck with Kurosawa throughout the entirety of the storyline, whether Kurosawa wanted him around or not. (PS: I died when Nagaoka began dating Takagawa. Looking at it much later, perhaps it was better that way; but I was wholeheartedly rooting for Kurosawa (perhaps because I can identify with THAT situation really well...).
-The main character's sadism annoyed me, mostly because he had that bleak outlook I can recall from my past encounters with some of those types of people.
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
The protagonist changes from an antisocial sadist (pervert) into a reformed good-natured individual through his interactions with others. As I just mentioned, you WILL love the difference!
What started as an excuse for leisure turned out to be an awesome experience I may not forget. I could be exaggerant, but I do recommend this for anyone with a levelheaded maturity!

Forever a Favorite
This manga uses a sketch style and uses a very odd subject to base this story around. but nevertheless, this manga comes out amazing in the short 30 chapters it has. There are several references in the beginning to parody other manga series, but later it becomes a very engrossing read.
Throughout the course of the story, you may find it similar to books like "Catcher in the Rye" (It even makes a reference to it once). Kurosawa believes everyone around him is insignificant or an idiot aside from a select few. But something separates the two books from one another, and that is what Kurosawa does when he comes to realize the errors of his ways of thinking.
Onani Master Kurosawa portrays the raw emotions of the characters incredibly well and will keep you entertained through all the chapters. This manga shows the best and worst of human nature. It is a captivating story of youth, mistakes, repentance, and redemption. So don't judge it based on the sour topic it revolves around. Read it and be amazed.
A bit of an exaggeration
Put it off after reading the beginning for a very long time... now I finally read it all. Main reasons I put it off is due to the gloomy main character, annoying side character and the pathetic reoccurring female character. Also, the art is really unbearable.
Due to it being critically acclaimed and the continuous rave reviews, I decided to grow up and read it. The story and the protagonist did do a 180 degree turnabout somewhere near the middle, and it just gave off a good feeling. That's all.
Nothing to be jumping up and down about, not the best manga ever. If I remember it, it'll be because of the unusual concept.
If you can pull through the beginning, it's worth it. If not, no big deal.

Not for me
I can't describe it very good, but I think there's something very wrong this manga. Something is just very off. Sure it was unique, but it didn't quite deliver a definite moral or lesson like you'd expect with a subject like this. It tries to be realistic, but in my opinion it just blatantly fails at being so. Maybe I'm just too used to sugarcoated manga, but this wasn't my thing at all.

It was... orgasmic
I wasn't expecting much from this manga. A lot of manga are drawn out too long just because they are popular, and a lot of really good manga are canceled too soon before they hit their stride. Fortunately, Onani Master was neither; it was just the right length: It tells a story from beginning to end and then stops. And it's a great story that everyone can relate to. After all, everyone has experienced jealousy, bullying (a little or a lot), and the conflict between wanting to isolate and wanting to relate to others. Oh yeah... and everyone masturbates.
The plot is so different from any other manga so it is a big plus. There are no ecchi scenes or anything like this in the manga so no worries. The character development for the main character is really great. You get to see how he changes in the manga. I thought the manga was not as realistic as people as it is so I did not give it a 9. Overall it is a great manga and read it.
Forever in my top 5
This is one of the greatest mangas ever written. It is for mature readers and has lots of complex and mature themes, so if you are looking for anything like One Piece, Full Metal Alchemist, or even Ai Yori Aoshi, you are not going to get it. This pretty much defines a psychological manga. The category tags say it all. This manga literally changed my life.
Don't be embarassed by masturbation and echi
These are only facade to manga's events. Why read? 1. Incredible humour in the beginning - author parodies such mangas like Death Note, Code Geass Pfff... Fap Note))) You MUST read the first volume at least 2. Jealousy, revenge, guilt, depression. Repentance, finding one's own way - man, I was MOVED! I fell in love with girl protag liked - thanks to art - , i felt all the jealousy and guilt protag felt But the most greatest part is when he repents for all his sins (yeah, I was rooting for him with all my heart), his way acting adultly when everyone started bullying him, support of that afrohair boy - I almost cried when I saw how kind and forgiving people can be.. Man, it was the most wonderful character growth I've ever seen.. I want read more, more something like that!! What about this manga weaknesses: mmmm... there are no such stuff here I guess. A decent mixture of comedy and drama, liked it very much. 10 of 10
best part - is the middle
This manga is about relationships between classmates - and that is what passed me by when I was schooler myself. I was never really involved in such relationships, I never attended those class reunions after graduating school. That's why I wasn't imbued with vol.4. But 1-3 volumes were interesting.. 3 volume touched me deeply. Also, I 'm fond of Nagaoka x Katagawa pair - they are cute ^_^v. I would prefer to know more about them. Persons like Kitahara are rather dangerous.. they are like drowning men - when you try to save them, they hold onto you, climb on you to save themselves, thus drowning you too. If you don't help them, they despise and criticize you.
After so many people recommending me to read this manga, I've finally taken the time to read it. To be honest, I was a bit disappointed based on all that I had heard about it. I had higher expectations, that's all. It's a great "slice-of-life", that's for sure. But before the major tone change in the manga, I felt so uncomfortable more than just because it's about masturbation. I just didn't... relate to the characters in the slightest. Perhaps it's because I'm female, or because I didn't really go through what the characters did, that I can't base how I feel about it. Still, it's a great character study about growing up, realizing your mistakes, and leaving the past behind you. If you're not put off by the theme of the manga, give it a try.
