Insult to any woman
I couldn't stand this manga and couldn't finish it. I wanted to find out why it was so popular and cannot even begin to fathom why any woman would even begin to enjoy reading this. It is a serious insult to any independent and thinking woman out there who has any amount of respect for herself. I know I shouldn't expect much from a feministic standpoint when I read mangas, but this was beyond horrific. The heroine was disgustingly pathetic and the man she falls for is even worse, I guess they sort of deserve each other in a sick sense of poetic justice but still, this sickened me. It really bothers me that people actually read this and enjoy it, I mean come on women! Where's your sense of pride, dignity, and self-respect? Making abuse/rape seem acceptable is grotesque and abhorrent. I cannot express my hatred for this manga enough.
I realize that this is a piece of fiction, but the normalization of submissive women and the general affirmation of kyriocentric thought is extremely disheartening. What some people don't seem to realize is that even while you think you are escaping into a piece of fiction, you are being molded and indoctrinated into that society's expectations.

worst manga ever
complete waste of time. There is no logic in story. No character development, stupid, nonsense plot.... the main guy is an asshole (one of the types that have potential to beat his wife). And the main girl is just not standing up herself in anything. I was really disturbed while reading it. Don't read it if you don't want to be sorry for reading it.
I totally with everyone that had rated this manga bad, especially yblees! Total rubbish, ugly art, girl that can't stand up for herself, can't think for herself and I am seriously doubting what common sense / moral code she is bought up with! Insult to all females!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
really awful i couldn't finish
it is a sluttier version of hana yori dango,i couldn't finish this manga it was soo bad...The main character can't make descions for her self. The guy ryoki is awful and as far as i can tell is only interested in her for her body, and because she is easy to boss around. There is no actual chemistry between them i don't know why they say they are in love. the brother is a wimp, some will say that he is sweet like a devoted puppy in how much he loves her, but he just bothered me in how much of a cloud of selfishness and depression he was. the plot was soo predictable there were absolutly no suprises
and this for those of you who care, i wish i would have known before i started reading otherwise i wouldn't have read it.
Spoiler (highlight to view)
im not absolutly positive becasue i didn't finish, but this is where i stopped reading.... Im 99% sure that the main character sleeps (and looses her virginity) with her adopted brother. who is not the guy she ends up with. for me i can't read a story where the main girl sleeps with more then one guy. because it is my firm belief that you should only do that kind of thing with your soul mate. i think the worst part was she didn't even love him that way she just did it to ease her pain becasue she was jelouse. which in my book wuld make her a slut :(
Definitely! In fact I went out and bought a copy right after reading this the first time. And the more I re-read it, the better I think it gets - go figure. I want my kids to read it too - when they're a little older of course.
It's like "Gossip Girl" but even more questionable. That's right, I just compared this manga to a guilty pleasure TV show. I mean it's called "Hot Gimmick" and this series is pretty chock full of them...And it works. I enjoyed this much more than I should have and I can't even call it "good" for sure. Worth reading if you are comfortable with never admitting afterwards in public that you read it.

she really did settle for the jerk. if he would have changed dramatically much, maybe just maybe it wouldnt hurt that she chose him. it pities me to see her *brother going into being a monk just to stay away from her so things would be alright for her.
wow.. maybe shes just into relationships that are dysfunctional, getting slapped and all.
As terrible as the other reviews say it is
I read everything except the last volume because I just couldn't go any further. If it had just ended at volume 11 it wouldn't have been so bad, but Hatsumi just couldn't let go and insisted on choosing the jerk.
The art is mediocre, the characters are done really poorly (especially the two main characters), the storyline is cliched and it's not executed well enough to make it worth of reading.
Just don't bother reading this. I read all the warnings against it but I was bored and wanted to read some fluff. It ended up being a complete waste of my day. Seriously, just close out this tab now and go back to the releases page and find something else to read.

err kinda disturbing
I find it really unhealthy how he does all these horrible things to her but she still stands by him. I mean it wasn't even tsundere ryoki is a jerk and not attractive at all. Getting taken advantage of by a nerd. Kinda sad.
One of my favorites!
Ah, everyone is going to think I'm super weaksauce, I'll admit, I cried a few times reading this. I was able to immerse myself completely into their lives and I could really connect with the characters, I think that's what makes any piece of writing great. That onii-chan, how can anybody's heart not break for him? He's so sweet, caring, self-less, humble, devoted, SO CUTE, amazing, smart.... haha okay I need to stop. Everytime I see his face, I just want to give him a hug and take away all of his pain. Poor guy. I actually really liked the ending where he wanted to go to the monastery because he couldn't stop loving Hatsumi. It sucks balls for him, but it just goes to show how much he loved her, and that there was absolutely no way for him to stop loving her. He couldn't forgive himself for his feelings, and that he was unable to stay by her side, so the only thing for him to do is to become a monk, as punishment. I was bawling but I thought it was really meaningful. And there WAS character development! Hatsumi grew to be able to make an important decision for herself when she chose who to be with, despite Ryoki always telling her what to do. Ryoki, who grew up as a spoiled but lonely only child, learned to make compromises, and that he can't use force alone to get what he loves. Akane was mean to Hatsumi at first, and didn't take sex seriously, until she met someone she truly likes, and at the end where she comforts Hatsumi showed that she is starting to mature. I give it a 10 because the story didn't have random, useless crap characters/events that were introduced once, and never appeared again. In a way, everything is tied together, and there was meaning behind all that happened. Ahhh I LOVED it, from the start to the end. So good so good!
