In a small town in the countryside, close to the sea, a young high-school girl lived alone with her cousin. When life seemed to her too painful and too sad, she contemplated the sky and refreshed herself by looking at the stars. But one spring night, she met a boy who sealed her destiny...

STOP THE COMPARISIONS!!!
I don't understand why everyone is comparing Hoshi wa Utau with Furuba- for one thing, it's about a completely different subject matter and does not have any fantasy elements!! Please try and consider this manga seperately and give time for the plot to unfold. Try not to judge it by the mangaka's previous and more famous work! Okay, enough of my rant there...but seriously people!! I believe this manga ahs a alot of potential and I like the way how in each chapter we discover something new about each character- it's feels like you're reading a jigsaw puzzle and with each chapter you find a new piece and you're closer to completing the story!
So-so for now
This work seems like it may end short, Takaya creates a lot of unanswered questions and only makes things clear towards the latter half of the chapters. This work does seem like a side story within Furuba, and characters do have resemblances to each other.
Takaya does create confusion for the reader for most part of these beginning chapters, and her comedy is lack, while there is more drama. Overall, I think the manga so far is a read when there is nothing more to read, but I have to hold off giving my full critique until vol. 1 is done.
I like it even though I was confused
I've read up to chapter 14 but it took me up 'till now to realize why Chihiro "hates" Sakuya! Before it was really bothering me that she was obviously head over heels for him but he was oddly cold to her while the only thing she did to him was worry on his behalf. Still, I really like it and chapter 14 cleared up a lot of confusion with Chihiro. I still miss Fruits Basket and was kind of expecting Hoshi wa Utau to replace that void in my life and it's almost working. Everything is really interesting and Natsuki Takaya draws really well
Fruits Basket 2???
Basically, it feels like the later volumes of Fruits Basket. Drama and angst galore, little comedy. Even the characters seem the same, with little tweaks to their personalities here and there to make them "original". The main characters are very similar, and even Sakuya's two friends remind me of Tohru's two friends.
Despite being a huge FB fan and a Takaya fan, I'm having a problem reading this series. I don't care for the protagonist and I absolutely hate her love interest. Her funny and cute friend likes her but she's oblivious and follows Chihiro like a lost puppy, despite the fact that he's unnecessarily cruel to her. Why do shoujo girls always go for the total jerk

Lots of potential
I've only read the first volume, but it has been rather good so far. Nice art, nice plot, and it definitely has the potential to develop into something very captivating. Worth a read!
there R definately some similarities to Furuba, and yes Chihiro reminded me of Kyo in the begining, not so much now, and Kanade kinda reminds me of Shigure, but anyway, in every chapter there's a cliff hanger so it keeps u interested(well @ least it keeps me interested) but if it was about unrequited love, it seems Chihiro is warming up to Sakuya dont u think? and what's up w/ Sei(Hijiri)? What's her game? She says she's nice to Saku but it sees she has a hidden agenda that might not be a good thing 4 Saku.... well Im still bothered by the fact that Chihiro seems to be warming up to Saku, I think Saku and Yuuri look a lot cuter together, besides Yuuri does so much 4 Saku, and well Chihiro hasn't really done all that much 4 Saku, but I trust Takaya that she will do an awesome story and have Saku realize just how great Yuuri really is...
And I was greatly disappointed in that regards...Saku did realize how awesome Yuuri is and cried... I kinda stopped enjoying the story after about volume 7-8, I just didn't feel the chemistry between the main couple, to me it was non-existent.

Very cute. The story is not the best but it's good, the art is realy pretty(shme that the scans are poor..) a little wierd at times but it has potenial.
Edit: I'm on chapter 17, and I can say I really enjoy it so far. There is even character development with both of the leads. Some drama, with Sakuya's sweetness^^

for some reasong i keep imagining some characters as some from fruits basket. like chihiro can sometimes be like kyo...ot hatsuharu (epsecially in ch 11 with the random hug xD)
it's a very slow but interesting story. it keeps me in the edge becuase it's so unpredictable. the characters each have a different personality that keeps the whole flow of the story balanced. (sorry if i don't make any sense)
so far, i give it a 10/10
sad story yet im reading it
Natsuki Takaya-san is really good in flashback parts..just like in hoshi wa utau,we are now introduced with Chihiro's past and his true love.. which somehow the unrequited love will finally surface its lonely head.i just hope it's a happy ending in the end.

Interesting. Very bittersweet. Kyo anyone? Definitely Chihiro. (I'm not complaining there!) It's not just some characters, a lot of the characters resemble Furuba. But she doesn't mind drawing characters that look alike, I think one time she said she liked it? I'm not sure, it was in one of the Furuba novels. She got really sad when someone said she drew her characters like someone else had. But anyway...A story about "unrequited love"? That's a bit discouraging.....after reading Chapter 10, I don't really know what to think. Chihiro is very peculiar. The dialogue is very thick. The drawings are amazing. <3
