Makunochi Ippo is an ordinary high school student in Japan. Since he spends most of his time away from school helping his mother run the family business, he doesn't get to enjoy his younger years like most teenagers. Always a target for bullying at school, Ippo's life is one of hardship. One of these after-school bullying sessions turns Ippo's life around for the better, as he is saved by a boxer named Takamura. He decides to follow in Takamura's footsteps and train to become a boxer, giving his life direction and purpose. Ippo's path to perfecting his pugilistic prowess is just beginning.

One of the best manga there are. It has a lot of volumes but I just can say thanks for being able to read so much of a manga that I like.
The series gets better and better the more chapters that pass.
You'll like it for sure if you just like reading manga. It really doesn't matter if you don't like boxing.

You could probably read full reviews elsewhere, I just felt that this manga deserved yet another 10.

If I where to make a list of must-read manga for any new otaku, this would definantly be on it. If I where to also make a list of the best, this would on that aswell. The pacing of the manga is very interesting. It keeps you glued to each page and to every volume with its great story. The fact that the series is still going should impress everyone. I humbly tip my hat to the manga-ka for keeping things freash after so long.

Now that the good parts out of the way, let me get to the bad. Sometimes this manga tends to drag on, and sometimes the fights can drag on too long. Its interesting to note that alot of the important fights are done over many chapters, however some characters fights take one or so chapters, while others could take a few pages. The author's choices in which ones go longer and shorter are quite interesting. Established characters sometimes have short fights, and new ones can have longer fights. It seems quite akward to me.

Other than that, this manga is just short of perfect. However, it's not for everyone. Still, I have yet to read a sports manga that I didn't like. Whether or not I like the actual sport, manga always makes it better, in my opinion.

I will personally give massive credit to ANY company that winds up liscensing this, as to support it would take quite an investment.

I can't believe I'm still reading this after sooo many volumes! And even better is that I keep waiting for the new chapters to come out. It is an amazing sports manga. All credit to the mangaka for being able to continue such a great story even after 15 years since he started :)
