Makunochi Ippo is an ordinary high school student in Japan. Since he spends most of his time away from school helping his mother run the family business, he doesn't get to enjoy his younger years like most teenagers. Always a target for bullying at school, Ippo's life is one of hardship. One of these after-school bullying sessions turns Ippo's life around for the better, as he is saved by a boxer named Takamura. He decides to follow in Takamura's footsteps and train to become a boxer, giving his life direction and purpose. Ippo's path to perfecting his pugilistic prowess is just beginning.

I can't believe I'm still reading this after sooo many volumes! And even better is that I keep waiting for the new chapters to come out. It is an amazing sports manga. All credit to the mangaka for being able to continue such a great story even after 15 years since he started :)

The best manga ever.

As simple as that. To be frank, the artwork in the beginning is rather bad. But as the volume progress, it becomes so good.

Especially when fighthing. It's just... so... COOL!

This manga has excellent story, characters, and most importantly: humor. I simply love it. I lost count the number of times I almost fell out of my chair because I laughed so far.

I wasnt a boxing fan until I read this. It's that good!

This is by far the best manga I have ever read. The story is truly addicting. My computer hasn't been off in weeks downloading this thing.

The anime leaves off around volume 35, so start checking it out from there.

Even with it's repetition, it still has one of the best stories to tell. Truly uplifiting. Straight forward with wonderful characters. These are the characters you keep.

There's no other manga quite like this one. A shame to miss.

I think people rate this manga too high. Some of the fights in this manga have nothing to do with the main plot and some fights are pointless. The characters go down and back up around 50 times. Even though I said that I have to admit that the manga has a lot of good points (humour, most of the fights, romance, and a moving story). But its more than EIGHTY VOLUMES AND IS RUNNING.
