Brilliant and overachieving, Misaki Ayuzawa is the President of the Student Council at Seika High School, formerly a boys' school. Unfortunately, most of the students are still male and stuck in their slovenly habits, so man-hating Misaki really socks it to 'em in an attempt to make the school presentable to attract more female students. But what will she do when the sexiest boy in school finds out that after school, Misaki works in a maid cafe.
Also included in this manga is a short story called Toumei na Sekai in volume one.

Lost the love...
I would've rated this a ten when I started reading it because it was one of those amazing mangas that got me really hooked...I'd even read until 3am even though I had class at 9 in the morning or had papers to do when I first started reading a couple of years back.
Looking back, it feels nostalgic and all, it was a really good shoujo that kind of gave off the same feel as SA...then I got bored. I dunno whats wrong with me but remembering how excited I was whenever I clicked to the next page and was like 'OMGOMGOMGOMGOMG!!!' and fangirl-ing like crazy, I'm seriously asking myself what the heck happened?
It was great at the start and had me on a shoujo high and I couldn't wait to read the latest chapter but then it somehow became a chore to read from chapter forty-something onward. I love Misaki and Usui and all and I'll always remember loving their hilarious romantic development. Usui's possessiveness and Misaki, the strong-willed tsundere...loved it.
And then that was it. I couldn't get myself to love the plot anymore. Cliches kept popping up. Don't get me wrong, I'm okay with cliches since it depends on how the author can use it to his/her advantage and how it is applied, how the characters are worked out. And it's pretty hard to avoid writing a cliche.
Usui is perfect. He's one of the many 'Edward Cullen's in the manga world minus the fangs and general emo-ness. I loved it at first but then it got boring. His only so called "flaw" is his possessiveness, making him even hotter/perfect-er (is that even possible?). Who wouldn't want the perfect dude monopolizing them anyway? His past is sad and has family complications and all that drama...which only adds to his allure I guess while not exactly affecting his perfectness.
One thing that got me reading this manga was 1) art and 2) Misaki's kickass self. I loved that she's so tough and all coz me no like those wimpy ass crybabies you may find in your average shoujo but I have to admit her tsundere-ness started to tick me off after some time. I just keep wondering what if Misaki suddenly became equally as agressive as Usui and then Usui would be the one all flustered, not knowing what to do. That would have been hilarious to see and I would've loved Usui more.
Sigh, even after they got through the whole 'Usui, I like you too' thing with Misaki, that was it. No more development. No more character growth (if there even was other than Misaki accepting her feelings for Usui). Only the usual plot devices trying to come in between their love. Plot devices from Usui's past, if I may add. Was his past just that? Something used for the plot to get going?
Sorry, long review. But for those just starting, this is a GREAT shoujo for you. Don't mind the nitpicking. It has good art and basically good characters and the plot fairs well.
Edit: I plan to reread this as others have recommended. I'm sure I'm gonna love it all over again and I hope it will stay that way and I'll be able to give this a ten.

i really enjoyed it, until....
this manga is one that i recommended to my friends but now im so dissapointed with the latest chapters. at first it's a good opening with tsundere misaki that has strong personality and has no fear among the boys and even she handles to be a council president and i love usui that could make misaki insulted and flirted her with his jokes and how awesome misaki to be cool man and make usui amazed to her. it's sooooo good , even though they have no an exact relationship at least the reader cpuld see how strong their relationship. i was so happy with this manga until usui and misaki started going out. few chapter after vol 7 is just BLEH. kiss here and there all chapters has their kiss moment and what i think is: IS THIS SMUT MANGA I WONDER and when i thought it's time for misaki to shine (im pretty looking forward for her past that makes her hate men so much) and thisbut then after im waiting so long.. i cant find any hint that will show that misaki's past will be told so i made a conclusion that this manga manga is ONLY oriented to usui, even though misaki is the main character. to be honest, because of that i started to hate this manga that like boasting only usui that's just too perfect that makes it so boring afterward. misaki as the main character is just too tsundere and in newest chapters i am completely annoyed with her who always blushing when she is with usui. i want old misaki come back. i dont want story about usui usui usui anymore. getting tired. im gonna drop this series.
Just have to say it...
I must admit first that i'm from Chile and my english is pretty lame or maybe worst so i'm sorry if i can't explain myself very well. I actually register only because i wanted to comment about this manga because i read almost all the comments and i just felt the need to say something. I'm a shoujo manga fan, and i have already lost count of how many i have read. I first saw the anime of Kaichou Wa Maid Sama and i just felt in love, from that moment i became obsses of anime/manga shoujo. As i keep reading shoujo mangas i started feel a little disapointed because the female leads were becoming weaker and weaker to the point that i just start heating them. In my opinion Misaki is a female lead that is one of a kind, she has always been independet there were nobody who helped her, she always thought that the only person she need to keep going was her, until the day she met Usui. Usui was the first person who try helping her and become close to her but because of Misaki personality she was very confuse so she always were thinking that he was teasing her. Usui was in love and for that reason he didn't gave up to Misaki, thats why he is the only guy who can really be with Misaki, not because he is handsome or smart or strong only because he didn't give up. I have to admit that i'm sooo tired of the cold, indifferent, mean male lade that i just dont know how makes the female lead to felt in love, maybe Usui is too perfect but is more realistic that Misaki felt in love with him than a cold and mean guy, because she is actually a SMART female lead not like others that have a masochist personality and falls in love with a guy that treats them like sh*t this unreal situation happens in soo many mangas and i just hate it, honestly. Ugh i have the feeling that i'm making a lots of grammar mistakes but i just will keep going anyway. I don't understand the people who finds Misaki annoying, i mean whats annoying about her? i found her soo adorable she is the kind of girl who is not looking falling in love (like most of the girls in shoujo mangas) she have more important things to do but little by little Usui is becoming a very important person to her so is obvious that she blushes a lot because she is not used to open her heart to people and Usui knows that. I don't think that she is weaker when she is with Usui on the contrary i think she tries to be even more strong and independent and so in the few moments when she actually shows her weak and in love side you just feel the need to hug her!!. The last thing to say is that this manga make me laugh so much especially the anime (chibi Usui!!) that my stomach hurt like for a week. So my conclusion is if you are tired of weak and whinnig girls, of love histories that you just can't buy, of the bad guy/good girl cliche Kaichou Wa Maid Sama maybe is your shoujo manga.
I dont like it :(
I,too, remember when i was reading like 'OMG what's gonna happen next??!!!!' and it was irritating to wait for the next page to appear! When i arrived around chapter 50, i kinda got less time to read mangas, but now i have plenty of time and when i re read it, it became boring and cliched! Misaki was a strong female character, but is no more! She blushes here and there IN EVERY CHAPTER! and it gets damn annoying!!! seriously, there's a limit of how much you can blush in a chapter -.- Usui was cool and hot before but now, usui is like MR PERFECT! Geez, you see guys like that in almost all shoujo mangas! He too blushes too much! -If i knew 'love' would make someone 'strong to weak', then i better not fall in love for a moment I remember when Usui left a mark on Misaki's back so that she could not wear a swimsuit. I was like 'Kyaaaaaaaaaaaaaa~~~~~ *dies of fangasm*' but now it has no effect Also, why must they kiss in almost every chapter !! it makes it kinda annoying Too much blushies, kisses, I Love You's etc I dropped it....
All in all, just like almost all shoujos, it went up and up and suddenly fell down to restart. 1/10

Giving me so much hope and WHAM
I was actually excited when I see Misaki as a strong and smart female lead. She's cool and gives me sooo much hope with her character, her character didn't change even till the last chapter (65)..but I hate the fact that she became weak when it comes to Usui. Also,Usui was really perfect that it annoys me,I prefer Misaki to be with You-kun. Geh,dropped it on chapter 35. It has lots of great scenes, and good potentials. I just can't stand the characters. Their slow romance doesn't feel real. She fell for him because he's kind, caring, sweet, smart, always protects her,and another perfect personalities blah blah but that's it.. and I thought that this is gonna be good so I kept reading it. Usually I would go all "OMG! OMG! FOR REAL! KYAA!" when it comes to kiss scene but when they kissed I continued reading till the next chapter with a damn straight face.
Why is it that almost all mangas were like this. At first the girl was bad-ass then the guy came, teased her, helped her, blah blah blah and then she became soooo weak and depends on that guy a lot. Geh. I'd say I prefer Penguin Brothers, though the ending wasn't really satisfying but I kind of understand why the mangaka did that.
First of all, the art is great. However I just can't bring myself to like it no matter what. I don't know why. It's just that I really hate guys who is too overly... Perfect? Like there's no flaws. Misaki is also the girl I really don't like. She interests me at first seeing her so strong and different from the other girls, but when it comes to Usui, aish... She turned to a normal girl to me. I really don't like the feeling? Well, it's not bad but the story really bore me! Sorry guys! ):
My Favourite Manga Ever.
I am obsessed with this manga, cute and funny is the best mix <3 Seriously in love with everything about it, the love trianges, rivalry, emotions, everything a romance lover like me could hope for! People if you haven't read it, you're missing out, it's awesome! I ended up buying the volumes and still waiting for the next one to come out even though I've read it hundreds of times :'D I'm also thinking of buying the anime version too just to complete my little maid sama collection! Anyway about the manga, people saying the love development was fast?! Totally incorrect. In fact it's the complete oppesite! But even so we are given so many cute moments that should make up for it! Anyway what are you doing still reading this?! You should be reading this manga by now! Go go go! :L
I guess this story should more focus on the past of usui. I totally wondering about it since he chapter 50's something. but im kinda excited to see the character development of MIsaki... kih kih3~
After multiple failed attempts to read this, Iíve given up. All my friends were raving about how kickass Misaki is, but it was after reading Kaichou that I realized I hate tsunderes, or any characters who pretend to feel a certain way when itís painfully obvious they feel the opposite. Seriously, itís annoying as hell. Misaki may be ďtoughĒ on the outside, but she never truly gained my respect and has somewhat of an overrated reputation. All she ever does is blush in front of Usui telling him heís an idiot. Sheís also seriously underdeveloped with an unexplored past, which is not good considering sheís the main lead. But it doesnít stop there.
I am probably the only girl who dislikes Usui. Maybe just the way he treats her. It seems like heís all that, cool, badass, sexy, rich, suave ect on the outside, but his demeanor bores me. He comes across as rather teasing but not all together that emotional or deep. I see no vulnerable moments - itís always Misaki being bullied or teased ect. Their entire dynamic really confounds me and Iím surprised itís been able to work thus far. A lot of this manga is really random and the slice-of-life drama just goes on and on until you get to Usuiís past which is a good change, but what about Misakiís development? I mean, thereís barely any plot. As for the humor, itís not my type, but you may find it hilarious. The art is rather good though not the best but for shoujo lovers (sometimes I think I fall more into the shoujo critic category), this is probably a good bet for you, if you donít have my pet peeves about the characters.
I liked the idea and the art (I don't read a manga unless the art is good) however the fact that Usui is "Mr. Perfect" and that Misaki has always to rely on him for help is getting old. Also the charatcers need more development. It's not bad but not good either.
