Normally I find that it's really obvious who the protagonist is going to end up with in shoujo manga, which is kind of boring a lot of the time. Any suggestions for manga with unpredictable pairings please (aka you were surprised at/couldn't figure out the end pairing)?

Thanks in advance.

I don't read that many shoujos but Mint na Bokura surprised me at the end. But the couple I was surprised with wasn't the main focus, the girl was still a main character though. It's a long read but if you get into it, you'll probably finish it within one day. I did. It's really cute and funny too. ^__^

Not sure but I'm probably the only one who found the ending for Peach Girl surprising. Just a warning to you: a lot of drama and you're in for a roller coaster ride with this one. But I know I loved the ending so it was worth the long and dramatic read.

Moe Kare!! was also an excellent read. I didn't know who she was going to end up with but I still loved her choice in the end. Very cute and has its funny moments. ^__^

~All I can think of for now. I'll edit later if I remember other titles.

Seito Shokun!
but I'm afraid there's no scanlation of this manga. Art a bit outdated but story is surprisingly good and related to life 🙂

If you've ever thought or said "Nice Guys finish last" and really meant it, then you should probably read this LJ post by DivaLion. It's incredibly insightful whether you're male or female.

Try Atashi wa Bambi, it fits really well.

Not really unpredictable... but try these:

Utopia of Homosexuality, if you don't mind a bit of shounen-ai and shoujo-ai.

Polite bump.

Any more suggestions for this topic? I'm looking for shoujo or josei (no BL or smut) where the girl does not end up with first guy. Cat Street (which I loved!) is a good example of this, and so is Peach Girl (not so much love here; Sae was too annoying).

I read spoilers of Strobe Edge because

I really really thought Ninako would choose Andou in the end, and I'm disappointed she didn't. It would have been a better manga if the mangaka took that route instead of Ren. boo.

So now I'm looking for mangas where the second lead wins, or at least it's unpredictable. I want something like this thread, only with shoujo/josei not shounen. I guess it doesn't matter if the protagonist is male or female, as long as the genre fits.
