A while ago I read a bit of a manga online that was a dark version of Snow White. (Actually, it was relatively close to the original story.) The art was gorgeous, but some bits of it put me off, so I stopped reading it. I'd like to find it again, though. Has anyone heard of it?

Snow White in this is an incredibly beautiful girl who surpassed her mother in beauty at the age of seven, at which age she began sleeping with her dad. And pretty much everyone else. Her mother found the king's watch in her room when she was around 11 and figured everything out, causing her to hire someone to kill her. It was a good-hearted (compared to everyone else in the area, at least) woodcutter guy who was completely in love with the Snow White character and tried to rape her. I think that's as far as I got.

It isn't a hentai at all, although it does sound like it. I think it may be a manhwa, but I'm not sure.

That's it! =D Wow, thanks so much!
I was only 12 when I read it the first time, although I loved dark versions of fairy tales then as well I have a stronger stomach now. I'm definitely reading it again.

Well it has nothing to do with manga/anime, but if you like alternate versions of fairytales you should try "Happily N'Ever After 1" and its sequel "Happily N'Ever After 2: Snow White Another Bite @ the Apple". really funny. just give it a try.

PS: for some reason I can't paste the link, but you can find info on wikipedia.

I've actually watched both those movies - with my 8-year-old sister. They're cute, but I prefer more mature, older-oriented stuff.

If you're interested in other dark versions of fairy tales, there's always this dark take on Little Red Riding Hood.

Wow, thanks for that, it looks gorgeous! I was afraid that your suggestion would be the batshit insane lolicon eroguro vore hentai take on Little Red Riding Hood I accidentally stumbled across one fine day.

Robin McKinley's SUNSHINE is one of her various Beauty and the Beast retellings, although I wouldn't say it's romance, precisely, although the tension is there. DEERSKIN, requiring a somewhat stronger stomach, is a retelling of an obscure fairy tale named "Donkeyskin." She's a great author, if quite possibly not what you're looking for.
