New Manga Site Offers Scanlation-like Service, Detective Conan Ending? and More...

New Rival to Scanlation?: A new site called Manganovel has been launched by Toshiba Corporation. The new service provides Japanese manga to its readers, who can then translate the manga into another language, either for free or for a small amount of fee as "reader-translators". Will this new service affect the world of scanlation?

Detective Conan to End? Goushou Aoyama hinted during an interview with Sankei Shimbun that Detective Conan (also known as Case Closed) may be ending soon.

Light Novels to be Adapted into Anime: Three of MediaWorks' light novel series will be animated. They are: "Alison" and its follow-up "Lilia and Trais" by Keiichi Sigsawa (author) and Kohaku Kuroboshi (illustrator), and "Wagaya no Oinari-sama" by Jin Shibamura (author) and Eizou Houden (illustrator).

Jump SQ Releases New Promotional Video: Jump SQ has updated its official website another promotional movie called "Burning!!!", downloadable versions can be found here.

11th Japan Media Arts Festival Nominees: The nominees for the 11th Japan Media Arts Festival has been announced, nominees for the manga category:

Photocopier that Can Translate Manga? According to Gizmodo, Fuji Xerox has developed a new photocopier that can scan an English document and then print a copy of it in Japanese or Korean. The photocopier can also work the other way around, translating from Japanese tp English...a new tool for scanlators?

SnoopyCool Returns The official site of SnoopyCool has been updated with a counter, which suggests that something will happen 40 days from now...according to this post, the group's site will be completely relaunched on October 31st.

A Union of Mangaka: Yoshida Sensha and Risa Itou got married!

Koukoku no Shugosha Ends: Koukoku no Shugosha (Imperial Guards) by Daisuke Sato (author) and Yu Ito (artist) is ending in the October issue of Ultra Jump (9/19).

Moetan and Shana Manga Preview: Dengeki Kuro Maoh recently launched its official site, which features previews of the new Moetan manga as well as the new Shakugan no SHANA manga.

Manga Doing Well in Hong Kong: According to JETRO (Japan External Trade Organization), manga is doing extremely well in the Hong Kong contents market, with around 60% - 70% comics publishing in Hong Kong being manga.
