Mind numbingly slow

After the first couple of volumes the premise of each book becomes the same.

-Some minor political drama happens.

- Zenjirou gets sent off by his wife with her saying "Sorry for throwing you into this but you're the only other royal blah blah blah we have to preserve our reputation yada yada off you go."

- He being the passive man he is says "Yes dear." and goes off without a clue on what to do to solve whatever the problem is.

- Some side characters that tag along with him do all the heavy lifting to fix the generic issue of the book.

-Zenjirou returns home and says "Oh boy am I tired."

-Fin

-Repeat in the next book.

Slow building but in a good way.

Better than expected. First it starts out as being your typical Isekai dude who's just summoned to procreate with the Fem MC, and it kinda is but it becomes much more than that. Politics is involved for her decision to take the MC. There's more to it and same with taking a concubine to ensure safety of her country and keeping certain political/royalty factions at bay. Think Spice and Wolf but focusing on marriage and politics surrounding it.

For some people they may find this series a bit slow, but I like it's taking it's time building the development between the MC and the Queen.

Politics and Romance
by deathcoy

Rating: 8.0  / 10.0
Not your average transported to another world theme. Its a far cry from the cliche summoned to another world novel, its about politics and relationships rather than OP MC, tragic story, epic battles, gods & demons, saving the world, nope, none of that nonsense(i do actually love specially crafted cliches btw). I would say it appeals to a certain range of audience only.

So basically the MC, Zenjirou , is your average-joe japanese salaryman summoned to the fantasy world by the ruling Queen, Aura. His purpose being to marry Queen Aura and help carry on the bloodline of the royal family since apparently he is a descendant of sorts. Where it gets interesting is how Zenjirou who is pretty much just a normal working adult earthling lives and adapts to the new world by learning some magic and spreading a bit of our world's technology while interacting with his wife who is a high ranking Queen as well as the implications of court politics between the different Kingdoms and Nobles. You see, the Queen is looking for a sponger husband who lacks ambition as she wants to firmly exert and maintain her power, it will be impossible with an ambitious or easily manipulated husband. Luckily, Zenjirou fits the bill. Now the Queen knows that Zenjirou is quite smart and not oblivious of this fact but she is pleasantly surprised he agrees to her rule and wholehearted support her. In other words, he abandoned his 'pride as a man' to pursuit a life of a dependent/sponger. That is not to say he is a good-for-nothing husband. He does contribute to the world and help Queen Aura via introducing knowledge from earth, learning the etiquette and common sense of the new world so that he can dabble in the court politics to lift some burden of his wife, openly shares his thoughts/experiences with her, being in favour of her rule and also being a faithful husband, he is against having concubines. He more or less surprises Aura as a husband who is supportive and selfless willing to throw away his pride and face for her sake, totally opposite of what most Kings do. Furthermore being a faithful husband, Aura grows to love him even more due to his devotion and has started wanting him just for herself although this will be detrimental to the country, Kings/Princes are kinda expected to behave like one afterall, as in spreading his seed etc.

Aura on the other hand is not really a domineering, stubborn wife contrary to what other noble's opinion of her but is actually quite relenting to Zenjirou, trying to make his life more comfortable and respects his wishes though Zenjirou always has no demands, to her chagrin. Overtime she grows to trust him. Aura goes from a Queen who only marries for politics & bloodline to a wife growing further in love with her husband.

Most of the chapters deals with Zenjirou and Aura's married life, his experiences in court politics, dealing with other Kingdoms and nobles who are after his bloodline, him adapting to and changing the new world. A slice of life backdrop with focus on politics and a touch of romance. The story POV is told through both Zenjirou and Aura, not just Zenjirou alone which is a nice touch as it delves into how the couple matures.

Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Something to take note, further down the novel(not yet translated) he is kinda forced to pick up a concubine and the story focuses more on the new girl and her surrounding politics. It might drastically change the setting and pace of the plot but hopefully in a positive way. I am after all an avid supporter of Aura and Zenjirou.

Definitely a must read if you are sick of the current hype cliches. Be reminded, you'd have to have an open mind if you intend to read this or it'll probably bore you to death instead.

All the elements you love in the begining of the story, just died in the end of Vol.1, after that you pass all volume 2 waiting the resurrection of that, your are waiting the Return, but nothing happens!!, and guess what? you do the same thing reading volume 3, I mean after volumen 1 everything is just problems, issues, difficulties, just Royal and Noble Bullshit!!

Spoiler (mouse over to view)
and the ultimate problem, the guy almost made a blood promise to his wife the Queen, that He will not have sex with anybody besides her, He renounced his royal right to have concubines and lovers, besides of that, because some issues with his blood by royal decree between two kingdoms, with danger of outbreak of war in case of faults to the contract, "he cannot have sex with anyone besides the queen, so he is the ultimate faithful monogamous, but guess what? because the queen has to work, and she must not get pregnat again, at the least right now, he cannot have sex with his wife, NO CONDOMS

So you read a novel to get entertainment, ok you can see the Mc trough difficulties and problems, but he works to get over that, thats the fun, but in this story is like read just problems and problems!!

oh yeah I almost forgot

Spoiler (mouse over to view)
after his son is 2 years old, he cannot see the child anymore, so he cannot be even a father, this sucks, this guy lives like a neet, and prisioner at the same time, where is the fun of this?

Read up to vol 3, ch 4.

Volume 1 is quite good (9/10) and just for that volume alone I recommend it. However... Starting with volume 2 the novel looses focus and become a badly told slice of life stuttering on some kind of adventure story. The pacing also slows down to an abysmal crawl. That the MC transforms from a normal person into an idiot from vol 1 to vol 2 for no apparent reason doesn't help either.

To sum it up, drop it after volume 1.

The Japanese Game of Thrones. (as of vol. 3)

Political intrugue galore that makes Mushoku Tensei's pale in comparison.

The relationships between characters are realistic and uncompromising towards the generic overly-gratified love that most manga/anime characters have. These people go through experiences fitting of a thriller while bringing home the universal themes of duty, love, betrayal and suspicion.

Great read.

Gets boring by the second volume

It was interesting but honestly the plot lines got rather boring. Many chapters start repeating the formula of, thing happens, wife deals with it, than talks to MC to tell him how she's dealing with it. It just bloats the whole thing and gets...boring.

It's nice to read about a monogamous couple for once. Seeing them navigate through the political landscape while learning about one another is quite charming.

Just don't ask why the guy who was a programmer by profession didn't take a copy of wikipedia with him. That has sparked many a flame war already.

edit: Oops. Confused this guy with the protagonist from Death March. This guy was just an office worker.

A good Waifu

Rating: 10.0  / 10.0
The novel is pretty cool, it tells the story of a queen balancing her career and her personal life in a non convoluted, simple and fun albeit a slightly idealistic way. It also focuses on her husband, who comes voluntarily from modern day Japan to this magical world, and tries to lead a life detached from the politics of this world. It is must read, the translator does a good job in delivering the content as unadulterated as possible. The manga makes me long for a 'my waifu' like Aura. ;-)

Awesome novel
by Perkel
March 27th, 2015, 2:55am
Rating: 10.0  / 10.0
Starts like lately every new novel and looks like full of clishes. Dude gets summoned to some world. Chick declares he will be her husband and world is filled with magic.

Then it shatters most of those clishes so that what is fallowing is new and exciting to read for many people who are tired with same stuff.

Chick isn't your typical manga waifu, main character doesn't save world or even do anything that could be "hero" like and it looks more like realistic depiction of dude from our world trying to live in fantasy world.

If i could compare it to something then i would say it is close to Game of Thrones novels than your typical manga. Various factions and everything is intertwined. Main character is basically reader who was put in such weird circumstances.

Problems pile up as living different world meant no electricity, court of kingdom isn't "home" in traditional sense of that word and privacy and intimacy is almost non existent.

Then there is Queen itself which is not your typical character. Stands strong as a Queen and has her own goals where main "hero" is basically her tool for her power.

It is fascinating to read how two different cultures clash and how simple things could influence opinions and behaviors. What if instead of spending weeks on calculating kingdom budget you could do something like this in hours or minutes.

Currently at v2 but so far it is amazing and story naturally flows.
