I guess this is what they call finding a diamond in the rough

The title sounds weird. The description is vague and uninteresting. Even the volume covers are so-so.

But don't let that fool you, because sci-fi/post-apocalyptic doesn't get much better than this. This manga is classified in the horror genre, but a more accurate description would be that it simply utilizes horror to amplify the intensity of its action-packed story.

In fact, despite being 12 volumes long, BM really seems much shorter because it is so intense throughout. Tired of reading all the pointless crap in between story arcs that so often fill up shounen mangas? Welcome to Bio-Meat. When the action's over, you get a time leap, and the action starts all over again, and this is while keeping a satisfying amount of character interaction and evolution throughout. Friggin' awesome.

The horror style is sort of similar to Critters (a really old but awesome horror movie, look it up if you want). The plot seems sort of like a cross between Resident Evil and Parasyte. My major complaint is that the characterization is poor, very "shounen-y", and the character development is also kind of ad hoc and thus not very believable. I don't really like any of the characters. Well, I liked the first few volumes best, naturally. For the duration of the first few volumes, I believed that I could start to like the characters, but it never happened. The narrative style sort of reminds me of Karakuri Circus in that respect. I'm on volume 6 but won't continue to read because at this point it's just a typical horror / action science fiction story to me (the plot is certainly better than almost every plot you find in a Hollywood movie, and it's certainly engaging enough to keep a normal person interested, but I easily drop stuff). If all you care about is suspenseful horror / action, or you enjoy shounen-y characterization, pick this up, it'll certainly engage you.

This manga as a whole could be about 3 good movies. The only flaws I think of is that sometimes the characters switching seems needless(like introducing green, and the two kids) but it's pretty harmless and green at less, becomes part of the gang(the kids were over competent). And some people might have trouble with the inspirational dialogue at times, it's very hopeful.

That aside, there's constant death in this series. most of japan is wiped out by the end. This is like combining one of those horror movies about rats or birds with a zombie apocolypse movies. The creatures are great, really nasty and ugly like marine life. The original kids progression is pretty good too, in terms of their competency and its all in a realistic setting despite the style.

I just picked this one up out of boredom and I didn't expect too much from it but I stumbled over one of the best shounen/survival mangas out there.
The pace of the manga is just amazing there isn't a single unnecessary filler chapter despite the length of 12 volumes ! The characters may be a bit too shounen-like for some but at least they use their brain, all in all a very enjoyable.

I planned to read this manga just for fun. But what do we have here? I'm stuck with it till the end, unconsciously spending my time for a continuous 4 hours!
Truly an interesting genre, the first one I've read, and also the best one I think. It describes the situations clearly, and just when you thought the author won't have the explanation for the current situation, surprisingly he has. Very, very interesting, and promisingly will give you a satisfaction. Recommended to read.

PS: Currently waiting for "El El" to be completed. Survival horror is my new favorite genre now..

At first, I thought this manga series was going to be a typical horror story until the mangaka came up with the concept of evolution and the ongoing horror of this man-created monstrosity. For the most part, all the main characters are not very dynamic, but gung-ho enough to make this series a real gem. The art and gore is very much like Gantz along with the element of tragedy and heroism.

Therefore give the first volume a read before judging it.

that i ever read.this manga turn up my survival fetish. when i was reading it i was very captivated with the story, my heart was racing and i skip school just to finish it. when i look back, theres nothing really special about it, the characters are one dimensional, the art is dated, and the survival fight is usually one sided, but i think it is very good introduction to survival horror.

This is the first manga of this kind that I have actually enjoyed. I think it really illustrates mankind's behavior and the lengths we would go to achieve our goals.

Must read for everyone.. not just fans of the "holocaust" type mangas.

A favorite series of mine for the past few months.

This little gem does a good job of keeping the reader interested in the plot and its characters. You get to see how this horror starts and expands (along with how the characters develop through the leaps in years) without having to get bored with nonsense chapters usually placed in shounen series.

There is not alot of focus on the characters themselves, but this is done with an artistic twist. Instead of explicitly stating the relationships of the characters through dialogue and character specific scenes, the mangaka shows through the actions of the characters their relationships and how the ordeals have shaped them into the people they are.

Even the title is quite werid, this manga has a typical survival story, it's a seem like a zombie roaming story and It collects all the good point of this kind of survival story in its plot. The storyline simply perfect, I think smile
The art is not really good but is good enough for this manga.
Really dense character development and quite fun at some point.
Overall it's not really great manga but it's the best for its genre.
