Strange and melancholy, yet good and happy

This is a really weird manga, first of all. It doesn't fit any cliches, and the plot is so strange. It's not really romance, but not really not romance. It's happy and light, yet dark and realistic in a way, and it uses many symbols such as his friend passing away as a signal and waking-up call to the main character. It's really interesting, enough to draw you in, and so strange, like you're reading the chapter over to get the emotional feel to it. I can't explain it, but from what I got from this manga was a totally different reading experience from other shounen mangas.

It's not action, it really is more like slice-of-life, and definitely not a typical fighting shounen. It's about two high schoolers, trying to find their definition in life, and the chainsaw man is just a connection to both of them that they both have to surpass to find that. But it's not depressing at all, letting the artwork/dialogue being on the "lighter" side.

The artwork is really good, unique kind of, and fully shows the expression of the characters. The term "a picture is worth 100 words" can be played into this manga. I recommend a read for anyone looking for something beyond the regular shounen.

Someone complained about a rushed ending.
While it did seem to me as if the author had kinda run out of ideas in the end, I don't see any loose ends, and the "enemy's motive" had been obvious to me since Eri explained her back story.

In case anyone doesn't get it:
Spoiler (highlight to view)
There is no Chainsaw Man. The Chainsaw Man is the manifestation of Eris fears and her depression, and has no motivation. It appeared after her family died, it exactly fits the description of her childhood fears, and at last it gets weaker the more happy (when she grows closer to Yousuke) and stronger the more despaired and lonely (When Yousuke needs to move away) she gets - And finally disappears once Yousuke decides to stay with her no matter what, and booth Eri and Yousuke finally overcame their problems (in an chapter that reminded me of the final episodes of Evangelion, which I meant by "run out of ideas").

it's a symbolic piece of work...its about a boy trying to find meaning in life, a girl trying to find something or someone to grasp to and the death of a schoolmate...its not depressing at all btw
the art is fantastically elegant...the story is deep and it makes u ponder about things and life in general...lots of symbolisms...and obviously quickbrownfox didnt get it, so dont consider his comments as valid...and yes, quickbrownfox the enemy's motive is explained and that happens way before the last chapter...it's not a hard manga to understand actually and everybody should read it in my opinion...

p.s: somebody should change the description for this manga...it doesn't do justice to the title :/// makes it sound too shallow

feels like random nonsense pretty much from page one
Life sux...well yes it can...lets all be friends and love each other
do we really need 8 chapters of weird to tell us that?

its like the musicguy said in the manga
use vauge language and images and try to make it seem deep
then ppl will overanalyze it
and appreciate it
that one conversation in a flashback sums up this manga [and nhk]
so in a way I like it...it does not try to be something it isnt

the biggest problem for me is that i dont even care one bit about any of the characters
He is uninteresting and emo-ish
she is tsundere emo with irritating changes in her breast size every other page
but its way too short for me to care about their tragic past
its not built up so that i really care about them
maybe i just cant stand emos

This manga was pretty good, it had a lot of symbolism and deep emotions. However a lot of people might have a problem with this manga if their not looking for symbolism in a story with no definite or solid series of events. Some might feel the ending was rushed, but I don't think this series could have gone on too long with the main characters fighting the same enemy over and over again.

Very deep (by manga standards)

This manga is very deep, by manga standards of course. Needless to say, I'm very used to reading somewhat shallow manga with just action and/or cheap romance. This is very refreshing to say the least. I've come across it a few times on OneManga (via the "Surprise Me!" button) but I was turned away due to the weird title (Negative Happy Chain Saw Edge...seriously?) and terrible description.

Eh, some readers seem to be confused as to the nature of the Chainsaw man. It didn't take me long to realize that
Spoiler (highlight to view)
it was a metaphor
, but maybe that's because I've seen very metaphorical texts before (try understanding Haruki Murakami [a book author]...hah!). That was made clear when
Spoiler (highlight to view)
Eri described that the Chainsaw man not only fitted her imagination, but grew stronger or weaker along with her emotions. There were also multiple references to him as the cause of evil and sadness of the world.

Overall, I definitely recommend this manga. Very original, most original manga I've ever read with no cliches (none that I could spot) at all. You should definitely read it if you're looking for a break from the typical braindead shounen/shoujo manga.

Now this is a different type of manga, one that is extremely new and refreshing. It reflects delicately upon a boy who is trying to find the true meaning and purpose of his life, and a girl who despite all set backs tries to fight of what she perceives as 'bad' ness.
I suppose we all tend to feel somewhat like that at various times of our life, thinking about the purpose of our lives, trying to find some place where we belong, wondering if anything exciting could ever happen in our boring life-- This manga certainly does show us all these qualities, and is probably a unique experience to everyone.
Definitely worth reading.

What a heart warming joy to read. Reading this manga left me on the edge of my seat. An enticing read, that never looses your interest, with pitch perfect pacing. (the lead characters are also really really lovable)

If you like manga with action, chainsaws, awesome awesome romance, character development, and amazing plot... than definitely read this manga. If your not into that kind of manga, I bet you'll still love this ^. ^

CoCo loves this Mango
