In a rainy spring day, first year high schooler Midori Saejima saw a tall, handsome fellow student take care of a stray kitten. Without knowing the boy's name, she fell in love with him at the first sight. Due to sickness, Midori returned to school three days after summer vacation -- only to find out that she was "volunteered" as a candidate for student council. After a series of embarrassing accidents, both she and the mysterious boy she had a crush on, Akira Sudo, were elected as members of the student council. Being the first student council of this newly established high school, they are about to create "new traditions" for their school and a bittersweet love story for themselves.

Yes, the main character did get annoying here and there with her constant crying, & don't get me wrong usually I HATE the weak main character types as much as majority of people do, but this manga was an exception. it turned out to be such a beautiful story & the ending had the capability of leaving me with this indescribably wonderful feeling.

OMG, I loved this manga biggrin To be honest, it's my 2nd favorite shoujo manga (Hana Yori Dango being in the first position xD). In the beginning, it was so-so high school love story to me, the usual shoujo stuffs- the girl is timid and not the 'perfect' one and the guy is handsome and the 'center of attention'. But as the series progress, it gets better and better, to the point that when I sat in front of my PC to read it online, I kept on reading and reading and reading without having the knowledge of the time ^^' It made me laugh many times and also made me cry for two or three times if I remember properly. I liked the characters, the story and the art is pretty good.

It took me forever to finish this, usually i read something like this within a week at most, but with this manga it stretched for over a month.
Because i just didn't feel it. The start was great and i love older stories but it dwindled to mediocrity. Midori is such a huge cry baby, omg i couldn't stand it, i mean it was almost every single chapter with her tears. Main characters make or break a manga, and for me Midori broke it. I found the view of dreams to be utterly irrealistic and made the female characters weak. The romance factor was so overly dramatic that ended up making the manga a little bit worse. The friendship was the reedeming factor, throughout the story it was well developed and i loved the student council theme. But for me it just wasn't enough because the tears and the romance kept getting in the way.
Note that this rating shouln't be viewed as bad, it isn't. For me this just isn't top stuff.

Seriously what a big cry baby. However it was a good series. I enjoyed seeing the transition and growth in the characters.

i like this better than Paradise Kiss. the story is actually very good. i have to say that whatever the characters felt, i've felt it as well. it's like i cried, laugh and feel anxious with them. this is one manga i can never forget. the art may not be that good but ones you start reading this you forgot about it. i recommend this 100%. one of the best i've read. i just hope that Yazawa make an omake of this so that well see Akira and Midori's kids. biggrin

I don't have words to express as how much I <3 this manga! I am basically a shoujo manga reader and not all the shoujo mangas that I have read till date have been able to impress me so much as this one did. When you read the plot of this series, it will seem like just another ordinary high school love story to you but its truly something more than that. Its a must read XD
This manga made me smile when I read it and I can recall that I even cried a number of times during some of the emotional moments. And that's how a perfect manga should be according to me. It should be able to touch the heart of the readers.
I won't comment much on the art as I think Yazawa-san did a pretty good work. As the series progressed, the style of the art kept on changing and it resembled the art of Nana and Paradise Kiss more as compared to how it was in the beginning.

I really enjoyed this manga, partly because I felt I could relate to it a little bit. The characters are enjoyable, although sometimes the main characters seem to a bit out of character just to further drive the plotline.

Everything in this manga goes so smoothly, that I feel almost bitter about it; it doesn't sit well with me that just about every character had a happy predictable love.

But because the characters were lovable, it was nice to see they all had a happy end. The extra stories about their childhoods seem to tie the ends of the story ridiculously well, and makes the manga that much more corny; though I must say they were hilariously enjoyable too.

Oh, and the art develops. Rounder faces in the beginning develop more to resemble the faces in some of the mangaka's more popular series, like Nana or Gokinjo Monogatari

I don't even know where to begin. This was an amazingly endearing manga and I felt like it ended at about the right time. The ending was a little "eh!?" but not bad. It just didn't really end the way that the manga seemed to be building us up for so I was surprised.

As with many other shojo mangas, there are some silly misunderstandings that add to our angst levels and make us want to break someone's arm, but they aren't AS pronounced and overdone as they are in many other mangas. Yes, some of the scenarios are outright ridiculous and impossible, but not to a point where you roll your eyes and want to stop reading.

On the contrary, I couldnt' STOP reading, I read from chapter 1 to the end without stopping. Everytime I tried to stop, well I didn't. And the manga and characters stuck with me long after I was finished. It's definitely one of my favorite mangas.

The character development is fairly minimal outside the two main characters, but I found the main guy, Akira, to be relatively believable and likeable for one of those "I'm quiet and have a mysterious past and act like I'm a punk" kind of guys. He was probably my favorite character.

Highly recommend this series!

The art changes through this story. It starts off pure old school and then moves onto a style similar to Nana. For example: The first 3 chapters of the story use thick lines to outline almost everything.
The main characters all keep the same aperance except Midori. I dislike how the author decides to morph Midori. I read untill chapter 8 in one day and then I went to sleep. When I picked up this manga in the morning I relized how much Midori changed. She lost her curvy face shape to a sharp face with a huge forehead, she lost her grace and gained a childlike clumsyness, her eyes became too large for her face and cartoonish, and her mouth grew so large I bet she could fit her whole face in it. I wasn't in love with Midori's looks when I first saw her, but it was an overall pleasant apperance. Now she looks constantly cartoonish and more and more childlike when she should be growing up.

Good art (and story). I just wish the author hadn't changed Midori SO much.

Amazing Story

There are very few mangas I would rate as outstanding. There are even fewer that when I finish reading them I think back over how much I loved everything about the story. This however is one of them. It has to be one of the best, brightest, most enjoyable stories I've ever read in manga. There are others that similarly tug at the heart strings. But I can't remember a single one, that made me laugh, made me cry, and make me ache for the characters, and all they were going through.

Theres nothing bad in this manga. Which is unusual, as theres normally excessive stuff like bullying, or stupidity, or pointless misunderstandings. This one though just flows, from beginning to end. With tears and laughter throughout. Its a classic, drown in an older style, especially at first. But it really makes me wish someone would license it and publish it. Either that or that there would be an anime of it.

A definite Must Read!
