Mamotte Shugogetten is a series that flew under my radar, and it is only recently I am discovering this manga. I am a huge fan of the magical girl genre, and with this series tagged as such, coupled with the gorgeous 90s style art, Mamotte Shugogetten immediately jumped to the top of my "must read" list. This series did not leave me disappointed! Mamotte Shugogetten is part romance, part comedy, and executes both very well. The characters are charming and adorable, the art is some of my favorite in the "90s manga" style, and is all around a fun ride. While the comedy portion of this manga takes a backseat maybe a little over halfway through so the romance and misunderstood feelings can take the reins of the story's direction, it still shines through at times and keeps the story lighthearted and fun.
If you like magical girl manga that is more in line with a romance/slice of life series, where the heroine has magical powers but there is little to no combat; a la Ah My Goddess, check this one out for sure! Mamotte Shugogetten is about as charming, and also boasts stellar artwork and character designs!
