Description

Satoshi Yanagawa is working part-time controlling traffic at work sites and works with a beautiful girl that he likes at first sight. But she has a pretty bad character. Are there any prospects for romance? Read on to find out, the story is hilarious at certain moments, and touching at others.

First, I really hate the weak MMC trope in most mangas. I also really dislike how obsessive the MC is. Weak x stubborn are not that great of qualities.

Also the girl MC's friends keep bringing up her ex (even if they were long time friends they only went out for like 2 months I think.) more than I think needed which from raws seem to bring up unnecessary drama

That being all said and done, this is meant to show both MCs growth, which is really slow and really subtle. The relationship between the two MC's is great - young love and all, great realism with some gag/comedy.

A romance with heart and realism

Release lists are filled with all sorts of juvenile power fantasies or PLOT focused nonsense in regards to romance so it´s nice that see that "also ran" authors try to fight that trend with tales of blue collar workers that feel like real people and not a cliché or porn stars. The art is quirky and warm, the leads are all well defined and likable and the relationship is believable on all aspects. The harder parts of a relationship are addressed too and the manga actually focuses on what happens after the protagonist gets the girl. The series has nudity and sex but nothing objectionable and both the manga and the author deserve a bit more recognition. Read Ja Ja Uma Grooming UP! (8,5/10) for a more youth oriented but still engaging romance or the reviewed Natsu no Zenjitsu (9/10) for a more challenging narrative that both focuses on a side of Japan that is mostly missing in the scanlation scene.

The tough life

Excellent manga! This is the side of Japan seldom shown in manga, the lives of people with broken marriages, debts, unplanned pregnancies, temporary jobs and few prospects. Somehow this whole story feels very natural, I could totally believe in the characters, sometimes they do stupid or strange thins but never outside the realm of the possible.

About the dodgy part

This is mostly to people that checked the raws, don't understand the original language and came to THAT point of the story (Mind you, I don't understand japanese either, this is just what I got from people who finished the story):

So, the girl didn't actually cheat, as in, she didn't have sex with her ex. They were just staying at the hotel overnight. She later even confessed to the main what happened, he raged, they had a temporary break, but still ended up together.

the girl cheats on the poor sap, just because she could I truly loved the series until that, didn't read the rest.. so maybe ! they end up together anyway, but still spoiled the series for me

cecropiamoth put all the words he wrote down exactlly how i think... the true feeling of this manga and how the author makes it feel real is what drives me reading more, and how everything develops and makes you feel yourself in the manga. truelly one of the best manga

Picked this up 3 times and stopped because it wasn't what I expected. When I finally kept reading it I was pleasantly surprised. I really recommend reading the first 2 volumes to get a general image of this manga, chances are big you'll like it. It's about the working class, a guy with no experience with girls that falls in love with a delinquent on his job. It's very cute at times, and very realistic in my opinion. Recommended!

Could a relationship like this happen?

Well, the details of the tough working-class world it's set in look 100% real to me. This setting looks like an American city, not the far prettier, neater, and cleaner scenery in which so many school and love manga take place.

Ditto the people. The couple, who are both around age 20, are each very odd people, but for some reason I never had the slightest hesitation accepting each as almost as real as people I know. (The group of loser boys from which the hero eventually graduates look way too much like me and some of my friends of long ago, as a matter of fact.)

Would this boy want this girl, and vice versa, given that they each seem so far outside the limits of what each would normally expect the other sex to be? I think so, based on the fact that I've been much like the male lead for most of my life, and I think this girl is fantastic! It's less clear why she would be drawn to him.

But it's a pretty unlikely sequence of events, after all. I think this story has worked tremendously well for 30 chapters because this mangaka knows how to communicate the intensity of the feelings that routinely come to 20-year-olds as they start to learn how to survive on their own in the world. His drawing communicates that excellently, and the uninhibited outbursts of almost all the characters does too. Where there is intensity of feeling, there is the feel of reality. In fact, it's having feelings that make the world and other people real to us on the deepest level. Because this manga has so much true feeling, it makes me believe it's true.

This is a jewel of a manga. I think it has the potential to become as moving and successful as, say, "Genshiken". Already it has gone way beyond what I expect of manga and anime. To me it's already gone way beyond anything I expected when I started reading it.

The story is hilarious

I really like the strong female lead in this story. The design of the characters looked childish to me at first but I got used to it really fast because of how funny the story is. I recommend people to read this but there are only 29 chapters scanlated so far so you have to wait a while for each chapter.

I read many romance mangas so far and this is one of my favourites as it has some very individual story . The uncommon relationship (very strong female lead) in an every day slice of life setting, with a lot of hilarious humor creates an very entretaining atmosphere with a perfect balance between romance and comedy. The only weak point may be the art work as it's a particular one (especialy face expression, etc.) but soon after submerge within the story one will get used to it very fast.
I can recommed this manga to everyone, just give it a try and you'll not regret it 🙂
