Description
Back in the day, that place was a house filled with magic - a place where you ended up smiling even if you were crying. Surely, an invisible wizard must have lived there. Or so I thought.

What's a young child to do when her mother leaves her father for another man? Or when her father remarries a woman who brings along a child from a previous marriage? Or when her childhood neighbor friend invites her to live with him? [Mixini Studios]

I loved it

As someone who has "daddy issues" this manga hit me close to home. There were even parts where I had to put it down for a few minutes before continuing because it's somewhat realistic for anyone who's parents don't love them. Yeah, I didn't like how many people fell for Mao, but the story never stopped engaging me. Probably because it's rare to find a shoujo where the theme is fixing a broken family.
Mao's character didn't annoy me in the slightest and I'm not a fan of tsunderes. She has a prickly exterior because her dad treated her like trash and then her new family didn't initially accept her. It's normal to reject people before they reject you when you've gone through that.
This is a really well done shoujo both art and story wise. I forget about manga easily but this one had a lasting impression on me.

Family Issues

For me, what really resonated with this manga is the idea that the Nakamura home is one that is full of warmth, frienship, filial love, laughter, acceptance, and caring, in stark contrast to Mao Motomiya's own fractured family, which left her lonely, alienated, unwanted and to her own mind, an existence that is only bothersome to her own parents. Despite the tragedy that struck the Nakamura's, Hiro became the steadfast source of light who persevered to put back together his own family together, as well as inclulude Mao into the fold. This just shows that a true family need not be those forged by blood ties, but more importantly, by true caring and loyalty. Excellent read.

I found it boring...

I read this manga after reading all the great reviews it got, but I found it disappointing. The characters and situations were all stereotypical, the story predictable, and the tsundere protagonist unbearable (didn't think much about the main guy either, only one I sort of liked was Daiki). The family drama, though, was interesting. However I personally found it surprising how the art got such rave reviews, because it was not my favourite. I especially found it unsettling how far apart in age the two central characters looked - Mao could easily pass for 13. I admit that I stopped reading it around chapter 20, perhaps it was just not suited for my tastes.

Psychologically Intact

This manga is a beautiful read. The art is very simple, but at the same time expressive enough to serve well. It's also hella cute, so that's just fine.
The story is sometimes heartrending, sometimes tense, but it's always engaging. I read it all in one sitting and I can't say I'm disappointed. I don't think I had any of those moments where I wish the author had done things differently. It didn't feel like it was too hurried, nor was it unnecessarily dragged out.
The psychology behind each decision and behind all actions, as well as behind the story itself, as far as I can tell, is sound. Some people may find that the protagonist is a bit too childish for her age, but I believe that is actually not the case. Every person might come out of that kind of life differently, but your reactions are more than anything else governed by your "inner child", by the expectations, disappointments and experiences you made during your childhood. Her behaviour reflects this very accurately and is appropriate for somebody of her life.

I just had to give this one a 10 of 10, and that's rare for me.

Awesome

In Taiyou no Ie, =.= why are all the girls acting all Tsundere? Are they crazy? Hahahaha, oh and almost everyone is putting a frown, why the heck so sad? Even Hiro! Or then it's just how the mangaka likes to draw the characters? I will never know, unless! I pick up another manga of hers(ok, I went to check and apparently I read a lot of manga of hers already haha all high ratings too and nope only this manga hasany frown faces)...so I read until chapter 11, and this is totally a fantasy, things seem unrealistic, happening in a girl's dream, and thus it's a true shoujo manga, that's all I have to say <@< and I continue to read on, and realize, are you freaking sure it's normal for even childhood friends to just touch your face hug you and stuff so intimate?!! And you(the one being touched) feel it's ok?!! I mean sometimes they just don't say anything about the touchy thingy, this is sooooo only happening in a shoujo fan girl's dream~ =,=

Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Chapter 12 was full of funny moments. the miso soup part was funny, haha and the part where he said Mao being his wife, ei heh heh heh
Chapter 15 then was sad, about to cry, sigh Mao's mother, when will you be good? And about the last page, when did the Hiro like Mao thing started? At first, he was talking crazy about Sugimoto, then suddenly change to Mao, =.= that's how I feel, it changed suddenly without warning.
Chapter 20, wao this Taiyou no ie is awesome man, not only one guy's heart got crushed another one will be destroyed too(assuming Daiki will be rejected by Mao, that's for sure). Usually I see the main girls fighting for love, but for Mao, the boys just keep on coming~
Chapter 40.5, can I assume Rui Rui(the one Sugimoto chat with online) is a guy?

Overall, I have to say, the storytelling is truly not bad~ you get to know everyone's perspective and the mangaka flashbacks the past many times! To make you truly truly understand the whoooole story, so I have to commend on the storytelling, awesome~ and the drawing hmm she's very consistent in her drawing and the more I see it the more I like it. In the end, it ended smoothly, I don't expect anything else from this story, I'm contented and wishing the best goes for Sugimoto and Mao's real mom as well.

It was alright. I don't feel like it's as sweet as others. A lot of the drama and roadblocks seem artificial. Also, like the guy below said, she is just a little too childish for her age. Her behavior got on my nerves a little.

Unlike other shoujo mangas that often make me hate the antagonist, I like all characters in this manga, especially the main hero and heroine. The story, art, plot, and ending are all to my liking. It's so heart warming and sweet. Can't wait for the bonus chapters (the scanlation said there maybe bonus chapters) I hope the mangaka will make story about Hiro and Mao's wedding or a slight seeing about their future with children...

its sweet...nioce to read...heartwarming...
but.. the main girl is REALLY annoying...

she is WAAY too childish

the whole way i hoped she wouldnt get together with the older guy...that she liked....cuz hes so mature... and rather than a love interest...even if he might be attracted to her..it will only be lust... since the degree of of the girl's immaturity and childishness make it like a parent and chld relationship... no seriously

i enjoyed the other stuff tho.. the development... the drama and the traumas which were reconciled

I'm writing this having read up to the second to last chapter (what's posted right now).

This manga is sooo lovely, well-paced and just..ah...
Overall Taamo does well at not making too much nonsense drama(as in the type of situations that would only happen in shoujo manga), especially in regards to the main plot of the story.

The emotions and relationships in Taiyou no Ie are portrayed splendidly. Same goes for the family/issues in the story. Good good good read.

(also, freaking adorable art)

Better than 90% of on-going Shoujo mangas.

Popular =/= Good.
Like most of on-going shoujos around that are popular and sells a lot doesn't mean they are THAT good. Maybe some but most probably have gone downhill.
While Taiyou no Ie is quite popular and have average sells, it's a very good manga.
Which means it's not about the sells/rank but the quality, although that's still arguable.

From the development of the characters to the events that follows.
Characters act as if they were real human beings depicted in a fiction work. Others are exaggerated but I get it, it's to make it lively.

qwaszx summarize my inner thoughts about Taiyou no Ie.

Just the need for things to wrapped up on its own pace and we're done since everything is building up already. It'll be a memorable manga.
