It's very simple to explain. One Piece's overall strenght is being gigantic and running on with its worldbuilding to the end. It's a marathon to cross, a juggernaut to surpass. However, the bits and antics that will permeate the experience are already settled in the first notable arc, East Blue... And if the only thing you remember with love is Nami's backstory, it's not going to get better for you. It just won't happen.

But it is a great lesson on long-running manga: they are long-running as companions of your own adventures in life. And as such, it's never too late to get up and be up-to-date. It's all about the journey. If that road doesn't make any sense to you before hitting chapter 100, stay away, and go enjoy something you actually do. It's hard for me to accept something doesn't put the spell on you, because I want to share the same love others do. But what can you do. This is all about enjoyment, and that's what matters in the end.

Simply the best shounen ever.

I have been waiting 20+ years to start this series. When it came out I was like "there is too much filler, I got no time for this! I'll wait until it ends and someone makes a cut version of the anime". Tick tock.

What is there to say lol, I picked this manga up in 2004 and it's been my favorite series since early 2006 in Enies Lobby. Not every arc has been the greatest story ever told in fiction but the story as a whole absolutely is.

Amazing story with great characters!

Fun Ride till the end. Must read for anyone.
It's a series that will stick with you for generations and will continue as a triumph of manga.

i relay like that manga and its one of my top 10

I started it and dropped it many times, giving it more chances than it deserved, I didn't really want to put a bad review before I confirmed it was bad since some of my friends argued it wasn't tat predictible and so on.

But from my point of view the author had a very thin plot-line and filled it up on the run. From the start I predicted there would be some destiny bull** that would make Luffy and most of the plot "inevitable" and it proved me right with the D. stuff...

Apart from the many inconsistencies and the fact that the series romanticises the pirates. The series as a whole feels like a bad crossover that can only hold itself because of the shounen cliches.

I like it. The story is good. The world building is pretty good. Everythings interconnected and interelated. The pace has improved now.
My only issue is that most of the female characters are just wasted roles besides fanservice.
Also i guess almost all the pirates in the manga are
"Harmless" compared to real pirates, except a few groups. Real pirates were dark...

What can i say about this one.... absolutely the best (Shounen) manga there is! it has it all!! endless adventure, cool power ups, excelent comedy and the most perfect world building! ohh but the plot twists, the plot twists are on a whole other level... long live the king of mangas... i just hope the world doesn't come to an end before we see luffy becoming the king of pirates <3
