Refreshing, but nothing special

It's good that it's only a volume long. I have to agree with previous reviews that it doesn't feel like a manga. You can tell it's an adaptation from miles away. While the story is interesting and new, it feels rushed and too condensed. Didn't overstay its welcome, however. Good to kill some time.
It's mostly a worthwhile read if you're not expecting that much.

Kidnap. Murder. Psycho. Sounds so promising, doesn't it? Only that its execution is extremely poor and shallow. I can't understand why it's considered seinen, the target audience should be 12-13yo kids with special snowflake syndrome.

thank goodness it's not very long.

The story, while interesting to a degree, didn't leave a positive image on me.

I started this manga off with decent expectations due to, you know, the gushing reviews before mine, and I've got to say I was thoroughly disappointed.
There was no build-up, no character development, a cheesily executed past, and... some violence I believe. That's all. Plus everyone's a pedophile for the main character.
If you want an intelligent read, something psychological, decent, or even deep, go look somewhere else. Go read Himitsu or something. This wasn't even stupid enough to be amusing, or else I could have at at least laughed.

the characters, a Lying Mii-kun and a Broken Maa-chan certainly live up to their names. mii lie so much he dont even know wether he speak the truth or not. maa is so broken she dont even realize she dont function properly. i love the narration by mii, he sound laid back and unattached by life all the crazy happenings around him sound more surreal. a good short read.

One of the most exciting and engrossing manga I read, from the start it pulls you in and you won't let go until you understand what's going on. It's pretty weird, original; but in a good way.
Just be prepared for some major psychological subtext. Excellent manga. Recommended.

I never really comment on stuff, because I feel like most do not deserve it, but I will comment on this. This manga was rather intriguing, and somewhat a dept in the story line, but it was rather short. How it played out was great, and the cliff hanger was executed great. The writer for this will go down in my book.

I will not describe anything, but how I felt while reading this, so sorry for any disappointments.

Very interesting read, but feels like movie adaptation

Lying Mii-kun and Broken Maa-chan is actually a very intriguing story. It can very easily hook you in, and drag you along. It constantly keeps you guessing, and has a way to always be unexpected. Its very short, so the characters don't really develop and probably too broken to really likable, but as a suspense series, it really works.

But, its not without its problems. The entire manga is based on misinformation. Many scenes are interleaved with partial flashbacks. Although the story follows one guy, you don't see everything he does or thinks. Theres entire sections of time that are just skipped, and entire trains of thought that are just overlooked. While this does a very good job of creating deception and suspense, it feels paced as if the story was not intended to be in serialized form. Rather than a series of chapters, it feels like a movie that was forced to be broken up (which it likely was). Though, a lot of this can probably be alleviated if the entire manga is read in one sitting.

It does make me wish to see the movie, because although it was a very interesting read, I almost feel as if the story would have been able to be even better than it already is through another medium.
