I hated the Female Lead SOOOO much. She brought the whole book down.
by Katnipz

Rating: 6.0  / 10.0
The book itself was fine. Not the greatest thing ever, but not a bad setup and the flow was good. But the female lead was just a selfish, mean-spirited, lying, hypocrite it made me SOOO mad. She is literally the perfect example of a villain you love to hate. Only this time she is the female lead and wins. Yes, her sister was bad, but she wasn't that much better, only she justified all her actions because her sister did it to her first... so that mean she can do the same stuff and she should feel no guilt.

Spoiler (mouse over to view)
And honestly I believe she is 100% responsible for her step-brother Cain's death. She knew the step-sister was being weird, and she had the hourglass with her so she could have saved him and chose not to because 1) It would make the step-sister suffer more for having accidently killed her brother and 2) she is vindictive and wanted her step-brother died because he cut off her head in the past. But if you remember, he did that because the step-sister accused the Female Lead of trying to poison her. He literally believed she had attempted murder back then, so I don't really blame him for that. And no, he was not the best person in the world. Sounds like he was a bit of a jerk to the Female Lead in the past, had a bit of a crush on her in the future (that the Female Lead fanned), and was involved in a rebellion that his father started (like he got involved first, and Cain took over after he was injured). And from the few scenes you see of him after the rebellion incident, it really looked like he was taking his pardon seriously, he was trying to get his life on track, and be a good son to his father. But none of that matter to the Female Lead.. all that mattered as her revenge. I really really hated her. I truly believe that if she had to, she would have throw Jessie, Annie or Sarah to the wolves if that was what she had to do to get her revenge. Luckily for them, she was smart enough not to have to go to that extreme.. but I really think she would have done it if needed, and not felt bad afterwards

One of few 'Villainess' stories where the MC is an actual Villainess
by MatrixM

Rating: N/A
reviewed @ ch 98/125

Which leaves us with two main Villainesses at the start. Aria and her step-sister, Mielle. Both are evil women/girls...who are only evil because of the adults who surrounded them.
It's honestly tragic. In the prime timeline both are manipulated into evil from a young age and so remain so as adult women. In the new timeline Aria dabbles in evil but is now capable of independent thought and so can temper herself. Mielle has no such blessings. And it's not like Aria is any position to reverse the damage done to Mielle's personality, or prevent any more...nor does she have any intention to (villainess, remember?)

Which means when the time comes for Aria to take her revenge, I feel kinda bad for the child Mielle...and it just gets worse and worse. A true tragedy.

There's a couple other villainess characters...like 2 more main ones, a couple more named women who are pretty bad and a smattering of background characters, too.

Really this series doesn't have many 'Good' characters.

P.SI have no idea was Joese (comment below) was talking about for most criticisms. I suspect he/she read a bad translation. Go with the official one, perhaps? At least towards the end. iirc Anxious Frog had issues with a different series (The Villainess Lives Again) TL so I didn't even try this time

Decent first half ...

The first two seasons are more or less fine, I liked how she was consistent and relatively helpless, slowly building her own power while the male MC also tried to control his own destiny. The finale was also more or less expected but for some reason the story went on (I recommend stopping after she completes her revenge since the author tried to explain everything with unnecessary elements). I mean after her revenge against the first maid you more or less expect how she will deal with her enemies ...

But there are various aspects that were poorly executed. Another thing that made it a bit unreadable might be how most English translations have lots of missing panels ...so I recommend checking out the official translation or another language ...

Since the start we as readers know the prince's identity so it's a bit frustrating how he author baits us on her knowing his identity and then discarding her thoughts for no reason at all.

Her reveal as investor A :
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
She briefly stays doing work and being an entrepreneur just for that aspect to be forgotten, just like the princes pro-activeness apart from including the jealousy trope
A bit before that point there is a growing inconsistency with nobilty. Up to that point they did a rather fine European setting but it suddenly shifts to the typical fusion fantasy with Asian heavy influence. ¿And why wouldn't she buy a nobilty title or be independent after that?

The worst of the second season finale:
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
It was more or less fine but they should've kept it to schemes and actually having evidence. I mean ok he can f*** teleport but except for the first two times she could've gone without using her ability and in the only moment she could use it (when they push the duke she doesn't...) they had already ruined the other faction and the MC had created a new faction with her investments/the lower nobels, it was fun reading how she got to that but her self gained power is forgotten after that point ...

His parent was completely unnecessary. I mean he doesn't do add anything to the story, her initial stance about him was great, but just before the second second finale both MCs stop being in character almost all the time. just like their powers needing to be royal blood/patriotic for the awakening was totally unnecessary and only served for the main vilain to be helpless.

Having 20000 troops to ruin the nobel's economy with their maintenance is absurd. What really frustrated me is how it all ends with a well we won't pay you so you can go back ... They would've totally stormed he castle for that /done a revolt.

And all the being nobel/status play and goes down the drain with her ex maids and the "bad guys"... It was one of the most consistent parts throughout the story. But instead they disregard consistency in favour of making a situation in which the MC has various monologues about how bad they were and doing the same the next arc.
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
I mean they build all the expectations on her revenge on Mielle just to have her be a maid for a week use the hourglass once to kill her brother for no reason (It isn't even realistic how she couln't stop her brother from dying) and then execute her. And given the setting even after the treason the families themselves would've survived so abolishing the noble titles/not having bought one herself is the peak of inconsistency
I mean she goes from being the person with most asets/polytical power inside the kingdom to the stereotype of dependent queen in shoujo manga that relies on her bakground.

It's pretty good

I binge read it, and mostly enjoyed the journey. If it wasn't for binge reading, I might have lost interest and dropped it during the times that it got dragged out too much--Especially the epilogue chapters featuring annoying kids from the future. Yuck.

I wouldn't read this again, but it wasn't a waste of time. Well...maybe it was a slight waste of time to read.

The romance had almost no emotional connection to me. There wasn't really any tension and they kinda yawned through it. A boring romance with no couple struggles after they reciprocate feelings. Completely lacked passion.

Poor Oscar (who can be described as Disney's "Go Away Green" paint color in human form) was so completely forgotten that he didn't appear in any character summary montages at the end. I actually was curious about his life as a commoner after the great aristocratic purge.

It should have ended after the first 2 seasons. Everything was just right up until then. After that season 3 nothing happens so it's for nothing. And the epilogue idea was nice but made Aria stupid and annoying and made some things illogical.

If I had one complain it would be that

she never really resolved her relationship with her father. Plus I noticed that during the chapters with her daughters their father wasn't really present.. Kinda weird since they kept saying he is a good father.

Other than that it was a great read with a refreshing POV.

Not a favorite

I'm one of the few that didn't like this story. The beginning started off interesting but went downhill. I love a good story about a villainess protagonist but I don't like this FL. I've read my share of vengeful, manipulative, and malicious FLs but Aria is just not a very likeable character. Her character comes off very 2D for the most part and other times, it just completely feel like different characters altogether. She starts off as a cheerful, angelic girl then transitions to a haughty, spoiled brat then a cold, spiteful villainess. I understand her experience and the surrounding people caused her to change but her essence just completely disappears. I was a fan of ML in the beginning but at some point, he became a wallflower and I lost interest in his scenes. The whole revenge plot drags and the continued use of magic powers just further dragged down the story. I probably dropped and picked the story up again around 3-4 times. I really wanted to like it because the art is beautiful and everyone talks highly of it. I did end up finishing it (I had to skip some chapters towards the end), but it definitely wasn't a favorite of mine.

Consistent Villainess

Probably the only villainess I know that stays a villain with their thinking because she only thought of her survival til the end still holding such motives from each person she uses, although she did become kind because of the people around her.

Maybe because of that, I didn't like it but I commend her consistency.

When I first read this, I fell in love with how pretty Aria is. Like legit haha, she's so gorgeous I had her screenshot. She's badass and smart, but then somehow I got bored with the pacing after I.F died but I didn't realize they started with the side stories with that. I thought it dragged a bit at the end, but overall... it was good.
