Promising story ruined by the male lead

As the title says, I found it very funny in the beginning and I really liked almost all of the characters (or at least liked them as characters) but the male lead is just boring af, he has no personality, no hobbies, no friends, no goals and no life at all outside of the female lead. He’s just a terrible 1 dimensional character that gets way too much screen time to be ignored.

I know it sounds like I’m hating on him for no reason but he gets more screen time than the average male lead and doesn’t even have a personality to justify it. The main reason I talk so badly about him and what really got to me is when the character development of the female lead is stopped and her whole strong and capable woman thing is passed for some time just so he could he seen as not pathetic at that time.

Overall if you can ignore him its a pretty nice story

I might be in the minority but I love a strong female lead that shows emotional vulnerability and at least some feminity. I felt like the author was compensating for something with her. This FL was just too macho the entire time and they tried to make the ML's character extremely innocent through and though almost to balance her out....but still have some power in the end and it just didn't do it for me. He didn't seem to be anything more than a pet. That would have been fine if they didn't add the romance. The actual romantic parts were cute and I liked them but they felt out of place in the whole story. I also felt like the issues with God and the story didn't get resolved. They finished the story... so they're done free and clear without anymore repeats. Why, because he's suddenly powerless 🤨 Idk I didn't hate it but it took awhile to get through it. The short stories left me with more questions than answers

Too much inner monologuing

I read the first 6 chapters because they were free, and grew deathly bored of text box after text box of Melissa monologuing at how crappy everyone in her life is. Was actually a bit interested in how she would start to give everyone their just desserts and turn things around, but not enough to open my wallet to read more.

Will continue reading as far as WUF allows, but if the series doesn't start showing instead of telling soon I'll probably put this one down.

Agatha is one of the few ones that does the ''strong'' female lead right. This is one of the worst ones.

And there is nothing funny about it. The humor is not even adolescence type of humor.

Decent, worth reading

Well the middle was better than decent, but in the first 20 or so chapters everything felt like it took 5 times longer than it should (explaining things, finding solutions, etc.).

And the end, well it came too soon, and the big baddie for all he had to say (and considering what he was) sure disappeared fast.

Also who gets married without showing any kind of intimacy first ? I was disappointed in that.

And then there's the side stories, which are a 3rd of the entire thing and contain everything the main story was missing, like side character development and the actual romance part because the main story had none, it would be more accurate to call it an Action-Fantasy rather than Romance-Fantasy.

Normally all this would be in the main story and some might say it would've slowed down the pacing, but again, pacing is more of an issue in action stories than romance.

As for the side stories themselves, at least 3-4 of the 7 were probably not worth reading for various reasons like showing more negative than positive things.

Let's focus more on the positives, by far the thing that stood out most in this manga was the sound track... lol, just kidding, it was of course the artwork, simply excellent, traditional B&W manga art will forever be 2nd place from now on.
The gender role reversal aspects were also kinda nice.

the romance in this is kind of light that the series might as well be shounen at least until when the romance picks up pace in the second half. ML is understandably controversial since he’s not everyone’s cup of tea including mine, and the dynamics between him and FL don’t deepen all that much throughout the series. Their relationship takes a backseat in the story and instead the FL’s role in the world, the action and the 4 other “MLs” is the main part, and it works alright. Not the best story but always satisfying to see a strong FL smash her way through. Kind of bakarina feeling with less of the harem vibes

A lot of stuff happening in this manhwa is really absurd comedy. Some may enjoy it.

But be warned if you dislike absurd situation then this manhwa is not for you. You will need to keep away a lot of common sense, but if you could do that, i would say this could be a somewhat okay read.

UPDATE: Skip Ch.05 to Ch.20 - which is when things get interesting and you (maybe, maybe not? probably?) won't suffer the tight, congested feeling I put up with while hoping I can finally see whatever other reviewers are raving about.

ORIGINAL review: No, seriously. WHAT manhwa is everyone reading to give this frustrating pile of confusion such glowing reviews? I'm 12 chapters in right now and I know from a decade of experience of reading webtoons that things just do not pick up until chapter 40, at the latest. I just don't know if I can keep going.

So! If the Crown Prince fiance-prick-of-the-year is cheating then...go find a man of your own to do the same? UPDATE: Ch. 23 -

she did but she somehow thinks it's her own fault she still "failed" at the ball? She got what she wanted though. Humiliate the Crown Prince. Who. Cares. About the rest of said Crown Prince finding/falling in love with the OG heroine. You accomplished your original goal...how does that NOT satisfy you?

Or, I dunno just walk away? Live your life? IGNORE HIS SUMMONS? Like, why stand there long enough for the Other Woman™ to make things even worse for you?!?!😕??

The room thing with your own brother plastering your prick-fiance's face all over it...to do what? (I don't understand this plot point) Anyway, you're a literal noble. Living in a MANSION equivalent to an actual palace. GIRL. FIND ANOTHER ROOM, B**ch. Decorate it exactly as you did your old one. HOW HARD IS THAT TO DO? Why give in to their stupidity?

I thought this FML was supposed to be "refreshing" and "proactive" and "strong"? WHERE? Where is this mythological unicorn of female independence in this (so far) unsatisfying mess? She's just reacting to sh*t around her. UPDATE: Ch. 23

has her find a magical sword that allows her to become "badass"? Uh, where was this sword and the accompanying IDGAF attitude in the past 22 chapters?

And her pointless revenge fantasies about murdering the crown prince doesn't pay off emotionally for me. I 100% doubt she'll go through with it. If she did she'd be so much more entertaining and actually, truthfully, refreshingly badass.

I'm going to keep reading until Ch.40 and if things don't improve. I'm done. So far it's 1 star and that's only because I can't give it a 0.

UPDATE: Ch.25 - Yona best girl. Upgrade to 1.5 simply on her charms alone.

UPDATE: Ch.27 - Yuri might be elevating this just by existing. Thank you, Lady Yuri.

UPDATE: Final one after finishing this entire thing; I stand by this review. 🙄😒 Yona still definitely best girl though. Still only 1.5 stars. The extras aren't worth it to me even if one of them was Yona's backstory. This manhwa isn't memorable or satisfying enough to read through all of that.

Indeed... "A refreshing, unique villainess who's been dropped in the world of a novel, only to overthrow it all!"

Given this is one of the first few manhwas I've read, it amazed me and I had a ton of laughs. Execution is good. Comedic expressions are so funny. I fell in love with Nine Photon. Yona the Maid is a relatable character.

Since I read this when it was completed, the chapters didn't dull me much in the long run. I just love a badass FL.
