Well although it never gets as ridiculous as Tennis no Oujisama, Kuroko no Basuke still however carry the feeling. Starting from the off, Kuroko is a unique player whose ultimate treat is his innate ability of being 'invisible', in that it is so very easy for his opponent to lose sight of him in the game and gave him ability to alter the match direction at well. To maximize his potential, his team need someone with super ability, found in Kagami, a relative rookie on the screen with potential to reach the sky as the limit. They met together in a relatively modest High School basketball team and together embarked on a road to win a National Championship.
I have to say that rather than getting attracted by Kuroko nor Kagami, my interest in this started because of a certain Aomine Daiki. He is actually the most talented player in the series who is capable of doing anything that human can imaginably do in basketball. Now you know where the reference to Tennis no Oujisama come from. Sports manga can be divided into two category, one that is logical and one that is beyond illogical. Kuroko no Basuke was initially bit of both, but increasingly inclining to the 2nd as it approaches end.
Which simply summarizing how match flow. So for their team to win a significant match against so called miracle generations, miracle itself will happen in one way or another. And whether that is good or bad, it goes back to each of reader's taste.
I'd rate it 7/10 for successfully describing intense atmosphere of High School basketball competition (with , training, study, and all) while delivering intense matches with twists and turns. (and a plus in Aomine Daiki)

I don't understand why people have such a hard time with their suspension of disbelief when it comes to this manga, but to them I would say, think of it as a shounen manga, with the powerful abilities that come with the genre. In this fictional universe, Japanese teens have magical basketball powers and can do things that even the most talented NBA players are unable to. Yes it's over the top, but that's part of why it's fun to read. I find myself laughing at how immensely strong the players are while simultaneously enjoying it. It's FICTION. It's a solid shounen manga with fun battles and likable characters. It's really not supposed to be that deep.

If you're looking for a realistic sport's manga, this isn't it. I'm sure you have your preferred one out there. Go back and read that. If you're looking for a fun sports manga, this can be it (think Prince of Tennis, without the useless girls). ^^ The characters are varied with their own backstory and motivation, and they all have their own "super powers" and it's fun to see them battle it out. The characters influence each other and develop further than their original base, and as a bonus, tons of guys! The girls in the manga are not annoying, and they also have their own personality and importance. Low-key romance, not very important or significant to the story.

As a manga, Kuroko no Basuke is not terrible. It has decent artwork and interesting characters. There aren't any pacing issues, which have long plagued the sports manga genre.
As a basketball manga, however, this series is absolute dogshit. The author's amateurish, child-like understanding of the sport is as nauseating as it is unbelievable, considering that he spent 6 years of his life writing about the damn subject.
Here's an analogy: If this were a boxing manga, it would be like watching Dragonball Z characters duke it out in an insignificant, high school boxing league. "Yea I'm prolly strong enough to blow up entire planets. But this boxing tournament tho... this is what's actually important in life."
At some point you will find yourself unable to continue reading this manga, simply due to sheer absurdity of it.
Unless you know absolutely nothing about basketball (and sports/athleticism in general). In that case, you will probably have a blast and think this review is stupid.

Even the most casual of sports fans will know who Michael Jordan is. The author STARTS this manga off with 5 characters, all high school freshmen (15 years old), who are undisputedly better than Michael Jordan in his prime. When one of the most important aspects of a sports manga is growth and development, one has to wonder where the author will go from that point. Does he go to a "Buzzer Beater" route, where the characters play against the best competition that the universe can offer in an Intergalactic Basketball League? He might as well have, considering that his characters would (or should, in a moderately realistic world) obliterate any competition that Earth has to offer. What struggles could they possibly face?
But nooooooo. Instead, Fujimaki decides to base his manga around bullshit pseudoscience. Like the "zone," for example. Instead of treating "the zone" like a physiological phenomenon (as most rational, self-respecting adults would), the author transforms it into a stupid, super-saiyan-like "power up" that the characters have to actively train for.
Every player above 180 cm (~ 6 feet) in the manga can dunk like it's nobody's business. Even in the NBA, this is not true. So, Japanese high schools have better athletes than the best basketball league in the world......... cool.

I enjoyed the first twenty chapters or so. After reading another 30 (?) I can say for certain that it'd be a waste reading more.
Every character is cool and special-abilitied and I guess it's supposed to give you a sense of "omgomg, so cool" but if everyone's cool, then no one is, because that makes everyone in fact normal. It just gets obnoxious REALLY fast - it's like watching whiggers try and "be down" with their rolemodels.

This is the quote from the character "Posture has nothing to do with shots, as long its in its fine" yup sure enough you got strange posture all over, I know a lot of sport manga can be ridiculous but it usually still in acceptable realm this manga doesn't even care about any of that, just make everything ridiculous so it is cool and exciting.
Sure it was cool and exciting but it can be really funny, sometimes I just lol-ing so hard because how idiot it can be. I guess it was a good manga, they start ridiculous and end ridiculous so it was acceptable.
I think the most bad one is that the author can't draw women, most of the time they look like a man, the only thing make them look like a women is their boob, which the manager doesn't have, hence sometimes look like a man....

for some of us who do not like sports but enjoy both sport anime and manga i really enjoyed it.It doesn't matter about the zone and what not if it's real or fake , this is a manga and it's job is to get it's readers interest and for me yes there are mangas based on sports with straight by the book ways of making a character stronger but it may just be me but sometimes that alone is not enough to entertain everyone's mind. Something different is need to change the ordinary to the extraordinary.

But if you have the Zone as something rare and special you can't have all the characters use it in every single game, it destroys the purpose of it being special in the first place. Then out comes the Second Zone?! Not to mention we're talking about high school kids here. The last game was just nonstop ridiculous.

I just started this manga. And I am surprised to say I actually like it.
Ok so, I'm not really a sports fan in general, and Prince of Tennis struck me as annoyingly sweaty and unrealistic....so I didn't really think I would like Kuroko no basket.
But man I fell in love with the invisible Kuroko! He's so very different from the main characters I've known that he is a gust of fresh air. He's got brains and loyalty. What's not to love? Now that the latest chapters have been released, we know that Kuroko is INDEED the main character, the phantom who works as the shadow that binds teams together.
I love it.
BUT, the various basketball techniques are getting a bit TOO unrealistic lately.
EDIT: so, I've watched the anime, and i think the anime had a greater impact on me due to the fluid motions and the amazing voice actors! I'm now caught up to the latest chapter/episode, and I can say with confidence that the story has been amazing.
P.S. Just to get this out of the way, I finished Slam Dunk just recently, and IT WAS ACTUALLY PRETTY GOOD. I got over the weird art and etc, and laughed quite a bit.

I know it's a shounen manga, but there's a limit to suspension of belief--I just can't ignore the various super saiyan powerups anymore. EDIT: so, I've watched the anime, and i think the anime had a greater impact on me due to the fluid motions and the amazing voice actors! The ratings for it aren't bad, so I assume the later chapters are good (?)... good enough to make people stick around for the payoff maybe? But I won't be one of those people. I just couldn't get past those first couple of chapters. The whole premise is so unrealistic and retarded that I cringed in embarrassment every other page. It's such a shame, too, because the art looks great. But every reaction is so exaggerated and corny that I just can't...

But the premise needs to be believable, at least, so that I can look past the ridiculousness and enjoy the story. Why not just simply establish that Kuroko is nimble and quick on his feet, so during matches he's so fast it's almost as if he's flashing in and out of sight, and that enables him to do the things he does. Something like that, I can believe. But you expect me to buy the idea that for some inexplicable reason no one can see this kid even when he's literally standing 5 inches in front of them? And then everyone acts shocked once he raises his hand and makes his presence known? Does that make any sense? That's not a talent or an acquired skill! That's just some weird bullshit that the mangaka makes up, and doesn't explain, and then expects you to just swallow. Well, no thanks. There's only so much stupid I can handle.

Why not just simply establish that Kuroko is nimble and quick on his feet, so during matches he's so fast it's almost as if he's flashing in and out of sight, and that enables him to do the things he does.
