This manga starts out pretty good and stays that way all the way up til about chapter 50. Quite an accomplishment for any manga. At that point in time though the mangaka succumbed to storytelling fever, and wrote this immense open ended arc, that only finished up after more then 80 chapters had gone by. 80 chapters for what amounts to a single fight. I've seen other cases of this in various other shonen mangas. And in every case after reading it you think, wow, they could have cut 30 or more chapters out of this, slimmed things down, and frankly, made the thing much better. Unfortunately though the author chose to go the typical shonen route. Quite a disappointment for what is otherwise a fun story.

I have no idea where this story is going, or where its going to end up, but for myself, I think I'll just wait til it gets there, and skip to the last few chapters. I suspect I'll enjoy the story much more that way.

While it does have an interesting premise and a somewhat developed world, NnM's weakness is its characters and their relationships. Although it does attempt to put a spin on the shounen cliche, its efforts aren't enough to make it memorable or unique. While NnM as a whole has the potential to become one of the best, the large cast of characters and their slow development drags this story down.

While somewhat interesting, it lacks finesse and that certain essence which makes me truly like a manga. I like the concept and the idea but the execution leaves much to be desired. The point of a story is to make me like the characters and for me to want to invest my time and energy into learning more, however NnM is only able to bring me halfway there. It has so much potential but falls short.

so far, im at chapter 100ish, there are no power levels yet. i mean they will go on to say this persons significantly stronger than a human, or this thing ate so many whatever, but there are no power levels yet.

and when i say power levels i'm thinking dbz scouter, or yu yu hakusho's early *-s early in the mangas letter grade system, im not thinking bleach power tiers if that makes sense.

power levels are when they assign a number to you, not when you learn a bit and get stronger from it. and up to where i am, the manga still hasn't pull power out of nowhere out of its ass yet either, which in my opinion make it at least a step above most shonen.

Which isn't saying that it's bad. Neither is it actually groundbreaking, you have power levels, training, more power levels... What it has is a likable and entertaining cast of characters (its greatest asset), some memorable story arcs and a strange flavor of youkai/fantasy which somehow manage to keep this otherwise generic shonen series still strangely captivating.

Spoiler (highlight to view)
You don't see poverty-stricken mikos shooting hand cannons every day. And I started reading this because I saw a funny gif of Yuki-onna.

Brilliant shounen manga. Has humour, main character gets insanely strong, hint of love interest-an atypical shounen manga. But it's done briliantly, it's too bad not to many people read it. In my opinion it's as good if not better than bleach or naruto.

I have to admit that at frst glance and after reading the first couple of chapters I was thinking: "Oh great here is another shonen manga that probably gonna go over 250+ chapters with fighs spanning 10-5 chapters per fight" boy was I wrong. The first couple of chapters start out slow, and for a moment there because of the way the lead character was acting I thought this story was gonna go in a completely different direction and I'm glad it didn't. It's like the mangaka suddenly woke up and decided to get this show on the road. Suddenly *BAM* after the first 10 or so chapters, every new chapter has got plot development, character development or even character backgrounds and backstories. No filler chapters here ladies and gentlemen not one single chapter is wasted and thank goodness the other actually avoided what I consider the shonen manga's biggest cliche: "long ass battles. The battles here don't last long and the mangaka chooses to favor plot over mindless bloodshed and massacre (not that those aren't present in the story, don't get me wrong). I totally recommend this to anybody who enjoy's plot development and a really well thought out story + character development.

The story is great and the art is awesome but something is lacking. Maybe because his still a boy and doesn't think like that yet. But his grandfather is awesome that's all their is to it!

This manga combines two favorite things for me: yakuza and demon spirits! How awesome is that? A+++++

I love the interaction of Rikuo and his youkai underlings as the master (in training) of basically a biker gang. I also love the basic ghost stories and interaction with the real world as a halfling supernatural being, kind of in, more than kind of an outsider but trying desperately hard to fit in. Hope that focus doesn't get lost in endless shounen fights and angsting about a girl, whoever that ends up being. (The girls are super lame in this story, sigh.)

I HATE his hair in night form. That's one of the reasons i neglected to read it. why does it have to stick straight out like that?
Besides that, the plot is okay and i find the characters likeable.

evil4hunter: you said Rikou doesnt fight in his human form, but that is actually not true. Not to be rude or anything, but there is a scene where he is human and he fights really well, he is able to hold his own against a strong Youkai. I think this is a preview to his future as a Youkai/Human.
