One of the best shounen manga I've read next to samurai deeper kyo. I've been following this since 2002 and masashi kishimoto never failed to incorporate moral lessons in every challenges that the characters face on this manga.

Season 1 is AWESOME, Season 2 sucks!

Naruto was really great in season 1; Everything was really perfect in my eyes, so exciting and Naruto and the other's strong friendship is really inspiring. I really like how we meet new characters, but there's almost story we get to know about them and why they're like that today. Some of the stories really touched me, especially Gaara, Neji, Tsunade and Haku's story.
The season 2 SUCKS (sorry): Naruto begins to lose the great story. The beginning of season 2 is great, but the manga gets really shallow after Gaara's story :/ The whole Akatsuki story is so messed up, and I feel that in every chapter there's just always new, boring explanations about why this and this happened and new techniques that Kishimoto-san randomly just invent up sad
There's so many characters
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
who dies, and I feel 3/4 of the characters who died was so unecessary deaths thanks to a stupid war.
and the Sasuke saga
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
is really poor. His meaning of taking the evil path becomes meaningless since Itachi was not evil and actually loved Sasuke. Sasuke's main goal is now lost and suddenly he wants to take revenge on the whole Konoha!? It's not even a good reason, just because it was an old man's doing for making Itachi like this. I think it's really poor, sorry.

I would still recommend it, but it's not the best shounen manga since the shippuuden kind of made the serie more boring :/

Shounen - Better than most

I wish read this before I read Bleach. I would've saved a lot of my time. People can say what they want but Naruto is simply entertaining. If you wanna complain about plot issues then read Josei manga because shounen manga aren't known for very coherent story lines. Don't get me wrong, I love Naruto's narrative but I guess some people find it hard to accept because of the over the top story arcs. I honestly can't help but think of Harry Potter when I read this simply because of the rich backstory and I think:

This is better than Harry Potter.

Its funny, its emotional, its sad, its interesting and many other things. If someone doesn't like Naruto, its not that there's something wrong with Naruto but rather something is wrong with their perception of what a shounen manga is supposed to be like.

Why I hate Naruto

I started Naruto when I was still a child. I thought it was awesome. You had those children who tried to become stronger, and the wise older people who sometimes acted stupidly but if they got serious there would be no better than them(then). Think of Jiraya or Third Hokage. I watched it till the Sasuke Missing Arc and then the filler started. Stupid missions that had nothing to do with the main story. I dropped the manga till 2 years after, where I began immediately with the Shipphuden arc. I realised that NOTHING from all those 100 filler episodes was needed to understand that Arc. I followed up the anime till the fight with Pain and Naruto. If someone has seen the last episode where Naruto turns into Kyubi you would understand why.
There a friend of mine told me to begin with the manga. He said it was more original than the anime cause it was like how the Author wanted it to be. I began the manga. At the same time I also began Bleach and Fairy Tail. Continuing into the manga I reached the moment when Kabuto reveals he is becoming Orochimaru and then I realised....

"I hate this manga" or "I love this manga"

It's either "I hate this manga" or "I love this manga".
As for me, I'm on the neutral side. Personally, I find that the manga is going on for quite a while. Some people get tired of the plot while others become more excited. And some people, like me, are just reading either they feel that it is a duty, or hoping that the new chapter is going to be a blast, grabbing their attention again. I have to admit that I stopped reading the manga for quite awhile, after I started losing interest. However, I'm still anticipating the ending and might feel lonely if this manga comes to an end. I am really impressed by how the mangaka is able to link up all his plots. It must have taken years to plan. If not, then I do think that the mangaka is really impressive in relating current plot to much much earlier ones.

First off there is not only two kinds of people who either
I on the other hand am bits of both.
In all Naruto is probably not really an original concept like someone mentioned and neither is his character/attitude but if you read bakugan i'm sure you'll understand. Its that mangaka's CAN"T stray from the norm because it is too dangerous so they all have to be bumbling idiots who entice people to follow them--not that i dislike that type of character.
This manga is great, it makes you feel for the characters and the morals are beautiful. Even 567 chapters in, and i'm still reading it because of how great it IS and was.
Sure some of the characters you just want to stab (sasuke, sakura--mostly sasuke) and Naruto's powers get upped way fast but then again saying it was too fast is like asking for 100 more chapters -_- please God do not ask for that many more.
In my opinion i think that Kishimoto is indeed dragging Naruto out too long, many of the battles could have been cut out when the war arc came about and maybe some of the characters are unnecessary ... but still Naruto is one of those great mangas that AREN"T perfect. Think of it this way Bleach has its flaws, Fruits Basket has its flaws etc etc
Anyway rant fin.

Yes, its long. Yes, it drags at times. But man its worth it!! Because when its good....its REALLY good!!! This perhaps is the only long manga that I would rate at 9/10 because the messages, the characters and the story are something to learn from, both on a personal and an artistic level. Love it!

I am going to rate this piece a ten, partially because it was my first manga, and partially because I do believe the author is quite brilliantly bringing it to slow and eventual close. With most long manga, the problem doesn't come with starting or drawing on forever, but instead with ending it. And currently it looks like he is going to end it in a strong, well thought out way.

I also am thankful for naruto because this series is what brought the online manga world to full power, with it's massive hook in the start drawing in people from across the world.

What i dont like about the series is the super jumps and the way the fights turn out and the logic in them. First off i hate that naruto always pops kyuubi mode in evry fight, i know it looks "cool" but it gets old and its anoying that he beats people way beyond his skill level because of it. now at the last 100-200 chapters narutos gone from average to beyond kage lvl in just a couple of months (naruto months) first learning the Rasenshuriken that is supposed S lvl or beyond, then learning sage mode right after that, defeating Pain who has the Rinnegan = no fucking sense at all that fight was utter bullshit, dont take me wrong it looked awesome but the logic was somewhat retarded. the second naruto jumped down on the Shinra Tensie site pain cudve just used his Asura path to rocket on the toads, use the summoning pain to make the bird drop bombs on them, naruto wud have to jump away from the bombs and after the toads were occupied long enough and naruto getting all his jutsu attempts cockblocked by Preta path, deva path cudve blasted the toads away (like he did) the summoning pain cudve dealth with the geezer frogs and pain wudve just done like he did in the anime, pull naruto in, suck his chakra out. slam him to the ground with those chakra rods and knocked him out with his shinra tensie, but no ofc Pain who's defeated the entire rain country including Hanzou, killed jiraiya and 1 shotted the rokubi jinchuruki gets outsmarted by a (as earlier known) dumbass 15-16 year old and then gets once again saved by a rampaging fox. Then just a while after that naruto gets to learn how to control the kyuubi, giving him a power far beyond a Kage (his clones are enough to beat some of the strongest shinobi of all time) and who knows in the next 10 chapters maybe he will get the rinnegan, become the juubi host and be the next rikodou sennin. after that maybe he will turn out to learn a jutsu that kills any1 that he looks at.
