Description

Se-Joon and Se-Wa are siblings with a dark, complex relationship. Se-Wa, a girl considered psychotic by others, is attached to her brother a little too attached. In her eyes, there is only Se-Joon and no one else. And what of Se-Joon's feelings?

Title comes from French poet Beaudelaire's compilation of poems, Les Fleurs du mal.

Haunting and Beautiful

The author was inspired by Charles Baudelaire and his poetry... How could I NOT read this?!

I was captivated from page one--art, story, plotting, technical delivery--they all worked together like the perfectly chosen words of a poem.

And it was poetic, a very sad poem, but one that made me think! Within all that psychotic behavior, it was surprisingly tender and loving. It made me cry! Characters I thought were despicable, by story end, were completely understandable and I felt empathy for them. Characters I sympathized with at the beginning, by story end, I saw a darker side of, something that made me uncomfortable, but also comforted, since they reflected the human condition, the possessive, dark side of it.

The ending is tragic (this isn't where I cried), yes, but it affected me generally with a positive feel. The only reason I didn't give it a ten is because I felt the ending a little too tragic. Their was eucatastrophe--with the boy I'd least expect--but it wasn't enough. The light was just too quick and brief admist all that black despair!

I wonder what Baudelaire would have thought of this manhwa...

addicting and crazy

This is one of those stories where you don't root for any character. The author doesn't put a heavy bias on any character and they all have their good points and bad points. I automatically had not attachment for Sewa from her spoiled behavior in the beginning and SeJun's gloomy aura didn't exactly have me cheering for him either. Therefore, it was easy to read the manhwa without becoming to attached to a certain plot, aka, a happy ending with butterflies and rainbows. Therefore, I was completely up for any kind of ending as long as I felt it resolved the issues. And I actually thought it did. I'll try to be as vague as possible; some people hated the ending/felt it was rushed etc etc, I actually thought it was an ok ending. It doesn't have me jumping for joy but I couldn't see how a super fantastic cliche ending would pick up the slack for the rest of story, which was not at ALL super fantastic cliche. That's one of the charms of the story, anything could happen and it always intrueged me to read further.

I really do love Gihoon. It's the first time I've ever liked the second male lead more than the first, perhaps because I never liked Sejun. The only flaw I find with the ending is the ambiguity about Sejun's character. Sewa in the manhwa is always called the "psychotic" one, and yet she's the one that does what she wants freely, while Sejun goes off to be bipolar about everything. He really confused me. In the end, I was still confused with what kind of love had budded between the two, especially from Sewa's point of view. While she felt "love" for her brother, it felt more like a pained dependency. Literally, we could put this into a metaphor - a person who is addicted to a drug and can't stop even if they want to. When she got to feel what it was like to lean less on him, she actually liked what she felt. Furthermore, when she told her mom that her heart hurt because she saw Gihoon with another woman, she didn't know that feeling, which just makes the love that she felt for him much more real that all the clingyness she's shown around Sejun. That's why, I do believe that Gihoon is her first love. But then again, the charm of this story is that you can freely interpret the relationships between the people. It might be that I just simply have a more bias towards Gihoon, as I do feel he was the kindest and most forgiving (not to mention non-insane) person in the series. Overall, I'm really happy I read this manhwa, the art is amazing and the pacing is perfect.

Dark, tragic and sad but slightly over dramatic

First off, i just want to say that the art is beautiful. :3

The story, revolves around the forbidden love between a pair of twins. Except its not that simple. Afterall, there's a reason why this is categorized under psychological. Both of the twins are unstable, twisted and cause demise for those who get too far involved with them. I'm not a fan of incest, and tend to stay away from the category..but in this story, i think it works.

In this manhwa, the emotions are very raw. You can feel Sejun being tormented by his feelings, and how much he really loves Sewa right off the pages. This is probably the best thing about the manhwa and what makes it popular- how well how author conveyed realistic emotions-

Although the characters do things that appear unlikable, i found their actions to be realistic in terms of what people would react/feel like if these story of events were to happen in real life. It goes through the struggles of loving someone you can't have.

This is a dark, emotional, psychologically woven tale with some twisted characters. As you read further, the characters true personalities are developed. For example, Se-wa, initially presented as the crazy one, turns out to be much normal as she progresses. On the otherhand, Sejoon, seemingly stable at first turns out to be the truly crazy one. The story progresses well, and the deeper you read into, the darker and better it gets with some good twists. The mystery surrounding the plot/characters is what kept me reading- i was so curious to find out more about these characters full of secrets.

Unfortunately, there ONE aspect that took away from the overall essence and impact of the manhwa. The artwork and emotions were strong. But there was a lot of overdramatic devices and scenes used, in which i felt like i was watching some lame korean drama. It was like she used the basic formula of a drama and then decorated it with some psycho incest twins. If this was fixed then i would have given it at least at 8..

Anyways, this is a pretty good read if you don't mind incest. It gets you hooked and once you get into the story, you keep wanting to find out more. The art is lovely imo, and the emotions are very strong.

Great Art, Disturbingly Great Story

This Manhwa has gorgeous art, if you liked it, I'd reccomend to read "savage garden", which is just as good. When I first started reading this one I thought, "This is just totally F***ed up!!", but I couldn't stop anyway. Soooo sad. Incredible! I definitely recommend it!

Let me talk about this story while the wound is still fresh. Wow~

Art—gorgeous. What's with all these beautiful manhwas? I've yet to find a badly drawn one. Anyway, the character designs are great. Their expressions seem heart-felt and real. Argh, I can't talk about the art right now when my mind is going crazy over the story, which I just finished.

Now, for the long awaited story review. My main thought is "Wow." I have been dazzled. At first the story was somewhat light-hearted and, overall, gave the feeling of "numb". There were some cute, humorous moments and some parts that gave me the butterflies because it was so romantic—BUT. As the plot progresses, a dark, mature theme slides in. So many moments were very chilly and, indeed, gave me the shivers. It's a dark, tantalizing story, so don't be fooled by the light hearted start. Anyway, the ending and anything around the vicinity of the ending just made me go overboard. It was just so... So...—

Hehe, okay, now to the characters. I truly admire this author in some sort morbid admiration due to this story. The characters are just like the story—"Wow". The twins are truly, absolutely insane. Haha, you'll find out how and why upon reading the story. It's what makes the story just so morbidly juicy. They're utterly unpredictable and I sense some changes in personality later on. It's just crazy. Seriously, just read it.

Blah, overall, thumbs up for the originality. You cannot miss this story...

Turned out to be a good read

The not foreseeable ending made up for its flaws that shoujos commonly have. Well this one wasn't all that bad in its stories. With a certain different ending I would probably like it even more. More mature but less tragic.
Some images were very pretty too but that art was not consistent.

A must read for fans of tragic eternal love stuff. And don't worry, it's not so cheesy.

amazing drama, heartwrenching twists..and beautiful art

i was rooting for se-joon the whole time...they look so good together!! not to forget they love each other so much...the fake sung-chan was so creepy and fake. lol..it was thanks to him that se-joon broke out of his shell though, but he brought their downfall too, so i cant complain about him too much!~ sigh~ i love this manga ;A;.. (still dont like Gi Hoon though -_- haha)
beautiful art..and i do think the characters develop a lot. the only thing i would have wanted, was a mutual love between them other than one chasing after the other all the time..
but what can you expect from a taboo incest story? incest being regarded as the most taboo of relationships in general...
i guess that this great barrier (incest nature) could have made their love twisted into their obsession..

another thing is the realistic level... hm i thought that jealousy could make people go to such lengths, and so it was very realistic.. but everyone in this manhwa was driven by some twisted desire, none of the love was pure love..so that made the world seem really complicated! It has a lot of rare occurrences stuffed together too - stalkers, twins, taboo love, murder for another.. but actually, i think Se-Wa's mother and Gi Hoon's father were the only ones who had rather purer emotions 😛 but they were kinda side-characters...
the manhwa leaves me with a bittersweet taste. xP

Hm...most people are thinking that Se Wa loved GiHoon in the end...but i think thats not right .__. she loved SeJoon so strongly...AND they even had sex in the end! ;A; and she was happy, they held hands the next day to sleep too =.=;; so i truly think they love each other. I think she only sees GiHoon as her one and only friend that is fully there for her other than SeJoon..so you can interpret that Se-Wa was only in shock that her one and only "friend" sung-chan was dead/injured, and cant believe it, so she was constantly calling him in the end...it makes sense! its too painful to think that se-joon's love was totally unrequited......plus, the last name she thought of was Se-Joon~ andd, i think that was her ghost in the end XD

As a manga itself, it's not bad, nicely done and gets you hooked, certainly one of the better incest out there. Art isn't that great if you ask me, don't like shoujo style art in general.

Now for my personal opinion
This is why I don't read/like shoujo... retarded main characters, plot devices and ending. It's good because everyone gets sucked in by all the drama, but that's all to it. Take away the drama and you have lame characters who screw themselvs over. Buts that's life. Pretty much.

About the lame main male character Seh Joon...

In the beginning he's cool, acting rationally. Then he loses it with a series of idiotic actions. First of all he sucks for pushing her away then regretting it. The Seh Wah also sucks for watching him jump in front of a car and still have everything stay the same afterwards. After they finally get together, the n00b goes out and his mind breaks, confessing everything aloud. With the other guy listening. Then when he is threatened after being found out....

Then afterwards Seh Joon beats the Gi Hoon in panic because he didn't know what else to do. /facepalm. And so they run away. Another flare of stupidity, not bringing anything with them.

But I guess those character flaws is what makes the manga portray incest realistically. Still lame though.

Read this manga when you're in the mood for tragedy and slice of life, because this manga definitely falls more into the Thomas Hardy high-art category than it does romance shojo. The art is incredibly beautiful. Not only are the settings well drawn - the shadows, layering, and angles all add to the disconcerting yet heartfelt mood of the manhwa. The story is skillfully crafted. I did not find this manga gratuitous or "craving satisfying" but it is something you will really enjoy.
