I was hesitant to pick this up for a few reasons. I wasn't crazy about Tamura Yumi's art style, I thought it may be too much into the realm of sci-fi for my tastes and I wasn't sure I'd like multiple POVs. Little did I know all the things I thought I wouldn't like about it turned out completely wrong. Firstly, if you're put-off by the artwork, just hang in there. I think Yumi's art gets waaaay better as the series goes on, and I'd some a lot of the men are just downright pretty now!
Secondly, this series has a wonderful blend of action, romance, sci-fi, drama, etc. It's got something for everyone, men and women alike. Romances are usually what draw me into a series, but in this case I'm heavily invested in the plot and the labyrinth of stories that Yumi has magically weaved together. Each character, even minor ones, have some sort of growth or feel fleshed out enough to where you actually care about them (even if you don't necessarily like them). This series wonderfully explores the depth of human relationships and how people grow through experiences.
Lastly, if you pick it up and are immediately put-off by the supposed main character, Natsu, don't be! Natsu is a weak and timid girl who can't think for herself...or at least she starts off that way. Like every other character in this story Natsu grows and now I find her rather endearing. Also, in the second volume you'll find that Natsu isn't the main character at all, she's one of many. Then you'll meet Hana, a feisty tom-boy who is skillful albeit a bit rash in navigating the foreign lands. I've really enjoyed reading multiple POVs in this series and I feel it only adds to the depth and relations of the characters. There are no wasted scenes either. The author does a fantastic job of planning ahead in her story; seemingly meaningless concepts and events that happen early on almost always come back later with great significance.
This is a phenomenal story and I'm sad that it's not completely scanlated yet! There's nothing black and white in 7 Seeds, everyone has the strong points and faults. But you can't help but want them all to survive and succeed in this new world. This series has made me cry several times, but I still love it to pieces. Definitely give it a shot - there's a reason this is an award winning work!
